“Blessed are they who hear the
word of God, and keep it!”
(Luke 11:28).

“What do happy people have that un-
happy people don’t?” One might think
that this question was taken from a re-
port which shows how happy one can
be when Jesus Christ is the center of
one’s life. However, these few words
were the central question in a scientific-
psychological professional article in the
Neue Zuercher Zeitung. The answer was
missing. In the year 1998, Martin Selig-
man, as president of the American Psycho-
logical Association, officially founded a
new science, positive psychology. His argu-
ment at that time: “For years I have treated
patients who were in trouble. I thought
that if I freed them from their suffering
they would be happy. However, at the end I
had before me not a happy but an empty
patient.” The report is silent about what
happened with those patients. One can
easily imagine what did. An “empty pa-
tient” will doubtless be worse off if he does
not find the cure from the greatest of all
physicians, Jesus Christ.

Our Lord Jesus revealed His omnipo-
tence here on earth among other places in
Luke 11, where He drove out an unclean
spirit. In this connection He also spoke
about the great danger of inner emptiness:
“When the unclean spirit is gone out of a
man, he walks through dry places, seeking
rest; and finding none, he says, I will re-
turn to my house whence I came out. And
when he comes, he finds it swept and gar-
nished. Then he goes and takes to him
seven other spirits more wicked than him-
self; and they enter in, and dwell there: and
the last state of that man is worse than the
first” (Luke 11:24-26).
Many consult one psychiatrist after an-
other, invest any amount of money, and
hope for help. Some also receive it. But
only Jesus can give comprehensive and
everlasting help! How does He do that?
This we also read in Luke 11. After Jesus
had revealed His power, a woman in the
crowd, who had witnessed everything,
raised her voice and praised the mother of

Jesus as blessed. Jesus disagreed immediately and showed at the same time
where true happiness must be found and the heart’s emptiness can be
filled: “Yea rather, blessed are they who hear the word of God, and keep
it!” (Luke 11:28). This is also the key to a happy life! If God’s Word dwells
in us, if we keep it, then this will serve for our inner healing (cf. Psalm
107:20). But he who seeks true happiness and healing of his soul apart
from Jesus will always be disappointed in the end, for only He is able to fill
the emptiness in the heart of a man.
King David was also acquainted with dark, yes very dark hours! But he
knew to whom he could turn. He prayed: “My soul cleaves to the dust:
quicken me according to Thy word … My soul melts for heaviness:
strengthen Thou me according to thy word … Let Thy mercies come also
unto me, O LORD, even thy salvation, according to Thy word!” (Psalm
119: 25, 28 & 41). His prayer was granted. “I am afflicted very much;
quicken me, O LORD, according to Thy word” (verse 107). And finally, he
could rejoice: “I rejoice at Thy word, as one that finds great spoil” (verse
162).
An emptiness can arise also in the hearts of us children of God. This oc-
curs when we have grieved the Holy Spirit by sin. He that is not ready to
receive the help of Jesus by confessing his sin and asking Him to forgive
him risks danger, for Satan will do everything to fill this emptiness with
something else in order to hide it. Peter warns us in his first epistle: “Be
sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks
about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8).
“What do happy people have that unhappy people don’t?” They have Je-
sus and His Word and live in harmony with it. Are you happy in Jesus? MC

Midnight Call Ministries is a nonprofit missionary organization,

STATEMENT OF FAITH
WE BELIEVE in the divine inspiration of the whole Bible and there-
with the infallibility of the Holy Scripture, which is God’s Word, and
in the eternal Triune God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
WE BELIEVE Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was conceived of the
Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, and shed His
blood to save mankind. He died and arose bodily the third day and
later ascended into heaven.
WE BELIEVE that the Lord Jesus Christ died in the place of each
individual sinner and that all who believe in Him as their personal
Savior are justified through His shed blood and have become
children of God.
WE BELIEVE that Israel is God’s chosen people, and that the
restoration of the Jews to their own land is the fulfillment of the
Word of God.
WE BELIEVE in the pre–tribulational appearance of Jesus Christ for
the Rapture of His Church (all born again believers).
WE BELIEVE in the immortality of our souls and the resurrection of
our bodies, and in the resurrection of the just and the unjust, the
everlasting blessedness of the saved and the everlasting punishment of
the lost.

John 16:13-14 speak of the Spirit of truth. Is there a pointer

to the unity of the Spirit in these two verses?

But Bible-believing Christians know that both movements toward unity ultimately serve one person:the
Antichrist.He will one day rule over the whole world.The strong man is not yet here,but his perilous net has been
spun for many years,from a worldly as well as a religious aspect.
I
n the departing words of our Lord Jesus, we find
in John 14:18 a particularly moving statement,
when the Lord says to His disciples, “I will not
leave you comfortless: I will come to you.”
Our Lord is speaking here of three things:
1. Of His approaching death (indirectly).
2. Of His resurrection: He will return.
3. Of the sending of the Holy Spirit, through
whom He will always be there for His disciples.
It is really moving to see how the Lord is caring
for His disciples here, and wants to encourage them
by describing the great blessing of the sending of
the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, “Nevertheless I tell
you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away:
for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come
unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you”
(John 16:7). In verses 8-15, our Lord speaks further
of Him, the Holy Spirit. We are going to consider
verses 13-14 now from the aspect of Spirit produced
unity in particular, “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of
truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for
he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he
shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you
things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall re-
ceive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.” It is
clear that these words are not directly connected

with unity. They are about the particular ministry
and the working of the Holy Spirit, and this has a
lot to do with unity.
The unity from below. Today there is already a “unity,”
one that is not produced by the Spirit, however. It is
rather a unity produced by “spirits.” This so-called
unity is a double one: on the one hand it is about
the present political globalization, and on the other
it is about a religious globalization, which has been
known for many years under the name of the “Ecu-
menical Movement.” The disastrous activity of this
last-named religious globalization is well known to
us all. The political globalization is to incorporate
the worldly unity, the Ecumenical Movement, the
“Christian.” Yet both of these come from the same
bitter source: they come from below and are the
work of the great opponent of our Lord and Savior,
Jesus Christ.
Political globalization means a world-embracing
conglomeration of power, through which ever more
powerful instances are created in order to force the
world to become one. And the Ecumenical Move-
ment is nothing other than a worldwide religious
conglomeration, to represent Christians of all de-
nominations as a united platform. But Bible-believ-

Everything will be ready when he appears on the
scene.
In the book of Proverbs, we find a very interest-
ing statement concerning the conglomeration of
power. We read here of people who attempt to bind
others to themselves with the following words, “We
shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our
houses with spoil: cast in thy lot among us; let us
all have one purse” (Proverbs 1:13-14). Here is an
obvious attempt to amalgamate, which climaxes in
the statement, “Let us all have one purse.” The
Bible gives us a very clear warning, however, not to
participate in such an amalgamation, “My son, walk
not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot
from their path: for their feet run to evil, and make
haste to shed blood” (verses 15-16). These words
are doubtless a clear command to Bible-believing
Christians to stay away from the present false unity,
from the religious as well as the worldly unity. Po-
litical efforts to achieve unity do not really affect us,
but the spiritual/religious all the more. These have
been creating havoc for decades already by attempt-
ing to undermine the Church. Dear friends, we
should take a stand where these negative develop-
ments are concerned and resist this false teaching.
Biblical unity. Firstly, we must hold fast to the fact that
the Bible does not speak anywhere of peace and unity
at all costs. This is the fatal thing. Everything is being

As simple as it may
sound, the fact is that
the Church possesses all the
conditions for true unity in the
person of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
True unity is personified in Christ. Not only that,
however. It is based on the fellowship with the Son
and the Father. Think of the high priestly prayer,
where our Lord makes the tremendous statement,
“I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made
perfect in one; and that the world may know that
thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou
hast loved me” (John 17:23). Or think of the words
of Colossians 3:3, where Paul writes, “For ye are
dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.”
“Hid with Christ in God.” Are not these words
which describe the foundation of Christian unity?
It is this unity which binds and unites us. All of us
who are children of God can testify with Paul, “I am
crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I,
but Christ liveth in me” (Galatians 2:20). If Christ
personifies unity, then it is of immense significance
that He lives in us. Basically, He lives in all believ-
ers. Nonetheless, it can actually happen that Jesus
Christ stands before the door of some of His chil-
dren! In Revelation 3:20, the Lord had to say to the
Christian church at Laodicea, “Behold, I stand at
the door, and knock.” This church had defiled her-
self through sin. That is why Jesus Christ no longer
dwelt in her midst but stood before the door.
When we defile ourselves through some kind of
sin, which we have not brought to the cross and re-
ceived forgiveness for immediately, then there is no
more room for our Savior. In such a case, it is use-
less to talk about unity. See that you can rejoice

with Paul every day, “I live; yet not I, but Christ
liveth in me”!
This is true unity: Christ in me! Christ in me and
all my fellow-Christians—that is true unity. What a
spirit of power and joy can be in the Church when
God’s children see to it that Christ really fills them.
In Him the true foundation of unity is given to us
all.
This indwelling through one Savior in all believ-
ers has a tremendous effect, which is described for
us in Colossians 3:9-10, “…ye have put off the old
man with his deeds; and have put on the new man,
which is renewed in knowledge after the image of
him that created him.” Unity within the Church is
possible because everyone who comes to the
Church has put on the nature of the Lord Jesus. He
has clothed himself with Christ. Christ lives in me
and in many others too. We have all been renewed
in the image of our Savior. And the best part is that
on the basis of this unity, it will one day be possible
for the Church of Jesus Christ to be raptured as a
united Church.
Unity produced by the Spirit. “When he, the Spirit of
truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for
he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he
shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you
things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall re-
ceive of mine, and shall shew it unto you” (John
16:13-14). In this text, much is said to us, but it
speaks of Spirit produced unity in a particular way.
The indwelling of the holy Son of God in all chil-
dren of God incorporates the true unity of the
Church. What takes place in practical terms, how-
ever, when Christ dwells in me? Nothing other than
that which the Lord proclaimed about the Holy
Spirit, “He shall glorify me” (John 16:14).
Spirit produced unity is indeed the work of the
Holy Spirit in the children of God. In order that this
unity, the overflowing life of the Savior, can fully
develop in me, however, the ministry of the Holy
Spirit is necessary. He wants to glorify Christ in all

His fullness. The apostle Paul gives examples of this
in his letter to the Romans, “For the kingdom of
God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and
peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost” (Romans 14:17).
“Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and
peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope,
through the power of the Holy Ghost” (Romans
15:13). Things like righteousness, peace, joy and
hope are basically given to us in Jesus Christ, as the
apostle Peter explains, “His divine power hath
given unto us all things that pertain unto life and
godliness…” (2 Peter 1:3). Paul also proclaims the
good news to us, “He that spared not his own Son,
but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not
with him also freely give us all things?” (Romans
8:32).
How does this all come to life in us in practical
terms? Through the power of the Holy Spirit. This
is exactly what John 16:13-14 explains to us. It is
the Holy Spirit who wants to proclaim and magnify
the victory of Jesus in our daily lives. He wants the
abundant life that is in Christ to become a reality in
us. Everything that has to do with Jesus, the Holy
Spirit wants to realize in us. Our Lord summarizes
this wonderful working of the Holy Spirit with the
words, “He shall glorify me” (John 16:14).
In John 16:13, our Lord says of the Holy Spirit,
“When he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide
you into all truth.” The truth in person is Jesus
Himself (John 14:6). So when our Lord speaks of
this here, that the Holy Spirit wants to guide us into
all truth, then it is in the first place about the Savior
Himself. This statement itself testifies to a Spirit
produced unity, for the Holy Spirit guides into all
truth, which is in the first place, Christ.
Then it continues in John 16:13-14, “He shall not
speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that
shall he speak: and he will shew you things to
come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of
mine, and shall shew it unto you.” These words also
speak of the Spirit produced unity, for the Holy
Spirit proclaims only that which concerns the Lord

“…A man’s wisdom maketh his face to shine, and the boldness of his face shall be changed” (Ecclesiastes 8:1).
Jesus directly. The Holy Spirit does not proclaim
anything new; He does not bring any new doctrine.
He only speaks of that which has to do with the
Savior. Do you see the clarity of the message here?
Do you see the overwhelming witness to Spirit pro-
duced unity? It is the work of the Holy Spirit to
make everything that is given us in Christ to be-
come abundant. This again is nothing other than
the unity that is produced by the Spirit.
Unity, not one opinion. Does unity mean that there are
no more differences of opinion? No, we all know
that there are subjects which Christians may see
differently. Where Christ really is the center, how-
ever, where He has complete and unlimited access
and right of dwelling, matters of secondary impor-
tance can and will not become issues of conflict.
There, we must concentrate on the main thing:
Christ in me. This does not mean that I alone see
things from the right point of view, and the others
have to think as I do. No, but that I use all my

means to see that my neighbor, who perhaps thinks
differently in some secondary matter, sees the Lord
in me. This may result in him extending his hand to
me in a brotherly handshake, in spite of our differ-
ences of opinion. And we will both no longer see
what divides us but what unites us.
For many people, Spirit produced unity means
that their fellow Christians have to think exactly on
the same lines as them. But this is just what pro-
duces so much strife. No, Spirit produced unity is
nothing other than that Jesus Christ in me becomes
greater and greater through the power of the Holy
Spirit. The more this takes place, the more I will be
in the position to live according to 2 Corinthians
5:16, “Henceforth know we no man after the
flesh….” This means in practical terms that I no
longer judge my brother on the grounds of his
views, but in the first place on the grounds of our
mutual Lord. What peace, love and unity such an
attitude could produce among Bible-believing chil-
dren of God, and how many quarrels would not
need to start!
In the book of Ecclesiastes, we find a particular
verse, “…A man’s wisdom maketh his face to shine,
and the boldness of his face shall be changed” (Ec-
clesiastes 8:1). The NIV puts this even more clearly,
“Wisdom brightens a man’s face and changes its
hard appearance.” Here we see Christ for, according
to 1 Corinthians 1:30, Christ Jesus was made unto
us wisdom. And so, nothing less is said here than
that our Savior is able to make the face of a person
so shine that his or her face is transformed. This
means, his or her heart is filled with brotherly and
sisterly love. If Jesus Christ really can make His
dwelling in us always and in every situation, then
we will be capable of loving, regardless of unimpor-
tant differences of opinion. We all need to heed the
words of Philippians 2:3, where Paul writes, “…In
lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than
themselves.” Be honest. Is it not often the case that
our pride will not allow us to extend a hand to a
brother or sister on account of differences of opin-
ion in matters of secondary importance? As born-
again Christians, we should look for the things that
unite us and not those which divide us. Of course,

we need to be cautious. There is often a fine line
between a difference of opinion and a false doc-
trine. We should examine carefully, therefore,
whether it is about insignificant matters or a false
doctrine.
The Comforter. The Lord Jesus speaks in John’s
Gospel four times of the Holy Spirit as Comforter
(John 14:16 & 26, 15:26 and 16:7).
It really was important for the Lord Jesus not to
leave the disciples as orphans. He made arrange-
ments so that they would lack nothing after His
departure. He did not leave them to their fate. The
Comforter would remind them of Him and His
words. The Lord spoke twice in an impressive way
about this concern, “But the Comforter, which is
the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my
name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all
things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have
said unto you” (John 14:26). “But when the Com-
forter is come, whom I will send unto you from
the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which pro-
ceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me”
(John 15:26). This is understandable, for on the
day of ascension a cloud took Him up before the
eyes of the disciples, and He disappeared (Acts
1:9). Shortly after this, the disciples were exposed
to a mighty wind. It was not long before Peter and
John stood before the High Council in Jerusalem
like criminals. And this was only the beginning.
Afterwards, the disciples were often and violently
resisted. In this context, we understand what a
wonderful gift the Lord gave to His disciples.
The Lord Jesus Christ not only sent them the
Comforter, but also entrusted Him with a special
task of reminding the disciples continually of His
words. This is a source of joy and encouragement
for us. Do we not feel today more than ever a cold
wind from below, and how we are coming to our
limits? The inner trials have become enormous;
sometimes they are frightening. But we do not
need to be surprised at this. The more we proclaim
the unity in Christ, the more that will motivate the

enemy to attack us. But this is where the legacy
that the Lord left His disciples comes to our aid.
It is the desire of the Holy Spirit today to con-
tinually remind us of the Lord and His words. He
wants to lead us into all truth personally (John
16:13). This means, He wants to glorify the Lord
in us, so that we can overcome when confronted
by the enemy.
When a child of God perseveres in sin, it is un-
fortunately the case that the working of the Holy
Spirit is reduced to a minimum. This does not mean
that the Holy Spirit leaves them, for He dwells abid-
ingly in the born-again Christian. But He withdraws
when unconfessed and unforgiven sin is present.
Paul speaks of this withdrawal of the Holy Spirit in
Ephesians 4:30 and 1 Thessalonians 5:19, saying,
“Grieve not the holy Spirit of God,” and, “Quench
not the Spirit.”
Therefore, we should bring every inconsistency
to the cross immediately and completely. In this
way, the Holy Spirit can continue to do His glorious
work in us. He can remind us of Jesus, who said, for
example, “I give unto them eternal life; and they
shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck
them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them
me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck
them out of my Father’s hand” (John 10:28-29).
Eternal assurance of salvation—this means having
an anchor that holds fast for eternity. What more

healed. But are they necessarily immedi-
ately physically healed? No! The exception
proves the rule; God is sovereign, praise be
to Him! But why is a person not always
and in every case healed, though they are
redeemed? Because the flesh is not re-
deemed; because we are still living in a sin-
ful body that is susceptible to every kind of
sickness.
2. The Word itself declares it. In Matthew 8,
we find a description of how the Lord heals
a leper. Then, He healed the servant of a
Roman centurion from Capernaum. Next
follows the healing of Peter’s mother-in-
law. And then it says, “When the even was
come, they brought unto him many that
were possessed with devils: and he cast out
the spirits with his word, and healed all
that were sick: that it might be fulfilled
which was spoken by Esaias the prophet,
saying, Himself took our infirmities, and
bare our sicknesses” (Matthew 8:16-17).
Jesus fulfilled here the prophecy in Isaiah
53:4—before His crucifixion, during His
walk on earth, when He healed many of
His Jewish fellowmen, had compassion on
them, took their burden upon Himself and
healed them. He suffered with them in
their suffering; He had mercy on them and
bore their infirmities and sicknesses. This
prophecy was fulfilled in the first place in
and for Israel, and was already a foreshad-
owing of the future Messianic kingdom.
Always when the Bible says in the
New Testament that something is ful-
filled, then it is also completed and there
is no fulfillment outstanding, no main
fulfillment. Let us look at a few examples
from the Gospel of Matthew where it
says every time, “…that it might be ful-
filled”:
• in chapter 1:22-23: the virgin birth,
• in chapter 2:15,17-18 & 23: the
flight out of Egypt, the murder of the
children in Bethlehem and that He was
called a Nazarene,
• in chapter 4:14-16: the prophecies
concerning Zabulon, Nephthalim and
Galilee of the Gentiles,
• in chapter 13:14-15 & 35: the blind-
ness of the Pharisees and the speaking in
parables,
• in chapter 21:4-5: Jesus’ entry into
Jerusalem, riding on an ass,
• in chapter 27:9-10: the betrayal of
Jesus for thirty pieces of silver and the
buying of the potter’s field or field of
blood.
There is no further fulfillment of any
of these statements because they were al-
ready fulfilled. Just how exact the Bible
is, we see from the day of Pentecost.
When this took place, it does not say
that Pentecost was the fulfillment of the
prophecy of Joel, but, “This is that which
was spoken by the prophet Joel; and it
shall come to pass in the last days, saith
God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all
flesh: and your sons and your daughters
shall prophesy, and your young men
shall see visions, and your old men shall
dream dreams” (Acts 2:16-17). Why
does Peter not use the word “fulfilled”?

people, that we can and should pray for this and act in accordance with James 5:14-16. But
as with all teachings, the belief in healing should be based on the whole of Holy Scripture,
so that we do not take a wrong path.
fulfillment of Joel’s prophecy. A main ful-
fillment is still to come, and this will take
place when Jesus returns. We see this
from John 19:36-37 also, “For these
things were done, that the scripture
should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall
not be broken. And again another scrip-
ture saith, They shall look on him whom
they pierced.” Verse 36 has been fulfilled,
but verse 37 has not yet been fulfilled be-
cause this is in the future, which is the
reason for the different statements.
This treatment of the material is im-
portant,
• so that we understand the Scrip-
tures correctly and do not violate them,
• and so that we remain sober and do
not maintain something that is biblically
unable to be proven, and we are after-
wards disappointed. So many people live
a rigid Christian life because they are
told that they must be healed at all costs.
They find themselves in great distress be-
cause it does not happen. The New Testa-
ment speaks in many places of physical
suffering. Christians are not spared this;
on the contrary, we are encouraged to en-
dure suffering.
“He bare our sicknesses” means that
during His life on earth He took away the
sickness of many, but not that Jesus had
AIDS, hepatitis or cancer on the cross, as
is sometimes claimed.
What Jesus did bear on the cross. In no place
that speaks of the cross does the Bible say
that Jesus bore our sicknesses. It speaks
rather of the sins that Jesus took upon
Himself—the cause of sickness and
death. Only in Isaiah 53:5 and not in

verse 4 does the Bible speak of the cross
and what He bore on the cross, “But he
was wounded for our transgressions, he
was bruised for our iniquities: the chas-
tisement of our peace was upon him; and
with his stripes we are healed. All we like
sheep have gone astray; we have turned
every one to his own way; and the Lord
hath laid on him the iniquity of us all”
(Isaiah 53:5-6). “For he hath made him
to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that
we might be made the righteousness of
God in him” (2 Corinthians 5:21).
We human beings are deceived and
colored by a false inner attitude. We
think or react as though sickness is
worse than sin. In general, we think sick-
ness is the worst thing that can happen
to us. But there is something much worse
than any sickness, and that is sin. It is sin
which kills us, not sickness. Sin is the
cause of all sickness, the root of death
and all suffering. It is hard to suffer and
to die of sicknesses, but it is far worse to
die in sin.
Let there be no misunderstanding: we
believe also that God does miracles today
and heals people, that we can and should
pray for this and act in accordance with
James 5:14-16. But as with all teachings,
the belief in healing should be based on
the whole of Holy Scripture, so that we

tioned in the New Testa-
ment in the various lists of the
apostles. In Matthew’s list he is
called Simon the Canaanite.
Canaan is a word of Aramaic origin
and means “zealot.” This is why
Luke calls him “Simon called
Zelotes” in Luke 6:15. The Zealots
belonged to the most radical politi-
cal party of the Jews. This went
back to the rebellion of a Galilean called Judas,
“After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the
days of the taxing, and drew away much people af-
ter him; he also perished; and all, even as many as
obeyed him, were dispersed” (Acts 5:37). The his-
torian Flavius Josephus reported that he was the
founder of the Zealots. “Judas of Galilee” moved a
few Jews to rebel against Rome by maintaining
that the tax reform would make
them slaves. His bands of men were
dispersed and he himself died, but
Zealotry had only just begun. The
Zealots became an active resistance
group against the Romans, which
culminated in the so-called Jewish
war in 66 A.D. and developed into a
terrible, bloody massacre. The war
ended with the destruction of
Jerusalem and the temple in 70 A.D.
In the year 73 A.D., the surviving
Zealots committed collective suicide with their
wives and children on the mountaintop fortress of
Masada by the Dead Sea. The apostle Simon the
Canaanite came from this radical Jewish group.
Why should a Zealot want to follow Jesus Christ? The
Bible does not give us a clear answer to this ques-
tion, but Jesus had certain qualities that could im-

press a zealot. He was a pious Jew, like the Zealots.
Further, Jesus was looked upon as an outsider in
spite of His doubtless strong leadership personal-
ity. The Lord embodied great ideals. Although the
Zealots had other ideas, they could see in Him a
political ally, largely because of His ideals. Jesus
did not shrink from using strong words in public.
He once openly called Herod a fox (Luke 13:32). If
a Zealot heard that, he would certainly be im-
pressed. Also, the zeal of Jesus when He cleansed
the temple may have spoken to the Zealots.
These and other reasons may have moved Si-
mon of Canaan to respond to the call of Jesus to
discipleship. Later on, he certainly would have
seen that Jesus was other than what he had
thought, but he must have felt honored that the fa-
mous rabbi from Nazareth wanted him to accom-
pany Him.
Why did Jesus Christ call a zealot to follow Him? In gen-
eral, He called him in the first place because he
was a man who needed redemption, “In this was
manifested the love of God toward us, because
that God sent his only begotten Son into the
world, that we might live through him” (1 John
4:9). Paul also wrote of himself in 1 Timothy 1:15-

16, “This is a faithful saying,
and worthy of all acceptation,
that Christ Jesus came into the
world to save sinners; of whom
I am chief. Howbeit for this
cause I obtained mercy, that in
me first Jesus Christ might
shew forth all longsuffering, for
a pattern to them which should
hereafter believe on him to life
everlasting.” And Jesus de-
clared in Luke 15:7, “I say unto
you, that likewise joy shall be
in heaven over one sinner that
repenteth.” There is a wave of
rejoicing in heaven when a per-
son hears the call of Jesus and follows it. And there
was rejoicing in heaven when Simon of Canaan be-
came a disciple of Jesus.
Are you a child of God yet, and have you fol-
lowed the call of Jesus? Was there a wave of rejoic-
ing in heaven over you?
The Zealots were zealous. Their name, which comes
from the Greek Zelotes, tells us this. They were
zealous in their efforts to remain true to their faith
at all costs. Unfortunately, this which was good in
itself, was overshadowed because they wanted to
defend it and protect it by force. The Bible teacher
Matthew Henry wrote of the name “Simon the
Zealot,” that this surely had something to do with
this apostle’s great zeal for God’s service. The
Zealots were zealous for a good cause, but this was
drowned in their violence, intolerance and nar-
row-mindedness. Paul wrote of the Jews who did
not believe in Christ, “For I bear them record that
they have a zeal of God, but not according to
knowledge”(Romans 10:2). Simon of Canaan
must have been such a man. He was zealous for
God, but he lacked knowledge.
Jesus did not find it negative that Simon of
Canaan was a Zealot. On the contrary, Jesus saw

does not mean that such a person receives a new character. Rather, he must
be prepared to let his character be sanctified. That is
just what took place in Simon of Canaan.
the good in the Zealot Simon, and that was his
zeal! Would we have chosen a Zealot to be an
apostle if we had had to choose? Certainly not.
We would surely have said, “A Zealot, such a fa-
natical person, is not able to be an apostle.” But
what does Paul say through Jesus’ Holy Spirit?
“For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not
many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty,
not many noble, are called: but God hath chosen
the foolish things of the world to confound the
wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of
the world to confound the things which are
mighty; and base things of the world, and things
which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and
things which are not, to bring to nought things
that are” (1 Corinthians 1:26-28).
This is why Jesus called, besides poor fisher-
men or a tax collector, also a Zealot to the ranks
of His disciples. We are quick to break the rod
over other Christians because they are too
charismatic or too orthodox, or because they do
not fit into our mold for some other reason. Je-
sus Christ sees something in each one of His
children, however, that He can use. But every
person who is called to discipleship must be pre-
pared to be changed. This does not mean that
such a person receives a new character. Rather,
he must be prepared to let his character be sanc-
tified. That is just what took place in Simon of
Canaan.
After the ascension of Jesus, Simon of Canaan
was still called “Simon the Zealot” by Luke in
the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 1:13). Why? Be-
cause during the three years in which Simon of
Canaan walked with Jesus, the Lord did not de-
mand of him that he deny his origin, his
Zealotry. Rather, this Zealotry of Simon of
Canaan changed him so that he became useful to
Jesus. The Lord did not destroy his Zealotry by
force, but so changed it that it became useful to
him in his office as apostle. If only we were to
treat other Christians in this way!
This does not mean that we should cover ob-
vious misbehavior of fellow Christians with a
cloak of love, simply because they believe on Je-
sus. But we should, with the Lord’s help, at-
tempt to see the good in others. We should
further this good so that we have a platform to
uncover mistakes and to motivate our fellow
Christians to a change of course. This is what
Paul meant when he gave the church at Rome
the testimony, “And I myself also am persuaded
of you, my brethren, that ye also are full of
goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to
admonish one another” (Romans 15:14). How
did Jesus react when John forbade a man, who
did not belong to the circle of the apostles, from
driving out evil spirits in the name of Jesus?
“But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no
man which shall do a miracle in my name, that
can lightly speak of me. For he that is not
against us is on our part” (Mark 9:39-40).
Does it not encourage us that Jesus called a
Zealot to follow Him? There are Christians who
perhaps suffer on behalf of their character, their
peculiarities. Perhaps you have been told, “It is
impossible to get along with you!” But Jesus
can! Let Him work on your character, your ec-
centricity. Perhaps people judged Simon the
Zealot, “Nothing will ever become of him. He
has strange ideas in his head from some rebel!”
But Simon the Zealot became one of the twelve
apostles of the Lord.
Jesus Christ has many servants who are al-
ready active for Him. But He needs someone spe-
cial, and that means you! You have something in
you that the Lord has seen and wants to use.
Will you not give yourself to Him completely?
Do it unconditionally and then you will see,
“The Lord needs me!” (MR1209/368)

Part I:
The Myth of
“Global Warming”

“The Evangelical Climate Initiative is a group of senior evangelical leaders in the

United States who are convinced it is time for our country to help solve the problem
of global warming.”1 The Initiative seeks to accomplish their stated goal by creating
jobs, cleaning the environment, and enhancing national security by reducing depen-
dence upon foreign oil. The Initiative’s goal is to help create a safe and healthy envi-
ronment for future generations. The first of four “urgent claims” by the Evangelical
Climate Initiative is the assertion that “human-induced climate change is real.”

he problem with the Initiative is that global
warming is a myth. Global warming is noth-
ing more than a political agenda that has infil-
trated evangelicalism. The church, therefore,
should be concerned with regard to the global luke-
warming of churchianity. Jesus warned the church,
“I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor
hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. So because
you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will
spit you out of My mouth” (Rev 3:15-16). The con-
cern of this writer is that those who are involved in
the Evangelical Climate Initiative are becoming
“cold” to proclaiming the Gospel and are seeking to
make “disciples” by proclaiming temporal, plane-
tary issues to be more important—which are actu-
ally fabrications—than eternal issues such as the
destiny of the souls of human beings. The majority
of environmental policies are based upon myths.
Only four of the most common will be addressed in
this article.
The First Myth of Global Warming
The first myth is that scientists agree that the
Earth is warming. Ground-level temperature mea-
surements seem to indicate that the Earth has
warmed between 0.3 and 0.6 degrees Celsius
since 1850. Global satellite data, however, is the
most reliable of climate measurements, and it has
not demonstrated any evidence of warming since
1979. Moreover, even if the Earth’s temperature
increased slightly, such an increase is within the
natural range of known temperature variation for
the past thousand years. Actually, the earth expe-
rienced greater warming between the 10th and
15th centuries (viz. “the medieval warm period”);
this period was a time of unusually warm weather

that began approximately AD 1000 and continued
until a cold period known as the “Little Ice Age”
appeared in the 14th and 15th centuries. A
warmer climate resulted in a remarkable increase
of prosperity, knowledge, and art to Europe. Agri-
culture thrived as the temperature increased.
Marshes and swamps were dry, which eliminated
the breeding of mosquitoes that spread malaria.
Former wetlands were converted to productive
farmland. Infant mortality decreased, and the
population increased. From the 12th to the 14th
centuries, the population of Europe increased
from approximately 40 to 60 million. Between the
10th and 15th centuries, vineyards thrived in
England, and Vikings from Iceland colonized
Greenland and built settlements in Canada. The
Greenland settlements reached a height of pros-
perity in the 12th and 13th centuries, when 3,000
colonists occupied 280 farms. The settlements ex-
perienced difficulty in the late 14th century as a
consequence of the beginning of “Little Ice Age”
cooling; they finally perished in the 15th century.
The warming that humanity is experiencing today
is simply the result of emergence from the “Little
Ice Age” (which was close to the time of the
founding of our nation).
The existence of the medieval warm period was
recognized in the climate textbooks for decades. It
is, however, a major embarrassment to those main-
taining that 20th and 21st century warming is in-
deed abnormal. In 1998, Michael Mann (an
American physicist and climatologist, who is cur-
rently director of the Earth System Science Center
at Pennsylvania State University) “reworked” the
temperature data (what is called “the Hockey Stick”
in scientific circles due to its shape), and contra-
dicted the immense majority of historical sources
with regard to the medieval warm period. The Clin-
ton administration, which was probably signifi-
cantly influenced by Vice President Gore, used
Mann’s modified graph for the United States climate
assessment report in 2000. Mann was named as a
lead author of the next Intergovernmental Panel on
Climate Change (IPCC) report published in 2001
and an editor of The Journal of Climate. However,
two Canadian statisticians—Stephen McIntyre and
Ross McKitrick—were persistent in their demands
to examine the data Mann used. Eventually and
quite reluctantly, it was provided. They discovered
and subsequently published a remarkable critique
that faulted the Hockey Stick analysis for collation
errors, unjustifiable truncation or extrapolation of
source data, obsolete data, geographical location er-
rors, and incorrect calculation of principle compo-
nents.
The irony of global warming scare tactics is that a
slightly warmer climate with an increase in carbon
dioxide is in several manners beneficial to the earth,
as opposed to being damaging. Economic studies
have demonstrated that moderate warming and
higher carbon dioxide levels will increase the total
value of all final goods and services (GNP), and will
increase standards of living, primarily by improving
agriculture and forestry. Obviously, Al Gore’s An In-
convenient Truth did not indicate any of these ad-
vantages. Homes in the north could have heating
fuel savings. Farmers in Canada could harvest
bumper crops. Greenland could become richly sup-
plied in cod and oil riches. Shippers could rely
upon an Arctic shortcut between the Atlantic and
the Pacific. Forests could expand. Mongolia could
become a powerful nation economically.
Please note that the word “could” has been em-
ployed toward possible benefits, which means this
author is expressing possibilities; however, the
point is that there may be future benefits for frigid
regions of Canada and Russia (i.e., not that chal-
lenges in those countries will be eradicated, but the
gains, especially in agriculture, could be greater
than the losses). Economics professor Robert O.
Mendelsohn of the Yale School of Forestry and En-
vironmental Studies, studied how various warming
scenarios from now until 2100 could affect the
gross domestic product. The conclusion of his re-

adapted and will continue to do so.
The Second Myth of Global
Warming
The second myth is that humanity is the cause for
global warming. The evidence for such an asser-
tion is minuscule. Scientists do not agree that hu-
manity has exerted any discernible influence upon
global climate. Those scientific experts who are
most directly concerned with climate conditions
reject the assertion that humanity is the cause for
global warming by a wide margin. According to a
Gallup Poll, only 17% of the members of the Mete-
orological Society and American Geophysical Soci-
ety believe that current global warming is the
result of greenhouse gas emissions (i.e. carbon
dioxide, primarily from burning fossil fuels): 83%
disagree. It is true that carbon dioxide in the at-
mosphere has increased by 28% in the past 160 or
so years, but the amount of carbon dioxide gener-
ated by humanity is minuscule to any global
warming because the majority of the warming oc-
curred prior to 1940, prior to carbon dioxide emis-
sions from human beings.
“Greenhouse theory” is a lying metaphor.
Global warming theory assumes the Earth is natu-
rally in a state of “global energy balance” (i.e. ab-
sorbed sunlight = emitted infrared). In an attempt

to seize public approval, buzzwords or
catchy metaphors are used. Such is
the reality with metaphors, such as
“greenhouse gasses” and the
“greenhouse effect.” Argument by
metaphor is always dangerous and
misleading. The “greenhouse”
metaphor is used to promote the
idea that putting more carbon
dioxide into the atmosphere will
make the earth more like a green-
house, and consequently, this will
increase global temperature. (Per-
haps it would be beneficial to state
at this moment that “temperature” is a statis-
tic, not an actual measurement. Actually, the major
historical unknown is how to define what is “nor-
mal.” In other words, what is a global average tem-
perature? What are the normal [pre-industrial age]
variations? It is impossible to specify any human
caused effect upon the global temperature unless
these questions can be answered. Therefore, the
psychology behind global warming is to sell bad
news [and also generates much funding; always
follow the money].)

ence of carbon dioxide is not what makes a green-

Secondly, greenhouses do not function like the
atmosphere. There are other aspects involved,
such as fluid dynamics and infrared radiation. A
greenhouse controls fluid dynamical energy drain
from the surface by placing something like glass or
plastic above the plants, which allows inbound so-

glass or plastic, but air cannot. If
the flow balance between dy-
namical energy and infrared ra-
diation is halted, then the
greenhouse is heated. Green-
houses are not warm because
they trap infrared radiation, but
that is the issue that global
warming advocates want the
public to believe. It is simply im-
possible to halt the release of en-
ergy from the earth through fluid dynamics.
Greenhouses are controlled to produce certain
heating, but the planet is not. The Earth cannot
and never will be a greenhouse because it is im-
possible to control fluid dynamical flow. To assert
otherwise is not science, but religious faith.
The Third Myth of Global Warming
The third myth is that government must intervene
to stop global warming. The idea behind this myth
is that the consequences of inaction will be cata-
strophic; therefore, prudence demands immediate
government action. There is no scientific consen-
sus that global warming is a problem or that hu-
mans are its cause. Even if current predication of
warming is correct, delaying drastic government
actions by even 25 years will make little difference
in global temperature 100 years from now. Pro-
posed treaty restrictions would do little environ-
mental good and tremendous economic harm.
Conversely, delaying action until there is more ev-
idence of human-caused global warming, and bet-
ter technology to mitigate it, is both a positive
environmental and economical response.
Government attempts to control so-called
greenhouse gas emissions are vacuous and unnec-
essary. Nevertheless, there are state governors de-
manding carbon dioxide emissions limits on
automobiles; there are major cities demanding
mandatory carbon dioxide controls; the Supreme
Court recently declared that car-
bon dioxide is a pollutant that
may need to be regulated; with
the exception of the United
States and a few small countries,
every industrialized nation has
signed the Kyoto Protocol; and,
there are persistent international
demands for even more rigorous
regulations when the Kyoto Pro-
tocol expires.
It seems, though, that some
global warming advocates are not so serious with
regard to anti-warming policies. For example, one
feature of the Kyoto Protocol is called the Clean
Development Mechanism. As defined in Article 12
of the Protocol, this mechanism “allows a country
with an emission-reduction or emission-limitation
commitment under the Kyoto Protocol to imple-
ment an emission-reduction project in developing
countries.” What this means is that a carbon diox-
ide emitter (i.e. an energy user) is allowed to sup-
port an unconvincing reduction scheme in
developing nations in exchange for the right to
continue emitting carbon dioxide. For those coun-
tries that have ratified the Kyoto Protocol, the
Emissions Trading mechanism allows for them to
sell excess capacity to countries that have ex-
ceeded their targets. In many situations, the initial
quota was simply given by governments to power
companies and other entities, which then col-
lected a windfall profit from consumers. It should
be obvious that these policies result in tremendous
finances for those involved. However, these
schemes (even in theory) are simply fraudulent
because they do not reduce total carbon dioxide
emissions.
It is also noteworthy that there are direct bene-
fits to tens of thousands of interested people to
perpetuate all the global warming scare tactics;
this, of course, is at the expense of the ordinary
consumer. Global environmental organizations,

such as the Environmental Defense Fund, Green-
peace, and the Sierra Club have profited billions of
dollars. There are multi-billion dollar government
subsidies, which are continually getting larger, for
ineffective and ineffectual mitigation schemes.
Emission trading programs will soon generate prof-
its of $100 billion yearly, with sizeable fees paid to
brokers and those who regulate these programs.
Certainly you, the reader, are intelligent enough to
understand that there are many individuals who are
benefiting from climate scare tactics and who obvi-
ously have an ensconced interest. The reverse is
also true, though. There are many sincere individu-
als who believe that a global warming catastrophe is
imminent, and whose fears are encouraged by the
increasing volume of biased and prejudiced books,
movies, and media coverage.
The Fourth Myth of Global Warming
The fourth myth is that global warming caused by
humanity will culminate in cataclysmic environ-
mental problems (e.g. higher ocean levels and in-
creased hurricane activity). Although sea levels are
increasing globally, it is not uniform. Sea levels have
increased more than 300 feet over the past thousand
years, which is a natural phenomenon in between
ice ages. Contrary to global warming predictions,
the current rate of increase is slower than the aver-
age rate for the past thousand years.
It is common knowledge that tropical storms are
dependent upon warm ocean surface temperatures
(a minimum of 26 degrees Celsius) and an unlim-
ited supply of moisture. The reasoning is that global
warming is the cause of increased ocean surface
temperatures, and consequently an increased up-
take of moisture and therefore destructive hurri-
canes. With regard to a supposed increase in
hurricane activity, the scientific data does not indi-
cate any increase in the number or severity of tropi-
cal storms. It is important to recognize that other
factors such as wind speeds at various altitudes are
also conducive to hurricane activity. There are vari-
ations other than warming.

Are there other effects of warming? If a mini-
mal atmospheric warming occurred, the effect
would be primarily upon nighttime temperatures,
which would lessen the number of winter nights
and extend the growing season. Actually, as al-
ready stated, scientists believe that global warm-
ing would be beneficial to agriculture, because
historically warm periods have been most con-
ducive to life. The fears of a global warming
apocalypse are invalid. Therefore, hasty and igno-
rant legislation must be recognized as a political
agenda. However, also consider the logical con-
tradiction among global warming advocates. We
are told that human beings are no different than
any other life form, and therefore we certainly are
not superior. Conversely, we are told that human-
ity is superior and capable because we can study
and predict climate change, and can halt the end
of the world.
Conclusion
The evidence of science and history is not in fa-
vor of global warming. The more that individuals
understand the information presented in this arti-
cle and communicate the actual facts to others,
the myths of global warming will subside. The re-
sponse of the church must not be apprehension;
rather, it would be good to sing the children’s
song, “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands,”
because this truth is communicated throughout
Scripture, especially in Isaiah 40. “Who has mea-
sured the waters in the hollow of His hand, and
marked off the heavens by the span, and calcu-
lated the dust of the earth by the measure, and
weighed the mountains in a balance and the hills
in a pair of scales?” The answer is no human be-
ing. God, however, does these things! (454)

NORBERT LIETH is a graduate of Midnight Call
Bible School in Montevideo/Uruguay. He has

World Conspiracy
in Light of the Bible

Due to substantial interest in the subject, we continue our study of the

conspiracy series with Part 4. What does the Bible say about world
conspiracy theories? Do they belong to the prophetic Word?

I
n 1 John 4:1 it says, “Beloved, believe not every
spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of
God: because many false prophets are gone out
into the world.” This also applies to everything that
is presented to us in the realm of conspiracy theo-
ries.
As a teenager, I found myself in the world of con-
spiracy theories. I was confronted with it for the
first time when somebody gave me a pamphlet
called “Deception in a religious cloak—Neo-
Nazism as a continuation of alleged Christian reve-
lation” by a man named Friedrich T. Külling. In this
pamphlet, the so-called “books of revelation” of Des
Griffin and Wolfgang Borowsky were analyzed in
detail. Friedrich Külling shows clearly the Christ-
ian-cloaked National-socialist train of thought that
is passed on in these “books of revelation.”
Amongst other things, the Holocaust is subtly ques-
tioned, and the Jews looked upon as the root of all
evil. Strangely enough, the USA always comes off
badly and Europe well. Unfortunately, the books of
Des Griffin are also given as references in a Christ-
ian book of revelation.
The ultimate awakening came when I began to
concern myself with the origins of the hatred for
the Jews and anti-Semitism.1 In the meantime, it has
been proven through a variety of literature and re-
search that Hitler was convinced of the Freemason
world conspiracy, behind which Judaism was said
to stand. All these esoteric theories are based on the
so-called “Protocols of the Elders of Zion,” which
was found to be a forgery by the Czarist secret po-
lice and blamed on the Jews. In it, Jewish universal
Freemasonry is accused of aiming at world domin-
ion, blowing great cities up to serve their own pur-
poses, and destroying Western civilization. Perhaps

at Yale University, was published by the dubious Kopp
publishing house in Germany. This secret student
society is alleged to be aiming at world dominion.
Skull and Bones in 1947, with George H. W. Bush just left of clock

it is dawning on you now how a person can arrive
at an alleged conspiracy behind 9/11. These fake
protocols had to serve as evidence to justify the
pogroms and assaults upon the Jews. Hitler and
Himmler were possessed by the idea of the Freema-
sonry/Jewish world conspiracy, and therefore they
persecuted the Freemasons and much more the
Jews, who were allegedly behind them.
Up to the present time, many of the so-called rev-
elation books come from the right-wing extremist
corner. As an example we have the writings of Udo
Holey, who published his revelation books under
the pseudonym of Jan van Helsing. From this eso-
teric, anti-Semitic author comes, for instance, the
claim that Helmut Kohl, former Chancellor of Ger-
many, was in reality a Jew, and his name was there-
fore changed from Kohn (Cohen) to Kohl.2 I have
to admit, to my shame, that I accepted and believed
this claim from a brother in the faith, who was al-
legedly an expert in the field of Freemasonry. At
that time, I did not know of the occultic, right-wing
extremist background of such theses. From the
same source comes the claim that the Jews use the
Holocaust as a weapon against Germany. Similarly,
it spread the absurd idea that the AIDs virus was
produced on the orders of the Jewish Illuminati in
an American laboratory.3
The books by Holey, alias Jan van Helsing are for-
bidden in Germany, by the way. His theses, how-
ever, are being spread by other authors. The books
of Des Griffin were also published by a company
which was under observation by the organization
for the protection of the federal constitution in Ger-
many, on account of its neo-Nazi tendencies.
A Christian person who considers himself an ex-
pert in matters of universal Freemasonry said to me
that the present day state of Israel is basically a
Freemason structure. This is deeply shocking when
we know of the Nazi sources of such theses. Such a
statement borders on blasphemy. Of course, we do
not have the saved state of Israel before us. Israeli
politicians, such as Yitzhak Rabin, for instance, can
be Freemasons. But the restoration of the state of Is-
rael and the return of the Jews, which has already
begun, is the work of God and the fulfillment of
biblical prophecy. This has nothing to do with the
alleged world dominion of the Freemasons.
It was the same person who looks upon universal
Freemasonry as paving the way for the Antichrist.
In answer to my question, what he would do with
this thesis if the Antichrist appeared on the scene as
opponent and persecutor of the alleged world con-
spiracy, just as Hitler once did, he had no answer.
Among other things, the book on Skull and

world dominion. The fact that George Bush, only a
few years after the publication of the book, went
down in history as one of the most unpopular pres-
idents in history and brought his party a historic
defeat, does not seem to bother anyone—particu-
larly because Barack Obama was not a Yale student.
But in spite of this, the conspiracy theories con-
tinue to thrive.
Far too seldom is the question asked, where all
these conspiracy theories are concerned, from what
source does this information come? What people
supply this information? In the German Christian
magazine Factum (7/2010) a man named Thomas
Lachenmaier makes it clear that the conspiracy the-
ories that now abound about the earthquake in
Haiti and the associated secret weapons of the USA,

the time of the German Democratic Republic. It is
sometimes shocking how, especially among Chris-
tians, such things are accepted only because they
appear to fit their own system, without their look-
ing into the source of this information. Although
they are against Islam, it does not even matter that
such conspiracy theories are available in books and
theses in abundance in Islamic lands.
Another example of this is: years ago I read in the
German news magazine Focus an interview with
one of the main ideologists who represent the Illu-
minati conspiracy. In the background of the picture
taken in his office, there was a Buddha statue and
the esoteric signs of Yin and Yang. Therefore, my
question is addressed not only to the right-leaning
spectrum: what kind of people are these who supply
us with such apparently spectacular and valuable
information?
It is by far not about portraying the Freemasons,

I would like at this point to quote a text from Isa-
iah 8:9-13, “Associate yourselves, O ye people, and
ye shall be broken in pieces; and give ear, all ye of
far countries: gird yourselves, and ye shall be bro-
ken in pieces; gird yourselves, and ye shall be bro-
ken in pieces. Take counsel together, and it shall
come to nought; speak the word, and it shall not
stand: for God is with us. For the Lord spake thus
to me with a strong hand, and instructed me that
I should not walk in the way of this people, saying,
Say ye not, A confederacy, to all them to whom this
people shall say, A confederacy; neither fear ye their
fear, nor be afraid. Sanctify the Lord of hosts him-
self; and let him be your fear, and let him be your
dread.”
These words were directed at Ahaz, the King of
Judah. He trembled before the approaching ten-
tribe kingdom of Israel and the Assyrians. The peo-
ple sensed a conspiracy behind the threatening
enemy powers. Through this, they were deaf to the
speaking and the connected judgment of God. Do
we not find ourselves in the same danger today? In-
stead of humbling ourselves under the speaking and
thereby connected judgment of God, in view of the
events and developments, some kind of evil con-
spiracies are held responsible. Therefore, the alter-
native to the conspiracy theories in Isaiah 8 is the
fear of God. Why? In this chapter, it is clear that the
Lord Himself is carrying out His plans and not some
kind of conspiracy. For this reason, all these con-
spiracy theories are so dangerous. They pull the
Christian in the wrong direction. For them, it is no
longer God who is active and carrying out His in-
tentions in spite of all human conspiracy theories,
but suddenly universal Freemasonry or someone
else has the reins in his hand. We should fear the
Lord. Everything else is unbelief. Verses 19-20 of the
above-quoted text are interesting: “And when they
shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have famil-
iar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mut-
ter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the
living to the dead? To the law and to the testimony:
if they speak not according to this word, it is because
there is no light in them.” Here it is clear how
closely connected the false conspiracy fear was with
occultic sources and practices in Judah.

Beijing’s communists are among the world’s most successful capitalists, but their economic ascent is of-
ten overshadowed by its human rights violations.The Communist Party now faces a crucial test: Can it
become more democratic without jeopardizing its hold on power?

China needs heroes, shining role models,
people who can bring positive
change to society through their actions. This was
true at the time of Confucius, but it has been partic-
ularly true since China has had a communist party.
And because the Chinese Communist Party chan-
nels, organizes and monitors everything, it didn’t
take long after its victory in the 1949 revolution to
establish a “Foundation for Altruism and Courage”
that selects China’s heroes. Its various decisions
over the past decades reveal a surprising and even
sensational development.
Today’s official role models show how thor-
oughly the party has adjusted to conform to a glob-
alized era. Enter Duan Wenyin, 27. He is the man
the communist authorities are currently touting as
their latest hero of the revolution.
Mr. Duan runs his hand over his impeccably tai-
lored suit. His hair is perfectly gelled. He speaks
smoothly and chooses his words carefully. An elo-
quent, practiced sense of modesty is part of his
persona. “No, I don’t want to be a hero,” says
Duan, a graduate of an elite university, in the village
of Beigou 60 kilometers (38 miles) east of Beijing,
“but a patriot.”

local party headquarters building. Duan looks up at
the wall, where a slogan reads: “Li dang wei gong”
or “Commitment of the Party to the Community.”
A Dinosaur Which Has Learned to Adapt
The membership of the Chinese Communist Party
is almost as large as Germany’s population. Its 78
million members make it the largest political party
in the world, and a very successful one at that—a
terribly successful party, say
many anxious Western ob-
servers. Soviet communism
ended up in the dustbin of his-
tory. The parties in North Korea
and Cuba led their people to
economic downfall and are
considered discredited. Com-
munist parties stood—and con-
tinue to stand—for an incurable
sclerosis, while their leaders are viewed as di-
nosaurs. The outcome of the socialist idea has
served as ample proof that it cannot work in prac-
tice.
In China, this quasi law of nature seems to
have been suspended. The dinosaur has learned
to evolve, and adaptation instead of agony
shapes the picture, as Beijing rushes from one
economic success to the next. In the last 30
years, China has increased its gross domestic
product by about thirty times and has overtaken
Germany and Japan as an economic power, and
it will likely leave the United States behind by
2020, becoming the world’s largest economy. No
other country has amassed such large foreign
currency reserves as the People’s Republic. If it
wanted to, Beijing could buy up all the companies
listed on Germany’s DAX index with only one-
third of its $3 trillion (€2.1 trillion) in reserves.
According to US diplomats whose secret ca-
bles from Beijing were published by WikiLeaks,
the expanded Politburo, consisting of 24 men and
one woman, is characterized by a “consensus
system in which members can exercise veto
power.” In fact, the cable continues, “true democ-
racy” prevails in the Politburo.

from the European Union, one senses that they
are on the right path to creating the world’s first
truly peaceful society. Although diverse from
one another due to language, culture, tradition,
customs and holidays, they are living together
in peace, enjoying great prosperity.
From the Bible we know that when the
Prince of Peace comes, the Messiah of Israel,
He will establish a real and lasting peace on
planet earth. Thus, it stands to reason that the
enemy, the great imitator must be successful in
creating a near perfect society where all the
people in the world, not just Europe, will
praise, adore, even worship the dragon and the
beast according to Revelation 13:3-4, “And
I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to
death; and his deadly wound was healed:
and all the world wondered after the beast.
And they worshipped the dragon, which
gave power unto the beast: and they wor-
shipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto
the beast? who is able to make war with

At the pinnacle of success, God’s
judgment will break forth, resulting in
the most horrendous catastrophe the
world has ever known. Revelation 18:23
speaks of that end: “And the light of a
candle shall shine no more at all in thee;
and the voice of the bridegroom and of
the bride shall be heard no more at all in
thee: for thy merchants were the great
men of the earth; for by thy sorceries
were all nations deceived.” It does not
speak of war or weapons of war, but at
the end something very abnormal hap-
pens: the voice of the Bridegroom and
the voice of the Bride are silenced. The
merchants and the great men of the
earth—the rich, the famous, the leaders,
the intellectuals—all were deceived.
That spells the end of the world as we

of a biometric database contain-
ing information on the citizens
of Israel, finally got around to
voting on the first practical step
towards setting up the database.

Biometric identification recognizes indi-

fingerprints, face recognition, DNA, palm geom-
etry, or iris recognition, all of which are unique
to each individual. It is considered by many to
be nearly foolproof because it does not depend
on an identity card that can be forged.
The creation of a national biometric database
was first proposed by Meir Sheetrit (Kadima)
when he was Interior Minister in Ehud Olmert’s
government in the years 2007 to 2009. Despite
a tremendous public debate, in which oppo-
nents expressed concerns about the use of a
biometric database as an invasion of privacy,
the Knesset passed a law approving the cre-
ation of such a database in December 2009 by
a vote of 40-11.
The special Knesset subcommittee was es-
tablished to study and approve details related
to implementing the new law. Among the sub-
jects it looked into were the timetable for setting
up the database, and methods to secure the
data.
Only two Knesset Members bothered to
show up for the subcommittee’s vote approving
the pilot program. Sheetrit, the chairman, and

the pilot. MK Zeev Eikin (Likud) attended the
initial part of the meeting, but left before the
vote. Three other committee members, Zion
Fanian (Likud), Uri Orbach (Habayit Hayehudi)
and Hamad Amar (Yisrael Beiteinu) did not at-
tend the session. No quorum was required for
the vote, and it was held despite the fact that
most of the subcommittee was not present.
Avner Pinchuk, legal counsel for the Associa-
tion for Civil Rights in Israel, stated in an ap-
pearance before the subcommittee that the
proposed Israeli database is unprecedented in
scope, and that there are “no mandatory biomet-
ric databases in any democratic country.”
Sabine Hadad, a spokeswoman for the Interior
Ministry’s Population, Immigration and Border
Authority, tells The Report, however, that ac-
cording to research conducted by the Interior
Ministry, several countries have established or
are in the process of establishing biometric
databases similar in scope to the one planned
for Israel, including Mexico, Switzerland, Fin-
land, and India, which has the largest such data-
base in the world. In addition, Israel is the only
country within the Organization for Economic
Cooperation and Development (OECD) yet to is-
sue a biometric passport.

seem to be indifferent to the issue since only

We must add here that this is not the
dreaded Mark of the Beast, but is cer-
tainly a stepping stone in that direction.
Many of us remember that just a few
decades ago, the passport was the ulti-
mate authority to document your iden-
tity. Today, this takes second place. The
officer may confirm your identity with
your passport, but the final authority is
the computer scanner; it is the deciding
factor of whether or not you enter any
country. The Mark of the Beast will be
applied to the person, “And he causeth
all, both small and great, rich and poor,
free and bond, to receive a mark in their
right hand, or in their foreheads” (Reve-
lation 13:16). 4135

whether they are creditworthy or
not. Now Portugal is under pres-
sure after Moody’s downgraded
its debt to junk status. European
politicians want to create an al-
ternative, even though they
helped give so much power to
the agencies in the first place.

Strange
as it may seem, there are still
credit rating agencies that give cash-
strapped Greece top marks. The experts at Ger-
many’s Euler Hermes Rating currently give the
Mediterranean country their top AA rating, citing its
“very strong business environment.”
And there is little doubt that Euler Hermes can be
trusted. It is the first rating agency that officially
meets the tougher European regulations for the in-
dustry that were introduced at the end of 2010.
There is only one problem: Their good rating for
Greece is not related to the creditworthiness of the
state, but to that of Greek companies. When it
comes to rating sovereign bonds, that is still done al-
most exclusively by the three major US-based rating
agencies—Standard & Poor’s, Moody’s and Fitch—
who are collectively known as the Big Three.
That is something that European politicians
have long wanted to change, and there have
been repeated calls to set up an independent Eu-
ropean rating agency. Now the European Union is
working on its proposal for what such an agency
could look like.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel commented:
“Regarding the issue of rating agencies, I think it is im-
portant that we do not allow others to take away our
own ability to make judgments.”
The members of the European Parliament who
are pushing for a European agency don’t just want a
fourth ratings giant in addition to the Big Three. In-
stead, they want to establish a Europe-wide network
of credit rating agencies. In order to ensure sufficient
demand for their services, the EU could stipulate
that structured financial instruments need to have
ratings from two agencies, rather than just one.
FDP (Free Democrats) politician Wolf Klinz be-
lieves that rating agencies are only actually neces-
sary for assessing financial products. “When it
comes to national debt, we don’t need the agen-
cies,” he says. After all, he argues, all the important
data on a country’s debt is publicly available from
sources such as the OECD, the International Mon-
etary Fund or the respective central bank. Large
investors can therefore easily assess the country’s
financial health by themselves, he argues.

Although there is much political will abroad to in-
validate or weaken America’s credit rating agen-
cies, the US still dominates. That fact is obviously
helpful for the United States, carrying notable
weight when it comes to protecting American na-
tional interests. Doubtless, however, in the long
run, this will change. Europe represents the
world’s largest economy and the most diverse
one, and must be expected to establish a counter-
weight.
What does it mean prophetically? Europe is
Rome, and Rome is documented to be the final
Gentile superpower structure on earth, only to be
displaced by Israel, according to Daniel 2:44:
“And in the days of these kings shall the God of
heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be
destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to
other people, but it shall break in pieces and con-
sume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for

been a practice rooted in the
Hindu faith. Today, it is a mas-
sively popular fitness tradition in
the United States, part of a well-
ness lifestyle for some 15 million


Americans.
And some Hindus are not happy with
the way yoga is treated in the US. The
Hindu American Foundation claims the tra-
dition has strayed too far from its Hindu
roots and has launched a campaign
called ‘Take Back Yoga.’ In Tell
Me More’s weekly “Faith Mat-
ters” conversation, guest host
Farai Chideya puts the question, “who
owns yoga?” to Sheetal Shah of the
Hindu American Foundation.
Ms. Shah: “The emphasis of this campaign re-
ally began a couple years ago when we noticed in
countless yoga magazines, and specifically Yoga
Journal, the lack of reference to Hindu or Hin-
duism, but it was full of references to other faiths,
particularly Buddhism, and even mystical Chris-
tianity for example.
“I think part of the issue that goes back is the
way that Hinduism has really been defined. For
most Hindus it’s more of a way of life and yoga is
something that’s kind of been incorporated into our
lives day in and day out. But that being said, Hin-
duism is a very pluralistic faith and it’s very accept-
ing and very universal.
“And interestingly enough, I actually just read
an old article by a Professor Stephen Prothero and
he was referring to the Vedanta Society. And at the
very end he quoted one of the swamis and essen-
tially the swamis said that whether you are a Chris-
tian, a Buddhist, a Muslim, if you are truly
searching for the inner divine within you, you are a
Hindu. Because the idea within Hinduism is that
the whole world is one family and that the divine
resides within each of us and that’s essentially the
idea of yoga as well.

day. And I think those of us who are advocating for
this Take Back Yoga program we are as comfort-
able calling ourselves Indian as we are American,

The words, “you are a Hindu” are rather strik-
ing because yoga does not require the
practitioner to change his religion.
You can continue being a Christian
(Churchianity), Buddhist or Mus-
lim, even an atheist. However,
the bodily exercise requires
you to subject your
soul to the sake of ex-
periencing something
extraordinary. This religious
physical exercise falls under the
now famous European motto,
“United in Diversity.” Every practitioner may
keep his unique identity, but consciously or
subconsciously, is endorsing Hinduism.
This reminds us of the Bible’s recorded
first ecumenical worship service in Daniel
chapter 3. King Nebuchadnezzar built a
golden image for a specific purpose—reli-
gious worship. We read in verse 5: “That at
what time ye hear the sound of the cornet,
flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all
kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the
golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king
hath set up.” There was no requirement to
change one’s religion or destroy the idols that
were traditionally worshiped. All one had to
do was “fall down and worship the golden
image.”
What was the alternative? “And whoso
falleth not down and worshippeth shall the
same hour be cast into the midst of a burning
fiery furnace” (verse 6).
In the last book of the Bible, the final
ecumenical worship service is revealed.
This time the object of worship is also a
manmade image. Revelation 13:15 reads:
“And he had power to give life unto the im-
age of the beast, that the image of the beast
should both speak, and cause that as many

bon pollution by 5 percent over
the next nine years.

every metric ton of carbon dioxide they emit
from 2012.
Some of this money will be used to help com-
pensate households that will be hit by higher
power bills.

environment,” said Australia’s Prime Minister Ju-
lia Gillard, whose country is the rich world’s
worst per capita greenhouse gas emitter due to
a heavy reliance on ageing coal-fired power sta-
tions for electricity generation.
“That is why the Gillard government is imple-
menting a comprehensive plan for a clean en-
ergy future for our nation,” she said.

the 27 European Union member states plus
Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, has forced
power producers to pay for carbon emissions,
driving cuts where power plants were forced
to switch to less carbon-emitting natural gas
or biomass.

Most scientists the world over agree that
carbon pollution is a contributing factor
to global warming. However, there is a
large group of dissenters who argue that
manmade pollution is not the cause of the
much acclaimed global warming.
What is our position? We insist, based
on Holy Scripture, that although the
weather pattern in recent time has exhib-
ited ups and downs, fundamentally, there
is no change. The Bible says, “While the
earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest,
and cold and heat, and summer and win-
ter, and day and night shall not cease”
(Genesis 8:22).
The nations that implement strict pol-
lution standards are the richest and most
successful in the world. Also, they will
benefit even more as additional nations
will jump on the bandwagon, proclaiming
the urgency with their message, “Save the
planet.” But the real and final global de-
struction involving planet Earth is docu-
mented for us in 2 Peter 3:12: “Looking
for and hasting unto the coming of the
day of God, wherein the heavens being
on fire shall be dissolved, and the ele-
ments shall melt with fervent heat.” 4130

stated that “China is NOT involved”
in the prophesied war with Israel. In
the June, July and August 2010 is-
sues, Wilfred Hahn wrote an article
series titled “Far East Trends Today,”
saying that China WILL be involved
in this war. The Bible talks about the
200 million troops of China (the
East) in Rev. 9:14-16, who will kill
1/3 of mankind, so isn’t China going
to be involved in this last big war
over Israel?
I would also like your thoughts on
Obama as to his involvement in the
tribulation; do you think he will be-
come the new permanent EU presi-
dent?
It is said that Kissinger and the
Bilderbergers are responsible for

ready for him to run for president
again. He has not been truthful, so
far, in anything, including the his-
tory of where he came from and
where he was born. Since he first
took office he has been selling our

what Paul wrote in Ephesians 6:12.

ent opinions occasionally. My read-
ing of Revelation 9 leads me to
believe it deals with demonic forces,
not literal, physical people: they orig-
inate from “the bottomless pit.” Be-
sides, this is not manmade war, but
God-made judgment of planet earth.
Your questions about Obama,
Kissinger, the Bilderbergers and the
coming Muslim invasion reveal that
you receive a lot of information from
conspiracy theory sources. When
carefully analyzed, one finds that
they are mostly based on imagina-
tion.
Besides, if you are looking for a
candidate for Antichrist, you must
find a benevolent, upright, coura-
geous individual whom the world
supports enthusiastically.

Marriage
Dear Editor,
This is my first and possibly
only letter to you, sent with my
thanks to Midnight Call for a
courtesy year.
You, unlike most Christians,
do not believe an infant dying
will be eternally saved. My
mother was the only other per-
son I know of who believed as
you. She taught me that such a
belief is contrary to God having
given humans freedom of
choice. She believed the infant’s
soul is in God’s care and tutelage
while its mind matures until a
choice can be made—even as the
angels chose their loyalty and
we must choose whom we serve.
Also, has Midnight Call ever
carried an article on what the
New Testament teaches about
the marriage covenant? So many
who claim Christianity are di-
vorcing and remarrying. Does
not Romans 1:31-32 teach that
covenant-breakers are worthy of
death? Even if one party of the
marriage breaks the covenant, it
seems that is “for worse.”
Should not the one who wants
the marriage to endure keep
their personal vow made on
their wedding day? It seems that
many Christians, even some
preachers need help on this.

Answer: Regarding infants, I have
made my opinion clear: God knows.
I don’t believe in automatic salva-
tion, for it does not measure up to
the teaching of Holy Scripture.
Regarding marriage, 1 Corinthi-
ans 7 highlights many important
points such as in verses 4, 8, 9, 11, 15
and 32. Marriage is for life and
should be respected as such. Any-
one who reads Holy Scripture and
believes it, receives the answer very
plainly. Because your question is
seeking an answer for others, I will
not proceed further on this matter
except to say that in the end, mar-
riage will be obsolete (1 Timothy
4:3). We already experience that to a
large degree in the European world
(the West). Do Christians and
preachers need help in this matter?
I don’t think so. They already know,
so if they do not follow Scripture,
then they deliberately choose the
wrong way.

Dear “Letters to the Editor,”
Back in 1984, I needed some
extra money to send my son to
college. I rented two bedrooms
to two students, one studying to

be a minister, and one, a Mus-
lim, studying accounting.
I am a born-again Christian,
and we had many discussions
about religion. After a few
months, I felt compelled to read
the Koran. I also read books on
Muhammad and Islam at that
time.
In addition to your statement
that “The Koran, indeed, ac-
knowledges Jesus as a prophet,
but Muslims do not believe
that Jesus is the Son of God,”
I wanted to add that the Koran
does confirm that Jesus was
born of a virgin, performed
miracles, and was called the
Messiah.
As to what the Koran states
about Jesus on the cross, I quote
the following:
4:158-159, “And for their say-
ing, ‘We did slay the Messiah, Je-
sus, son of Mary, the Messenger
of Allah,’ whereas they slew him
not; nor did they bring about his
death on the cross, but he was
made to appear to them like one
crucified; and those who differ
therein are certainly in a state of
doubt about it; they have no cer-
tain knowledge thereof, but only
pursue a conjecture; and they
did not arrive at a certainty con-
cerning it. On the contrary, Al-
lah exalted him to Himself. And
Allah is Mighty, Wise.”
I asked several Muslims what
they believed happened, and the
majority think He was taken
into heaven alive and will return
at the end of the age with the
missing Imam (also called the
“Mahdi”), who will bring true
justice. Others believe He did

to teach in India and is buried in
Kashmir under another name.

quoting some of the Koran. One rea-
son Islam does not acknowledge Je-
sus as God is because the Koran
specifically states, “God has no son.”
When we consider their somewhat
favorable mention of Jesus the Son
of Mary, we must be alert to the dan-
ger when talking to those who are
not grounded in the faith. We know

Spirit of God does not consider such

proclaimed—“I will build my
church”—continues until the com-
pletion.

the four-page article titled, “The Secret
Plan for a New Global Currency.”The ar-
ticle very blatantly reveals its conspiracy
theories with words such as “operating
behind the scenes…abandoned ho-
tel…decisions were reached to devalue
or defend currencies, fix the price of
gold, regulate offshore banking, raise or
lower short-term interest rates…etc.”
Yet there is a conspiracy, that of the
god of this world, Lucifer, who rules
all nations on planet earth and at-
tempts to create a peaceful, prosper-
ous and secure global society.
Actually, he will be successful accord-
ing to Revelation 13. I deal with that

Answer: Throughout the New Testa-
ment, we are invited to come to Jesus,
“Come unto me…I am the truth…I am
the life…I am the Good Shepherd…
I am the door…I lay down my life.” We
are not invited to come to His blood. It
is the name which is given above
every name to deliver the sick, to be
saved from danger, to be restored
mentally; only in His name is salvation.
Pleading the blood is putting the cart
before the horse.
Incidentally, the same applies to
the Holy Spirit. We do not ask the Holy
Spirit to do this or that; it is the Holy
Spirit who makes “intercession for us.”
He glorifies Jesus, not vice versa.
