hese few words describe in a shocking way the situation as it was when Jesus was born. It would be a horrible experience for any pregnant woman to have to give birth to a child in a stable. Just once imagine the prevailing hygienic conditions! However, this is part of the Christmas story, and a certain Christmas romanticism would be missing if the manger in the stable were not included in it. After all, we know a number of Christmas carols which speak of the stable in Bethlehem. Certainly, we must ask the question: was Jesus really born in a stable? It is a fact that even in the Gospel of Luke, the most comprehensive of all the descriptions of the Christmas story, there is no word of it. Possibly, the birth of our Lord Jesus even took place in a cave or in the open country. No room for Jesus, no place for the Son of God! God could easily have arranged all this differently and have Jesus come into the world in surroundings fitting His rank. But with this deed, He wanted to say as it were, I want to come into the narrowness

of your heart, a place where there is no room. In John 14:23, Jesus reveals the intention of His Father: We will come to him (the person who loves Him), and make our abode with him. Now what does it look like in this abode, in our heart? Could God really move there to live? Can He really dwell there? Or have we only reserved a small chamber for Him? Perhaps a spare room that is open only on Sunday, while we make the remaining space available for our own needs? We spend much time on our hobbies, our family, on personal interests. The Lord Jesus has no priority; perhaps He is even entirely excluded. A true meeting with our Lord hardly ever occurs any more. A time of stillness, moments of having contact with God have become very rare. No room for Jesus, no time for Jesus! We certainly take good care of our health, but the care for our inner man is often totally neglected. Room for our Lord has become very small. Paul deals with this topic relating to the Corinthi-

ans: In all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God our heart is enlarged! You are not straitened in us, but you are straitened in your own hearts! (2 Corinthians 6:4, 11-12). A narrow heart toward other children of God usually shows that the Lord has only little room. Next, Paul compares the heart with the temple of God, in which He wants to dwell. It is obvious that the Corinthians gave little room to the Spirit of God, and instead admitted much trash: Be not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship has righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what concord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has he that believes with an unbeliever? And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God; as God has said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people (2 Cor. 6:14-16). This summons of God by Paul also calls to every one of us! At Christmas, the words of Titus are often quoted: The grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men (Titus 2:11). Paul warns us: But as coworkers together with Him, we beseech you also that you receive not the grace of God in vain (2 Cor. 6:1). May these coming Christmas days serve to create entirely new room for our Lord in our hearts. He wants to reach and wondrously fill our hearts with His glory, with His grace, with His light. This can mean that dark rooms are filled with light. Thus, we should not hesitate but do what Paul says: Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved (that God wants to dwell in us), let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God (2 Cor. 7:1). The object of Midnight Call is to call people everywhere to Christ, to proclaim the Second Coming of Christ, to prepare Christians for His coming, and to uphold the faith and warn of false doctrines. Midnight Call magazine is available in twelve languages. All work done through radio, literature and missionaries is supported entirely by the gifts and free will offerings of Gods people. STATEMENT OF FAITH WE BELIEVE in the divine inspiration of the whole Bible and therewith the infallibility of the Holy Scripture, which is Gods Word, and in the eternal Triune God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. WE BELIEVE Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, and shed His blood to save mankind. He died and arose bodily the third day and later ascended into heaven. WE BELIEVE that the Lord Jesus Christ died in the place of each individual sinner and that all who believe in Him as their personal Savior are justified through His shed blood and have become children of God. WE BELIEVE that Israel is Gods chosen people, and that the restoration of the Jews to their own land is the fulfillment of the Word of God. WE BELIEVE in the pretribulational appearance of Jesus Christ for the Rapture of His Church (all born again believers). WE BELIEVE in the immortality of our souls and the resurrection of our bodies, and in the resurrection of the just and the unjust, the everlasting blessedness of the saved and the everlasting punishment of the lost.

The miracle of the incarnation of Jesus is an incredible event. What does this so well-known event have to say to us today?

Jesus really did come into this world as a child. Why? To die on Calvarys cross for our sins and to reconcile us with God.
e see the miracle of the incarnation of Jesusthe Son of Godin the wellknown announcement of the prophet Isaiah, Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel (Isaiah 7:14). This announcement is mighty and unique, for here both the divinity of Jesus and His incarnation are mentioned in one sentence. The key to this is the significance of the name Immanuel. Matthew reports how an angel appeared to Joseph to speak to him about the birth of Jesus, and then Matthew explains, Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us (Matthew 1:22-23). How clearly we see here the incarnation of the Son of God! This Child was not just a human child but God with us, Emmanuel! It was God Himself who came to man in this way. He chose this way quite deliberately, Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same (Hebrews 2:14). Yes, this Emmanuel, this God with us, grew under the heart of a simple, insignificant, Jewish girl, and ultimately she gave birth to the King of all kings! This event, which surpasses our understanding, is described in the New Testament in an impressive way, Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: but made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men (Philippians 2:6-7). What an unfathomable and mighty fact, that the Son of God (God Himself) became man! It is as though Paul is searching for words when he wrote this to the Philippians. We find the same reverence in connection with this theme in the first letter to Timothy, And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh (1 Timothy 3:16). We cannot understand or explain the incarnation of Jesus, the Son of God. It surpasses our understanding. The incarnation of
God is and remains a mystery. And yet it happened! Jesus really did come into this world as a child. Why? To die on Calvarys cross for our sins and to reconcile us with God. Jesus Christ was not only man and lived as a man. He also died as a man! And this was all for you and for me, to give us eternal life! (He) made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross (Philippians 2:7-8). Did Jesus Christ also become man for you and die for your sins on Calvarys cross? Have you ever accepted the sacrifice that He brought for you? He became man in order to redeem you from the curse of sin and to give you eternal life! Angelus Silesius, a religious poet in Germany in the 17th century, coined a very true saying, If Christ were born in Bethlehem a thousand times over, but not in you, you would remain lost forever! As a child, I once read a story that I have never forgotten. A monkey fell into deep mire. As he began to sink in it, in desperation he tried to pull himself out by his hair. The end of the story is obvious. He sank in this fatal mire. This is what it is like in our present world. Man is bogged down in the mire of his own sin. Unfortunately, many are completely indifferent to this, and their dire circumstances leave them cold. But there are people who are conscious of the fact that they are lost, like that monkey in the mire. What do they do? They try to get themselves out of the mire, through good works; for instance, self-castigation, sacrifices, pilgrimages and the like. But this does not help them. On the contrary, they sink slowly but surely deeper and deeper into the mireunless they grasp the extended hand of the One who left His throne in heaven for them, to become man and to die in their place for their sins at Calvary: Jesus Christ. You are a lost sinner and condemned to perish in your sins if you do not grasp the hand of Jesus which He is offering you. However moral a life you live, you cannot stand before God. Your sins bar the

Before Jesus came into this world as a child in Bethlehem, something unimaginable took place: the wonderful conception of Mary. Mary received her child through the Holy Spirit. We actually fear to speak of this, because the whole thing is so special, so wonderful. But the Bible speaks of it, and therefore we want to concern ourselves now with this extraordinary event. Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost (Matthew 1:18). Here we see, as in Isaiah 7:14, a very special testimony concerning the incarnation of the Son of God, Jesus Christ. This verse is a proof that it really was God who became man about two thousand years ago. Jesus was to become true man, and that is why He was born of a woman. But He was also to be true God, and that is why Mary conceived Him through the Holy Spirit. Jesus was not Josephs biological son, but the Son of God, and Mary was His earthly, biological mother. The virgin Mary of Nazareth bore a child under her heart that she had received of the Holy Spirit. Can we ever explain this? Is it even possible? No, we cannot explain it, but it is possible, of course. Why? Because for God, nothing is impossible. When the angel Gabriel announced to Mary that she would become the mother of a son, whom she should call Jesus, this was a very difficult thing for her to understand. She was not even married to Joseph, but only betrothed to him. A betrothal, or engagement as we call it today, meant more than that then, although the actual

gel departed from her (verse 38). Mary still could not understand the whole thing, and she was not given a plausible explanation, but she had been given the glorious assurance, Mary, there is a God who is capable of doing such things! He was able to give an elderly, infertile woman a son. And it is He who can produce in you such an extraordinary conception! The so miraculous conception of Mary and the virgin birth do not particularly surprise Christians today. Why? Because these truths are rooted deep down in their hearts. This is on the one hand good, but on the other hand it is rather a shame. Although this event is very well known to us, it remains inconceivable to our understanding. This very thing should move us to be all the more amazed: what the virgin Mary experienced is humanly speaking impossible, but there is a God who can do anything and for whom nothing is impossible! We should see the extraordinary and miraculous incarnation of Jesus consciously from this point of view again. It happened because for God, nothing is impossible. This whole story testifies of a great God who is almighty and sovereign. This is what we Christians need so urgently in these end times: a completely new consciousness of the absolute omnipotence of our God!
who expected a child and knew that her pregnancy would at some time become visible. What must she have thought? What a shock this must have been for this young, single, Jewish girl! When the angel said to her, Behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son (Luke 1:31), she said to him, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? (verse 34). This was a logical reaction. But what did the angel answer her? He began to speak of her extraordinary conception, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God (verse 35). And then he explained to her, For with God nothing shall be impossible (verse 37). Gabriel said this with reference to Elisabeth, a relative of Mary, who was elderly and considered infertile, and was now expecting a son. This was to encourage Mary. No further explanation was necessary for this extraordinary event than the words of the angel, Gabriel. And sure enough, in Lukes Gospel we read that Mary calmed down when she heard these words, And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the an-
It can happen that a Christian is overcome by an almost paralyzing inner tiredness. Through this, a kind of spiritual apathy can result, which can affect the one concerned greatly. There is this feeling of inability, of inner emptiness. Why do such things take place in a born-again Christian? The answer is, because here on earth we are living in enemy terriDECEMBER 2011 9
tory. And, we often feel the great pressure of this. The Scriptures do not say by chance in Ephesians 6:12, For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. In addition to this, each one of us has some kind of burden to carry, whether it is connected with our health, finances or something else. Life in enemy territory leaves its mark on us. And so we know times in which we feel inwardly tired and weary. Do we not see this in great personalities in the Bible? Think of John the Baptist, for instance, who asked the Lord Jesus through his disciples, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another? (Matthew 11:3). These words, spoken by a man of God, testified to a kind of inner resignation and weariness. This is understandable, for John was imprisoned by Herod at the time; he found himself, in the truest sense of the words, in enemy territory. And yet this does not mean that he was completely cut off from Jesus, for the message of the mighty works of the Lord reached him in prison, Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ (verse 2). And yet John had no light at that moment. The grave circumstances in which he found himself really affected him. It can be like this for us Christians in the end times. Our presence in enemy territory, and also other circumstances in our lives, can so affect us

that we become inwardly weary. Are you feeling inwardly tired and weary at the moment? Are you resigned? Do you lack joy? Think of the wonderful conception of Mary and the virgin birth, and that the angel Gabriel explained to Mary, With God nothing shall be impossible! You do not need more vacations, more leisure or an extraordinary, exhilarating experience to come to rest inwardly. What you need is a new vision of the greatness and omnipotence of your God! Why did these extraordinary things take place at that time? For one thing, because it was Gods will. Secondly, also because for God, nothing is impossible and He can do what He plans. We Christians often read over such mighty testimonies in the Bible and they no longer amaze us. They do not move us to worship because we have gotten so used to them. Are your problems greater than those which Mary had so suddenly? In other words, can you imagine what this young girl felt when the angel told her that she would become pregnant? Have you any idea what a tremendous thing this must have been for this young Jewish girl, who was still betrothed and in the probationary period of waiting? Suddenly she, a spotless virgin from Nazareth, was going to be pregnant? But she found peace through the words of the angel, With God nothing shall be impossible (Luke 1:37). This comforting statement encouraged her to let herself fall unconditionally into the arms of God, Behold the hand-

maid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word (verse 38). Christmas 2011this means that we are confronted anew with the work of redemption of a loving Father: Christ came into this world to die in our place for our sins! But Christmas 2011 should also cause us to see something else in a new light: the extraordinary way which the Father thought out to send His Son into this world. Who can understand that a simple girl would become pregnant through the Holy Spirit? Nobody! Mary also looked at the angel in perplexity when he brought her this message. But she came to a deep, inner peace in this impossible situation, because she had grasped the fact that behind it all stood a great God, for whom nothing is impossible. Does not the same God watch over your life and over all your problems, which seem to be so unsolvable at the moment? The same Lord, for whom nothing at all is impossible, is with you now to give you peace. Jesus Himself once said, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible (Mark 10:27). They are almost the same words as those which the angel Gabriel spoke to Mary. To whom did our Lord speak them? To His disciples, who had just heard Jesus statement, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God (verse 25). Can a camel go through the eye of a needle? No! In other words, a rich man cannot enter into heaven. No wonder the Lords disciples were astonished and said, Who then can be saved? (verse 26). We understand this fearful question of the disciples only too well. But Jesus answered them, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible (verse 27). Jesus explained to them, it is possible for a camel to go through the eye of a needle if God wants it to, for with God all things are possible. And it is also possible, therefore, for a rich man to enter into heaven. With man it is impossible, but not with God, for whom everything is possible. Do you know who also came to recognize this, after he had been in the depths of the crucible of suffering? Job, who said, I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee (Job 42:2). My dear reader, will you not begin to trust Him anew for whom nothing is impossible? Will you not say like Mary to your God, Behold the handmaid (servant) of the Lord: be it unto me according to thy word (Luke 1:38)? Is the Lord waiting for this at this Christmas time? (MR1210/465)

There are two things to consider in this article. The first is a couple events in the life of Christ, and the second is the progression of history. To begin, we want to ask the question, Who is the Child of Christmas?
any Americans celebrate the Christmas holiday anticipating time with family and friends, the giving and receiving of gifts, pretending about Santa Claus with children and, of course, the big meals. However, have you truly taken the time to consider the reason why we celebrate Christmas? The holiday is one of the most important and eagerly anticipated of Western societies. Why is it so important and so eagerly anticipated? Well, certainly we enjoy singing the traditional Christmas carols during this time of year. Carols such as Ill Be Home for Christmas, Jingle Bells, and White Christmas appeal to our senses and evoke fond memories. Others such as Away in a Manger, First Noel, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, and Silent Night praise the One for whom the holiday is named. Most of you know that Christmas is a compound word composed of Christ (literally, the Anointed One or Messiah) and Mass (i.e. holy-day), and so the word itself lets us know that it is the day in which we celebrate the birth of Gods Anointed One, Jesus the Messiah (the Christ). The birth of Jesus of Nazareth was an historical event anticipated for over 4,000 years (see Gen 3:15). Eve, the first woman,

There are a couple of events in the life of Christ that are pertinent to mention here because they pertain to His reign as King upon Davids throne in Jerusalem. The birth of the King is first recorded in Matthew 1. Matthews genealogy is written from Josephs perspective. Joseph is playing the active role, whereas Mary is playing the passive role. Lukes genealogy reverses the roles and writes from the perspective of Mary. The emphasis of Matthew 1:1 is that Jesus Christ is the fulfiller of both the Abrahamic (Jew) and the Davidic (king) covenants; it is the legal genealogy proving that Jesus is the rightful heir according to the Jewish law. Matthew skipped the names of three kings in order to give 3 groups of 14, which may be due to his focus on King David, whose name in Hebrew is equivalent to 14. Matthew also contradicted normal

When Jesus comes to reign, then Romans 11:25-26 will be fulfilled. Therefore, the rejection of the King was part of Gods plan to redeem mankind from sin. For it was by His death at Calvary that Christ the King paid the penalty of sin, which is death. Moreover, by His resurrection, He is victorious over death, and He is coming again.
However, the Jews refused when they were forced to adopt worship of Greek gods. The Seleucid Dynasty won Israel in 198 BC, and Antiochus III held control of Israel, Syria, and Phoenicia. The grandson of Antiochus, Antiochus IV Epiphanes (epifanes: The Magnificent) turned against the Jews; he became intolerant toward their worship and built stadiums in Jerusalem. He warred against Egypt, but then he turned against the Jews by looting Jerusalem, abolishing Temple worship, outlawing Judaism, and erecting an altar to Zeus in the Temple. A Jew by the name of Judas Maccabeus (the Hammer) defeated the Greeks in 164 BC, but hostilities continued and war in Israel was perpetual. The Book of Maccabees (in the Apocrypha) is not inspired by God, but does provide a good historical account of the Maccabean revolt. Rome defeated the Greeks worldwide and in 63 BC, the Roman general Pompey besieged Jerusalem and took control of the Temple Mount. Julius Caesar defeated General Pompey in 48 BC, then took an aristocratic young man named Herod and nominated him to be a Roman puppet ruler on the throne in Judea. Herod ingratiated himself to Octavian (later named Emperor Augustus) and Mark Antony, who in 40 BC persuaded the Roman Senate to confirm Herod as king of Judea. In 37 BC, Herod captured Jerusalem and killed 45 members of the Sanhedrin and confiscated their possessions. He began a reign of terror that lasted for 33 years. During the last few years of his life, he met the wise men from Babylon. In all that has been described, there was no peace for the Jews!
To bring personal peace, Christ must first suffer (Mark 8:31; Luke 17:24-25; 24:25-27; Acts 26:2123). Therefore, the prophetic order is as follows: prophecies Israel rejects the world rejects Jesusfirst coming He must suffer first Israel scattered God reaches the world the tribulation Jesus comes to reign

Nevertheless, how could a mere man accomplish such a tremendous task? Indeed, a mere man is incapable of completing this work. Romans 3:23 declares, all have sinned [the Greek verb, ermarton, is a timeless aorist which indicates a moment in time before we were even born into this world; this tense includes the whole race of humanity into one statement] and fallen short of the glory of God. Therefore, if Jesus were a mere man, then He too would be born a sinner. Was the baby Jesus, born to the virgin Mary in the town of Bethlehem nearly 2,000 years ago, a mere man? According to the Bible, this Jesus was more than a mere man. Indeed, He was very man, but He was also God of very God (i.e., true God of true), as the Nicene Creed emphasized. When He assumed human flesh and a human nature, He did not become any less God, nor was He any less than true God. The Old Testament prophets predicted the coming of this Savior. In select passages of their inspired writings, they revealed what is called the deity, or Godnature, of the Messiah. For instance, David in Psalm 2:7 wrote that Jesus is Gods only begotten Son. Isaiah 9:6 declares the Messiahs title to be Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father [e.g., One who is eternally a Father with respect to His people; He acts toward them like a Father], Prince of Peace. The prophet Micah (5:2) wrote, His goings forth are from long ago, from the days of eternity. None but the Lord God Himself could rightfully claim such titles. Jeremiah 23:6 proclaimed that the Messiah is The Lord our Righteousness. Clearly, the Old Testament writers foresaw that the Promised One would be more than merely a mortal man. The work that Messiah accomplished required Him to be fully man, while also being completely free
The Child of Christmas became a man, who gave His life so that by grace through faith in His work alone, we may live with Him in the fullness of His glory for eternity.
from sin in His body, soul, and spirit. The prophet Isaiah foresaw this over 700 years ago before the birth of Jesus, when he wrote, Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel [God in our midst]. Since Adam, the first man, rebelled against the Lord God who created him, he ushered sin into Gods created world. Since all men and women, boys and girls, are descendants of Adam, all humanity, through our genetic composition, has inherited the same nature as Adam. All are sinners by nature, in addition to being sinners by action and thought. He is the prophesied Lamb of God, who was born to die on the cross at Calvary, as a sinless substitute for depraved mankind; thereby He paid the price and removed the consequences of sin. He is the deathconquering Savior, who rose literally from the dead and conquered sin and death once for all time, so that those who have been redeemed may be free from the slavery that sin and death maintain in this world. He is the Prince of Peace, who will bring internal peace to those He has saved, and external peace when He returns a second time to establish His earthly reign on His father Davids throne. He is God the Son, who loved the world so much that He would lay aside the eternal glory and majesty that attended Him in heaven, to become a man, a servant, who would give His life to death in obedience to His Fathers will, so that those who believe on Him would receive His life for eternity. He is the Child born to die. Those three words, born to die, state simply and clearly that our Lord Jesus Christ laid aside His glory, majesty, and rights as God Almighty and took upon Himself the nature of a man. Philippians 2:6-11 not only testifies as to the reason He came, but even more so the attitude that was His during His humiliation. The Son of God became the Servant of God when He became the Son of Man. Fully God in His nature, He took to Himself the full nature of humanity. Being fully God and fully man, He would be able to provide reconciliation in a manner that would satisfy the holy justice of God the Creator, and make provision for those who are in rebellion against God. Second Corinthians 5:19 reads, Jesus Christ was reconciling [bring back into fellowship or friendship] the world unto Himself [in Christ, by means of Jesus death and resurrection], not counting their trespasses [missing the standard of Gods perfection to spend eternity with Him] against them [that is, you and me who live by faith in Gods dear Son]. The Child of Christmas became a man, who gave His life so that by grace through faith in His work alone, we may live with Him in the fullness of His glory for eternity.

The good news is that God made a plan which would allow His Son to become fully man, yet still be free from both the sin nature of humanity and the sinful actions and thoughts which all members of Adams family possess and perform. It is because Adam passed his sin to all his progeny, through his seed, that God would have His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to be born of the seed of the woman, which means Jesus would not have a mere man to be His father. Mary, who never had sexual relations, became the mother of Jesus before she consummated her marriage to Joseph. By a miraculous work, the Holy Spirit caused the conception of Jesus in the womb of Mary without the normal procreative sexual act of a man and woman. Consequently, Jesus became a true manbut without sinwhile always being true God. He would be able to accomplish the plan of redemption. He would be able to experience manhood completely, while accomplishing His work of redemption. As we contemplate biblical passages and Bible doctrine, it should be plain who the Child was. He was very much a newborn baby who would mature as a true man. He is the Promised One, who would bruise the head of Satan and destroy his influence upon the earth at His second coming. He is the Anointed One of God, who has been identified as the most unique person in the history of the world.

What does the Bible say about world conspiracy theories? Do they belong to the prophetic Word? In this series, we look into this and other connected questions. Read here Part 6.
n the book of Daniel, we are given a unique sketch of world history, right up to the appearing of the Antichrist and the salvation of Israel. The striking thing about this book is that God Himself is the active one, from chapter 1 to chapter 12. He holds all the strings in His hands and steers the events. He does not allow things to happen, but makes them happen! It is He who delivers His people into the hands of Nebuchadnezzar in chapter 1, verse 2. Then Nebuchadnezzar has his troubling dream. Because the Babylonian priests and wise men were not able to tell him about his dream, he fears a conspiracy against him and wants to kill them. It is not the result of a conspiracy, however, but God who is clearly putting this world ruler in his place. And in the midst of this scenario, we read the key words in world history, Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom

and might are his: and he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: he revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him (Daniel 2:20-22). This is the exact opposite of an alleged decades- or centuries-long world conspiracy, which is carrying out its plan step by step. Conspiracy theorists attempt to convince us that behind everything, whichever president or head of state is elected, are the Freemasons or the shadow cabinets of this world. Whether we are talking about the First or Second World Wars, the division of Germany and then the collapse of the Berlin Wall, everything is supposedly being steered by the Freemasons. We read here the exact opposite. Of course, the Antichrist will arise in the end. But it is God Himself and not any secret organization who

instates kings and removes them, who changes times and seasons. This is a clear contrast to the world conspiracy theories. Particularly in the time when the Lord is beginning to gather His people Israel again and to establish them outwardly, in the very time that we are living, He Himself is at work and not any secret organization in world politics. To quote from Isaiah 43:4-6, Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life. Fear not: for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west; I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth. With the rebirth of Israel, God is making it clear that He is giving nations for the gathering of His peoplenot the Freemasons or any other secret organization. It must give us food for thought that the whole of the world conspiracy theories fall in the time of the rebirth of the state and people of Israel, and seek to blind us to the working of God in the midst of world history. Therefore, the question to each one of us arises, in whom or what do we put our trust? The Word of God as it stands? Or some spectacular conspiracy theories? In Daniel chapters 2 and 7, it becomes very clear that the world empires cannot do what they want, in spite of all the intrigues and their apparent power. God shows the people and the world religions their limits clearly in these chapters. A very detailed look into the course of world history is given us in Daniel 11. Here, details up to the appearing of Antiochus Epiphanes are shown us, who was a forerunner of the Antichrist. From verse 36 onward, it is surely about the last world dictator himself. What do we learn from chapter 11?
We do not find any trace of a world conspiracy or a long-term plan that is taking place step by step, and which all the rulers are submitting to more and more. Instead of this, this chapter gives us a glimpse into the depths of the sinful human heart. Each of these rulers is attempting to conquer the other, to trick him and deceive him. This chapter is about intrigues, hypocrisy, pride, secret plans and other things. The rulers war against one another, have evil in mind, and therefore lie to one another (Daniel 11:27). The whole chapter is the sheer opposite of a long-term conspiracy. The rulers can attempt whatever they will, but in the end, Gods plan will be fulfilled. He is ultimately the active one and not the permitting one. A man named Benedict Peters writes on this subject, A second reason for the detailed prophecies lies in the fact that they make it clear to us that God is pursuing His purpose throughout all the changing scenes in world history. Kings may attempt to realize their own plans through war or diplomacy, with cunning and massacres. Under the hand of God, without being aware of it, they have to serve the fulfillment of Gods purposes with His people and the whole world. It really is as they used to say in olden times: hominum confusione, dei provisionein human confusion, Gods foreknowledge is found. Gods purpose is being carried out and will ultimately be fulfilled. As mentioned before, this chapter speaks from verse 25 onwards of Antiochus Epiphanes, a forerunner of the Antichrist. This proud and ruthless ruler would not come to power through a long-term conspiracy and building up, but through ruthless behavior and lies, as well as his own pride and arrogance. In Daniel 7:8 & 24, the Antichrist himself is spoken of. Here also, nothing speaks of a conspiracy, but of ruthless, self-glorifying and brutal behavior, And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten

With the appearing of Hitler, we find a historical parallel to these events. He also did not need any secret brotherhoods and lodges to prepare the way for him for decades. kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings (verse 24). According to verse 20, three horns will fall. Instead of conspiracy, the Bible speaks in Daniel, as also in Revelation, of a blasphemous mouth and the speeches connected with it, through which mankind is deceived. With the appearing of Hitler, we find a historical parallel to these events. He also did not need any secret brotherhoods and lodges to prepare the way for him for decades. No, in the short space of not even ten years, he gathered his adherents around him and paved the way himself, in a brutal and cunning way together with great and blasphemous speeches. In the book of Daniel, we find no trace of any long-term world conspiracy that is being carried out step by step. On the contrary. The sinful human heart is revealed to us in the power struggle of the human ruler, and in the end, a brutal and ruthless dictator will come to power who treads down all the others. Over all the confusion stands God Himself, who is active and thwarts human plans and the time and freedom to act of the individual. In this connection, I want to add something about the Freemasons and Bilderbergers: these organizations are also human battles for power and are permeated by the egoism of the individual. In this sequence of articles, I have already mentioned how national lodges are engaged in competition and disputes with one another. A former Worshipful Master reported in Idea Spektrum No. 42/2009 how, after his election, he was almost solely engaged in settling the quarrels of the brothers of the lodge among one another, which were based on jealousy and rivalry. This is a far cry from a united front. David Rothkopf describes in a book on the superclass, of the ambitions of around 6,000 rich and influential people, who are continually attempting to extend their power. But a united front can hardly be spoken of. Rather, connections and such organizations as the Bilderbergers are used to establish further contacts with others, to gain the greatest possible advantage for themselves. This all corresponds with what the book of Daniel teaches, even more than the theories about the remotely controlled world politics of the Bilderbergers and Freemasons in the background. (MR0711/464)

In the July and August issues of MCM, we reviewed the Bible prophecies relating to earthquakes. We concluded that a rise in the frequency of earthquakes yet lies ahead for the world; moreover, that there are two distinct groups of earthquakes that are yet to occur.
irstly, there is the heightened earthquake activity that unfolds in the first half of the Tribulation period. These quakes are the ones mentioned by Christ in the Olivet Discourse (earthquakes in divers places, Matthew 24:7, KJV). Secondly, there are five earthquake occurrences mentioned in the Book of Revelation, all of which follow the 5th seal, therefore falling into the Great Tribulation period (namely, the latter 42 months of the 7-year Tribulation). The Olivet prophecies mention other endtime phenomena occurring besides earthquakes. When the disciples asked Christ, When shall these things be? He said the following:
And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows (Matthew 24:6-8, KJV). All three accounts of the Olivet Discourse or portions thereof (found in Matthew 24, Mark 13 and Luke 21), confirm the future occurrence of earthquakes, wars, rumors of war, pestilences, and nations rising against nations and kingdoms against kingdoms. We observe then that war-related events figure very prominently. Both hear[ing] of wars and rumors of wars

rising against nation, and kingdom against kingdom unfolds at a different and later time. This phenomenon is clearly part of the time that is called the beginning of sorrows. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows (Matthew 24:7-8). Different Types of Strife Just what is the difference between the hearing of wars and rumors of wars, and the advent of nation rising against nation, and kingdom against kingdom? Moreover, if wars always occurred down through history, just when do wars now become markers of the time before the Tribulation is to start? The main distinction that we can draw between the two war-related phenomena is that in the first stage (the pretribulation period), wars and rumors thereof are mainly only being heard about. There obviously are wars and strife occurring, whether between individual countries or alliances, as always has been the case throughout history. But, the main emphasis in this prophecy is the actual hearing. As such, though the frequency of war and strife may be rising in the world, it is also the hearing of these wars and rumors themselves that are increasing. In other words, the intensity of the news of wars, geopolitical strife etc. is also increasing. That suggests a time where the globalization of news-making and news delivery itself is expanding.
Though the frequency of war and strife may be rising in the world, it is also the hearing of these wars and rumors themselves that are increasing. In other words, the intensity of the news of wars, geopolitical strife etc. is also increasing.
and nation rising against nation, and kingdom against kingdom are mentioned. Just when do these occur, and what is the difference between these two indicators of global strife and conflict? We want to more clearly emphasize the timing and the different nature of these two phenomena. Difference Between Wars and Nations Rising The timing and the roles of the two signs of hearing of wars and rumors of wars and nations rising against nation are very different. They do not refer to the same endtime phenomena for at least two reasons. First, they occur in different time periods. To illustrate this observation, we must note that Christ clearly partitions the Olivet prophecies into three separate time periods: 1. That which is before the end comes (the end is not yet); 2. the beginning of the end, which is also referred to as the beginning of sorrows (Matthew 24:8, Mark 13:8, Luke 21:9); and 3. the time that comes thereafter (events described from Matthew 24:9 and Mark 13:9 onward). These periods correspond to the time leading up to the Tribulation Period, the first half of the Tribulation (42 months), and the next 42 months, often referred to as the Great Tribulation. We must therefore notice that intercountry conflicts are mentioned in two different contexts: Firstly, the hearing of wars and rumors of wars (Matthew 24:6) occur before the end comes (this meaning the period before the Tribulation period starts). Secondly, we must then note that the occurrence of nation

It seems correct to conclude that the general mode of all the nations of the world at that time will be war. While our newspapers around the world today are full of rumors of war reporting on actual wars, or geopolitical challenges or civil unresta general state of war involving the majority of nations does not yet exist.
Rumors of War Are Increasing Today Can we deduce that rumors of war and the hearing of these related events are today increasing, thereby signifying that the pre-tribulation time indicated by Christ is now here? A recent study of this topic (published by Mark Harrison and Nikolaus Wolf of the University of Warwick and Humboldt University, respectively1) concludes that the incidence of war has been steadily rising worldwide over the last 130 years or so. While the authors state that many indicators of interstate conflict have been flat or declining for decades or longer [] there has been a steady upward trend in the number of bilateral conflicts over 130 years, increasing by an average rate of 2% per annum during this period. The conclusion of this study is different to that of many other such studies in recent decades on the trends of interstate and intra-state conflicts. For example, a recent report of the World Development Indicators (World Bank, 2011) concludes the following:
Interstate war has declined dramatically since the two world wars of the first half of the 20th century. Major civil conflicts (those with more than 1,000 battle deaths a year) increased during the postcolonial

prophecy, occurring in the final 7-year Tribulation period. Huge economic dislocations are presently underway, affecting both nations and individual households. Over history, such changes have always been connected to interstate strife as well as civil unrest. The most classic example of this in recent centuries was the French Revolution. Huge wealth imbalances, poverty and economic difficulties played a significant role in the societal disruptions of that time. As sovereign high-income nations face technical insolvency, their bond markets literally collapsing, citizens have taken to the streets in violent protest. Austerity measures and cutbacks in living standards have brought out looting and violence. In the lesseradvanced natons, soaring prices of agricultural commodities (in no small part a side-effect of rich-country financial speculation and investor desperation to escape the travails of currency debasement) have contributed to the so-called Arab Spring and other protests around the world. The cost of food typically comprises as much as 40 to 50% of household living costs in lesser-advanced nations (compared to only 10% to 15% in the advanced, high-income nations.) As such, when the prices of wheat, corn, rice and other staple grains rise (recently, increases of 50% and more have not been uncommon), this exacts huge stresses upon the lower-income nations. A recently-released study entitled Austerity and Anarchy,2 clearly connects deteriorating economic conditions with rising anarchy and chaos. Such

and Cold War era, peaking in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Since 199192, when there were 21 active major civil wars, the number has steadily fallen to less than 10 each year since 2002.
Do the reports contradict each other? No. The emphasis of the World Bank report is on actual wars (above a death count of 1,000) rather than the hearing and rumors of wars. It uses a rather subjective starting point for its observations, namely after the two major world wars, and then compares it to that prior time, thus exaggerating its conclusion. And finally, it does not take into account the number of countries that are involved in any one conflict. In contrast, in the first report, the analysts count conflicts between pairs of nations, not just wars that may involve multiple nations. As an example, World War II will have accounted for upwards of a dozen of bilateral conflicts, as nations declared wars against many others separately. As such, the main reason that wars and inter-country conflicts have increased is because of the growth in the number of sovereign nations over the period of study. In 1870, there were only approximately 50 nations. Today, there are more than 180 sovereign nations in the world. New Geopolitical Instigations for Strife and Rumors of War Turning our attention to current-day news, who would not be aware of rising economic problems all around the world? Lamb will overcome them because he is Lord of lords and King of kingsand with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers (Revelation 17:14). It could be argued that this battle has been occurring throughout history, coming to its climax involving the entire world at the end of the Tribulation period. Then, a new era is ushered in. People will no longer be preoccupied with war. Economies will no longer by driven by the military state, or nations striving to outwit their enemies with new destructive technologies. The stockpiling of weapons and expending trillions of dollars waging war or on peace-keeping exercises will cease. The prophet Micah tells us that He will judge between many peoples and will settle disputes for strong nations far and wide. They will beat their swords

Amazing Grace
(and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truthand of his fullness have all we received, and grace for grace. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. This centuries-old eyewitness account comes from a man called John (John 1:14, 16-17). He who is the Word is Jesus Christ. The meaning of His coming into this world 2,000 years ago is described by John as amazing grace. All people who run into storms with their lifes ship and are in danger of perishing, all who are about to be shipwrecked, whom the wind is against, all these people can find salvation.
Christmas is the time of the amazing grace of God for all people. The captain of a slave trading ship was able to experience this and wrote the hymn Amazing Grace.
Amazing grace is one of the most well-known hymns in the English-speaking world, and even beyond!
Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound, That saved a wretch like me. I once was lost but now am found, Was blind, but now I see.
This hymn was written in the 18th century by John Newton. He was a former militant atheist and captain of a slave-trading ship. On May 10, 1748, he was in great distress in a storm at sea, and he cried to God for mercy. He was saved. First of all, he began to treat the slaves more humanely. Then, after a few years he gave up his work, became a minister and became involved in the efforts for the abolition of the slave trade.
Twas Grace that taught my heart to fear. And Grace, my fears relieved. How precious did that Grace appear The hour I first believed.
The Bible teaches us the following, And the Word (the Son of God) was made flesh, and dwelt among us,
Through many dangers, toils and snares I have already come; Tis Grace that brought me safe thus far and Grace will lead me home.
To save a person from his burden, a pardon is necessary. Why? Every person has incurred guilt, some more than others. This is our burden. Nobody is innocent. We are all slaves to our faults. The Bible calls this sin

and rebellion against God. This is shown, for instance, in the fact that man is capable of doing things that he actually deplores. No person can live without making mistakes, and come up to Gods high standards. But after death, everyone will have to give account before God for what they have done during their lifetime. Because God cannot tolerate sin in heaven, He has to condemn everyone and banish us to hell, the place of eternal torment. But God wants to pardon us. This is why His Son, Jesus Christ, became man. He came from eternal glory that is, heavento this earth. He lived a life without sin. And then He died voluntarily on a cross, to take our guilt upon Himself. By doing this, He bore as our substitution the divine punishment which we human beings deserve. Through this, everyone who puts their trust in Jesus Christ and believes in Him is pardoned. The Bible describes this as follows, Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross (Colossians 2:14). John connected this grace directly with truth. He wrote, Grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. We cannot separate grace and truth. It is true that God is gracious and pardons. When Jesus Christ was born 2,000 years ago, Gods grace and truth came to our earth in person. This is Christmas! Everything He said and did is absolutely true. Everything that is written about Him in the Bible is the truth. We can trust in what He says. Jesus said of Himself, I am the truth (John 14:6). And He also said, Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away (Matthew 24:35). Somebody described the coming of Jesus in our world with the following words, The Best of heaven for the worst of earth! Through this, the worst people can go to heaven. It is not the case that only the good people will go to heaven. Those who think they are good do not need grace. But no one is good enough for God. Only those who have recognized their guilt and received the grace of Jesus Christ will go to heaven. Grace means that all our mistakes and transgressions have been blotted out as though they had never been. Thus, everyone can be sinless in Gods eyes because the sinless Jesus Christ paid the price through His death on the cross. And do you know what? This Jesus rose again on the third day after His death. He conquered death and proved that He is the Son of God. And this is why everyone who believes in Him has the sure hope of coming to the glory of heaven. He will not be dead after he dies, but alive.
The Lord has promised good to me. His word my hope secures. He will my shield and portion be, As long as life endures.
John wrote that we have all received of His fullness grace for grace. This means abundant grace. We may live each day out of this limitless grace. This is why God gave us Christmas. Instead of giving us what we deserve, He wants to give us what we do not deserve.
Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail, And mortal life shall cease, I shall possess within the veil, A life of joy and peace.

Yuri Milner predictsthe emergence of the global brain, which consists of all the humans connected to each other and to the machine and interacting in a very unique and profound way, creating an intelligence that does not belong to any single human being or computer.
Milner is the technology guru most of us have never heard of. He was an early outside investor in Facebook, sinking $200 million in the company in 2009 for a 1.96 percent stake, a decision that was widely derided as crazy at the time. He was also early to spot the potential of Zynga, the gaming company, and of Groupon, the daily deals site. His investing savvy propelled Milner this year onto the Forbes Rich List, with an estimated net worth of $1 billion. One reason his is not yet a household name is that he does his tech spotting from Moscow, not a city most of us look to for innovative economic ideas. Milner was speaking in the Ukranian city of Yalta, at the annual mini-Davos hosted by the Ukrainian pipes baron and art collector Victor Pinchuk (disclosureI moderated at the event). What was striking about Milners remarks was how sharply his tone differed from that of the other participants. Milners perspective was entirely different. For one thing, at a time when where you sit so often determines where you stand, Milner almost perfectly represents a global technology elite whose frame of reference is planet Earth. He mostly lives in Moscow, but has recently purchased a palatial home in Silicon Valley. He addressed the Ukrainian conference by video link from Singapore. From that vantage point, the most pressing issue in the world today isnt recession and politi-
cal paralysis in the West, or even the rapid development and political transformation in emerging markets, it is the technology revolution, which, in Milners view, is only getting started. Here are the changes he thinks are most significant: The Internet revolution is the fastest economic change humans have experienced, and it is accelerating. Milner said that two billion people are online today. Over the next decade, he predicts that number will more than double. The internet is not just about connecting people, it is also about connecting machines, a phenomenon Milner dubbed the Internet of things. Milner said that five billion devices are connected today. By 2020, he thinks more than 20 billion will be. Artificial intelligence is part of our daily lives, and its power is growing. Milner cited everyday examples like Amazon.coms recommendation of books based on ones we have already read and Googles constantly improving search algorithm. Finallyand Milner admitted this was a bit of a futuristic picturehe predicted the emergence of the global brain, which consists of all the humans connected to each other and to the machine and interacting in a very unique and profound way, creating an intelligence that does not belong to any single human being or computer. -By Chrystia Freeland
-blogs.reuters.com, 23 September 2011
The marriage between man and machine is coming closer with each day. This emergence of the global brain is often exhibited in television shows where the audience is polled and in overwhelming cases, is right. When this pattern is applied to the whole world, then indeed intelligence does not belong to any human individual or nation, but it belongs to planet Earth. While these things seem to be farfetched at this point in time, we know from Scripture that it will take place. We refer again to Revelation 13, where not only economy and finance are controlled, but religion as well, And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed (Revelation 13:1415). 4211

Steve Jobs was an extraordinary person with unique talents. As a college dropout,
he and his partner, with the assembly of available knowledge, produced a computer gadget that became the most beloved and admired in the world. The reason for publishing some excerpts from The Economist, 8 October 2011, is the front page, where it says in large letters, The magician: Steve Jobs and the world he created. First, he was not a magician, neither did he create anything. Steve Jobs was the right man, in the right place, at the right time, making use of available science to conceive and design electronic products. The company grew astronomically under the hedge of Steve Jobs, a dictatorial manager, as The Economist describes him. When it comes to true creation, we must quote John 1:3, All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. That only is true creation. But there is more to the article than what appears on the surface. It clearly shows that humanity is looking for a magician, someone with an extraordinary ability, who indeed can create something that will change the world. As a matter of fact, the last world genius will be celebrated globally. The Bible says that all the world wondered after the beast. Even more, not only will he be celebrated enthusiastically as the world leader, but people will go one step further, And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who
is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? (Revelation 13:4). Steve Jobs does not fit into this category because he was not a politician or a military leader. He confessed to be a simple Buddhist, who for all practical purposes believes in the eventuality of non-existence of the human soul and spirit. When the Antichrist appears, whose spirit is prevalent these days, particularly due to global communication, then the success of this one man, supported by the false prophet, will be unprecedented. The shadow of things to come is being forecast by many celebrities and politicians. The world is urging, seeking, and yearning for the coming world dic4221 tator.

dos Plus Ivica Petrushich. The cross does not fit todays multicultural Switzerland, he said. The organization of the Turkish, Albanian and other immigrants from Muslim countries followed with a similar initiative. Instead, they suggested using a green-yellowred flag of the Helvetic Republic that existed at the turn of the 18th-19th centuries. It has no cross on it. It is hardly coincidental that the issue of replacing the flag was raised by the representatives of immigrant organizations. Today, over 20 percent of the seven million-strong Swiss population is immigrants. Naturally, the Muslims will be more than others insistent on replacing the flag. There are nearly 400,000 of them (more than five percent of the population). The largest ethnic Muslim community is Albanian, followed by the Turkish one. Arabs and Bosnian Muslims also reside in Switzerland. Many of them certainly do not like the cross. The vast majority of Swiss Muslims virtually broke off with the religion of their ancestors. No more than 50 thousand of the faithful pray five times a day. However, women in headscarves have become an integral part of the cityscape of Zurich or Geneva. Furthermore, the birthrate in religious Muslim families is much higher than among the other population. Finally, all Swiss followers of Islam are not natives, but immigrants and their descendants. Their support of changing the appearance of the flag is, to say the least, ambiguous. The desire to change the flag will only add fuel to the fire. Two years ago the Muslim community wanted to attach minarets to the existing mosques. However, Switzerland is different from all other countries in a way that each more or less relevant issue is solved by holding a referendum. Negotiations with the government officials were not sufficient, and they had to ask the opinion of the population. This opinion was not in favor of the Muslim immigrants. Unlike neighboring France and Germany, the Swiss society is rather conservative. While there is no case of absolute religiousness of the Swiss society, the number of believers in Switzerland is higher than in the neighboring countries. This can be partially explained by a high proportion of rural population scattered along numerous mountain valleys in

The answer is not to build walls around the US to isolate ourselves from our growing export opportunities with Chinaespecially given the continued difficulties facing the US economy, Ennis said in a statement. US exports to China in 2010 were a little more than $90 billion, up 32 percent from the previous year. China remains the third-largest export market for US goods, after Canada and Mexico, and has been the fastest growing market for US goods over the past decade.

Only a few decades ago, communist China was considered a third-world country with virtual no potential of challenging any nation except their neighbors. Today, the situation has change dramatically. Communist China has become the worlds largest exporter by displacing Germany in 2009. The Chinese economy is one of the fastest growing in the world, so the potential of becoming number one is now realistic. Most significant is that China is amassing mind-boggling foreign reserve currencies, empowering them with the leverage to upset the US and European economies at will. What does this all mean? First of all, warfare is virtually out of the question because of the deeply interlocking economic and financial transactions. But the most important thing to understand relating to prophecy is the fact of

Called by the CGIL union, the eighthour strike against a fresh 45.5 billion austerity package hit both public and private sector operations, shutting down transport throughout much of the country and grounding planes. Some 3 million workers stayed off the job, with Rome seeing an estimated 70,000-strong mobilization. Around 35,000 Ryanair passengers were hit by the cancellation of 200 flights. Meanwhile, as markets continue to be spooked by divisions in Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconis government, the Italian leader announced that the austerity measures, introduced by emergency decree but requiring parliamentary endorsement, are to be put to a vote of confidence in the Senate. Italys strike came as it emerged that Germanys European commissioner, Guenter Oettinger, lashed out at Rome for its misrule. Speaking to a meeting of German business associations in Berlin, the commissioner had acted irresponsibly and had duped the European Central Bank into buying its bonds. Separately in Spain, thousands of workers marched through Madrid against the countrys own austerity measures and a change to the
While all things seemed to be going well for a while, the overborrowing and overspending by Greece surfaced in 2008 and is now affecting other nations as well. We note the word spooked is used in this article as in previous ones. Something is going on that cannot be defined by simple mathematics, nor by sophisticated economic and financial experts. When one reads and hears the news media tip-toeing in the dark, it becomes evident that higher powers are at work. Here we are reminded of Ephesians 6:12, For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Who are these principalities, powers, rulers, and spiritual wickedness in high places? They are the dominating factor of all unbelievers; they serve one end, These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast (Revelation 17:13). The commotion demonstrated by public protest and strikes will lead to a resolution, and ultimately the nations of the world will unite under the auspices of the god of this world, 4194 Lucifer.

They showperhaps appropriately for the occasionthe collision of two galaxies known as the Antennae Galaxies. These colossal collections of stars can be seen using optical telescopes, such as the Hubble Space Telescope. But Alma, which gathers light that is not visible to the eye, is able to pick out clouds of dense cold gas from which new stars form. Alma observes light at millimeter and submillimeter wavelengths. It is at these wavelengths that astronomers can make out the swirling gas that came together in the very early Universe, more than 13 billion years ago, to form the very first stars to shine in the Universe. Cosmologists have their theories of what happened at this time. Now, astronomers will be able to literally see for themselves whether these theories are correct.

clusively to a living body. You mentioned 1 Corinthians 6:19, What? Know you not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which you have of God, and you are not your own? This refers to LIVING for Christ, not a dead body. I think you have failed to rightly understand the Word! You sloughed over the expenses of burial as though they didnt matter. I think it matters if a person, being a steward of funds God has graciously permitted him to have, goes into debt, making payments which could be used to reach out to the living, who need Christ. What you are expressing is personal choice, not Bible doctrine. That burial was used for some people is not necessarily the example for others. If God condemned the burning of bodies because of personal choice, he would have stated it plainly without any qualifications.
the biblical method of disposing of the body of the saint. Thats enough reason for me to follow that example. Besides, Cremation was virtually never practiced until in recent years when Hinduism and Buddhism have flooded the European world (West). Virtually all correspondence relating to Cremation emphasized the financial burden. Here is my testimony: My wife Ruth and I and family agree that we should be buriedthe simplest way. The so-called green burial lists the cost as follows: $300 casket; $200 body transport; $800 for plot, opening and closing. That, you will agree, is significantly less costly than Cremation. We are fully aware of the controversy surrounding this issue, but sense strongly that Bible truths must be proclaimed. Cremation is not an option, according to Scripture.
Answer: The Bible neither mentions Islam nor refers to an anti-Allah or antiMuhammad, but clearly reveals a false Christ, a false gospel, and a false spirit. When we take these facts seriously, then we must come to the conclusion that Churchianity is the greatest danger for the true Church. The tract in question is not my opinion, but cites Scriptures clearly revealing
Why Pro-Israel? Dear Mr. Froese, I especially enjoy the Letters to the Editor section of Midnight Call. Regarding the United States, God and Israel: I cant for the life of me understand the thinking, not only of those who write to Midnight Call, but of TV teachers and evangelists who want people to help Israel against Iraq and the Palestinians. Or those who say God will punish United States for not helping Israelwhen God is orchestrating the whole thing. No one can help Israel as a nation. Jesus Christ said your house is left to you desolate (Matthew 23:3739). Yes, one day God will punish the nations who go against Israel, but He intends to take care of Is-
rael first. Woe unto you that desire the day of the Lord! To what end is it for you? The day of the Lord is darkness, and not light (Amos 5:18). There are so many Scriptures that warn Israel. One that is very clear is yet have you not returned unto mePrepare to meet thy God, O Israel (Amos 4:1112). Why is God bringing seven years of trouble to the whole earth? Because of Israel! (Micah 1:5). God today deals with individuals in Israel and anyone else the same way; they can escape Jacobs trouble by the blood of Christ. As a nation, Israel is going down, and God is doing it. World nations are only pawns. Remember what Jesus said to Pilate concerning the power he thought he had. I rarely watch the mainstream TV evangelists and teachers any more. I suppose they mean well, but I feel like Omar Khayyam who said, and I quote loosely from memory, time with saints and sages I have spent, and always, went out by the same door as in I went. I dont know what those men are thinking. I personally teach prophecy to a small adult group of various ages, each Sundayand have learned so muchnot because Im intelligent, but because I can read.

LE T T E R S TO TH E E DITOR
Many theologians base their political/religious idea on Genesis 12:3: I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee. This promise is not collective, but individual, and valid today just as it was during Abrahams time. Haman, for example, cursed Israel and he was cursed. Ruth, on the other hand, blessed Israel and was blessed. Take Germany, for example. A country that committed the most horrendous crime in human history, allowing six million Jews to be slaughtered yet today, they are the envy of the world. Also, the Soviet Union was first to sell weapons to the Jews to defend themselves, while America had an arms embargo in place. Plus, the USSR was first to recognize Israel as a State, 17 May 1948. Yet, the USSR ceased to exist! Indeed, Israel will experience Jacobs trouble, but you need to read the rest of the verse, but he shall be saved out of it. I think it to be an error assuming that promises relating to Israel will only be fulfilled in the future. Read carefully Ezekiel 36, and you will notice that God prepares first the land for the people. Why? Because verse 8 says, for they are at hand to come. Then in verse 26, God promised the Jews a new heartand a new spirit. That is happening in our days. Jews that allowed themselves to be mistreated, persecuted, and killed throughout the millennia now stand up for themselvesand woe unto anyone touching Israel! Thats the new heart and new spirit. But thats not all.Verse 27 reads,And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them (Ezekiel 36:27).That will be Israels collective conversion; they will be His people.
Take note of the ending of most of the Minor Prophets; Zephaniah, for example, At that time will I bring you again, even in the time that I gather you: for I will make you a name and a praise among all people of the earth, when I turn back your captivity before your eyes, saith the LORD (3:20).
Conspiracies Dear Midnight Call, I am a subscriber to the Midnight Call magazine, which my husband and I have enjoyed for several years. However, I was disturbed by the series dealing with conspiracies by Johannes Pflaum, because I fear many are ignorant of the lies believed by the American people in general, and by Christians in particular, which are harmful to truth during these times. While ignorance may be bliss, watchfulness and truth are necessary in these times more so than ever before. There are conspiracies within conspiracies being carried out in the world, and being an end time biblical and cultural researcher, I am well aware of the ignorance under which people are laboring today. This lack of knowledge is allowing the great majority of Christians to be misled and deceived, and it is going on right in the church. There are many bizarre and strange plans which will take Christians by complete surprise if they are not made knowledgeable. Please read a rather tame article on this matter by the awardwinning Christian film developer, Christian J. Pinto, at http://www.
adullamfilms.com/conspiracy theories.html. Please look around his site at his films, and you may get a glimpse of what I mean. There are many watchman ministries which try to present the strange and deadly truths of our modern age. Mr. Pflaum is woefully unaware of the many deceits and deceptions Christians will be made to facewhether or not they are informed. One of the most effective tools used by the evil ones who live and act in secrecy today, is to label those who expose them as conspirators. It works beautifully because it is a satanic deception used to hide the many aspects of his agenda and those who fulfill it. I remain a committed subscriber and pray for all of the Christian ministries as we make our way through the shoals of these days. May God continue to richly bless you.

Answer: Unfortunately, you have not given specific details that would identify Brother Pflaum being woefully unaware of the many deceits and deceptions Christians will be made to face. Midnight Calls task is to proclaim the entire Bible as the unfailing and eternal written Word of God; to call people to Christ, proclaim that He will come again, prepare Christians for His coming, and uphold the faith by warning of false doctrines. That is what Bro. Pflaum has done in several articles. He lists the names of people and ministries that are attempting to deceive the Church with their conspiracy doc-

Prophecy and Islam Dear Arno, First, I appreciate, follow and support Midnight Call! I am a little perplexed that your stance on end times is that democracy will take over the world, and you really dont seem to allow room for the role Islam may play. Ive read Walid Shoebats book and heard him speak, and I find it interesting because he does offer an Easterners (and ex-Muslims) perspective on end times prophecy. He makes some very good points. First, it sounds like the Mahdi in Islam reads like the Antichrist of the
Bible. A few other points to ponder: regarding the peoples/nations that the Bible says Jesus will defeat upon His returnarent they all Muslim? If Islam is not to play a role, then why is that? The Word talks about those beheaded during the Tribulationthe Western world doesnt behead people, but Islam does. Rome had an Eastern half of its empire I have heard that the ethnicity of the soldiers who made up the contingent that destroyed Jerusalem were actually of Arab descent, so from the Eastern half. If so, shouldnt that be factored into discussions about who the people are who make up the revived Roman Empire? There were certainly many other good points Walid made in his book (Gods War on Terror) that should warrant some thought and discussion. Lastly, I just started reading the book you sent me and you point out that the Muslim uprisings are going to lead them to become part of the world democracybut actually, it looks like the Western world is helping the most radical element of Islam (Muslim Brotherhood) take over the countries like Egypt and Libya, so leading them even further away from democracy. Plus, with all of the financial chaos going on in the Western world, a devastating attack on the US (e.g., a nuclear bomb being detonated over the US, knocking out much of the electronics and electrical grid, putting us back into the 19th
century) could greatly alter the world scene. The same thing for Europe. It just seems like one of the great deceptions going on right now is regarding Islam and how most of the world is asleep concerning its dangers and seems to overly defend against even any criticism of Islam. Lastly, I read where China is building up its military while growing its economic power. If the Western world continues to falter, why would China pursue democracy when they see a chance to become dominant? Ive always held the view that the Roman Empire would revive in the last daysbut two things: Again, a part of the Roman Empire was the Eastern half that today are mostly Muslim people. The Western world is greatly faltering, which is certainly paving the way for a world leader to step forward with all of the answers, but I just dont see how one can discount Islam playing a big role in the end. Anyway, if you have the time, I would appreciate your thoughts. Thank you and God Bless!

Answer: Second Corinthians 11 speaks of another Jesusanother spiritanother gospelfalse apostlestransformed as the ministers of righteousness. That is the greatest diabolical danger in our times. The radical element within Churchianity is really the great deception going on right now. As mentioned in my book, if the radical Islamist had the power to harm the European world (West), he surely

would have done it long ago.The truth is, they are powerless; they have no chance; they dont have a future. Should they be successful here and there in perpetrating a terrorist attack within the European world, it would at most be an exception. Yet, American Christianity has swallowed the Islam danger hook, line and sinker. Relating to China, in the October 2011 issue of Foreign Policy magazine, this statement appeared on page 55: Since Chairman Maos death, China has been hands down the most peaceful great power of its time. Chinas military hasnt fired a single shot in battle in 25 years. About Walid Shoebat, Wikipedia points to many unanswered questions regarding his claims in his book. Read it for yourself: http://en.wikipedia.org/ wiki/Walid_Shoebat It seems that our nation continues to be intoxicated with perpetual selfapplause, thus being incapable of acknowledging objective truths. Unfortunately, that applies to the Church as well.
The Sabbath, the Law and Nuclear War Dear Midnight Call, God spoke His unilateral Covenant of Ten Commandments from Mt. Sinai (Horeb, Deuteronomy 5:2). And He added no more (Deuteronomy 5:22). NOTE: This Covenant is NOT a bilateral Covenantit is unilateral. The Ten Commandments are the standards of the first Covenant given to the Israelites, and this Covenant was not given to any other people or any person before the Israelites not even their forefathers (Deuteronomy 5:3).
38
MIDNIGHT CALL
The weekly Sabbath was a special day for the Israelites! Think carefully why it was placed in the position of the Ten Commandments that it is. The Sabbath bound the entire nation of Israel together as a unit as long as the demands of the Ten were kept! The Sabbath was a sign to the Israelites and demanded two extra lambs to be sacrificed along with the regular daily sacrifice (Exodus 31:12-18; Numbers 28:9-10; Deuteronomy 5:15). The weekly Sabbath in the Ten Commandments required two extra sacrificial lambs along with the regular daily sacrifice. Do the Sabbath keepers keep up with their animal sacrificing (Numbers 28:910)? The reason the Israelites were to keep the seventh day Sabbath was to honor God for their deliverance from Egyptthis applied only to the Israelites so they could remain in the land of Canaan (Deuteronomy 5:15). We have to remove the veil from our hearts by removing that old Ten Commandment Covenant. Then and only then will the glory of Jesus shine unto us so that we can understand His Gospel and walk with Him in His TRUTH. We are living in devastating times with all manner of crime and corruption. Most all people know the devastation that is coming down on us, even those that are committing the wrongs. The disobdient know the wrongs committed are destructive, but they keep right on with their sins. Yet, our people
will not turn to the Christ in truth for peace and blessedness. Most every day the news brings out one nation or another maintaining a nuclear warhead on the nose of a missile. Anyone watching the explosion of such a bomb and seeing the terrible heat and destruction of it knows it is nothing to play with. It has been reported that China has come up with such a missile that can hit any warship we have anywhere in the ocean. There are sixty of our missiles in Pakistan that the Muslim Taliban are trying to get control of. Can you picture what sixty warhead missiles can do? And too, all these nations have equipment to detect the instant a missile is set off and where it is heading. Now, if a nation such as China or North Korea set off missiles heading to our nation, you can bank on our nation to retaliate before their missiles can land. And, the same with other nations. Can you now picture the sky on fire and the elements of the earth melting with fervent heat?
-R. Meier, CO
Answer: Your statement, The Sinai Covenant was made null and void when Jesus established His New Covenant, is biblically correct. Hebrews 8:13 confirms,In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away. However, the Ten Commandments are the Word of God, and the Word of God is eternally valid. But the law does not relate directly to salvation. Of course,
Healing Ministries Dear Brothers in Christ, Norbert Lieths article in the September Midnight Call about healing makes me think that he has an idea that all healing ministries are based on unfounded doctrine. The overboard, foolish behavior of some Christians toward healing is not the proof that healing isnt part of the atonement. Neither is the fact that all Christians are not healed of all diseases a proof. Indeed, all Israel wasnt healed even under
Jesus, either. Those that came to Him by faith were healed. Even some in His hometown werent healed because they doubted. I have pastored a faith-healing, charismatic church for nearly 25 years. I cant speak for others, but I believe that the Cross is the foundation of all belief in receiving healing by faith. That doesnt mean that healing is automatic because of the Cross, but like salvation, it begins there. Just as it is true that salvation is entered into by faith in the redemptive work of Jesus, so is healing. Salvation is a one-time event because we are dead in our trespasses once, then redeemed as long as we remain in faith. The difference with healing is that we get sick more than once; therefore, we need to apply our faith each time to receive healing. The inability of a believer in Christ to appropriate healing grace in any one event of sickness is not proof that healing isnt available at all. After all, salvation is offered to all, but few find it. Can we then make the assumption that salvation really isnt offered at the Cross just because many dont receive it? I realize that you are obviously cessationists, but it doesnt stop me from appreciating the fact that we share a love for looking for the Rapture from an end-time perspective. In this we certainly can share unity in the Spirit, as Marcel Malgo wrote of in that same issue. Remember, there are many reconstructionists who think we are
the crazy ones for believing in a pre-trib Rapture. I know that Im not going to convince you out of your cessationism, any more than you would me of my charismaticism, only to rejoice that well all see clearly then!
-J. Jaehrling, OR
Answer: The article in question targets the misinterpretation of physical healing for Christians, as indicated by the introduction. In that case, parents were found guilty of manslaughter because they refused medical aid for their child. Norbert Lieth clearly stated, We believe also that God does miracles today and heals people. That God can and does is not the question; the issue is misuse and misinterpretation of Scripture. I find it quite interesting that Jesus stated we will do greater works. Obviously, it is the preaching and the testimony of believers, which results in the conversion and rebirth of a listenerthat qualifies as greater works. After all, the people Jesus healed all died. Also, the people healed in your services will sooner or later succumb to an illness and die as well. First Peter 2:24 actually answers Isaiah 53:5: Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. This speaks of SIN. Note, it is written in the past tenseit is done; we are perfected in Him for all eternity, but our body will deteriorate until it loses all vital functions and dies. I appreciate your kind spirit, particularly the conclusion, only to rejoice that we will all see clearly, then! MC

What John Calvin and his early followers of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries actually believed and practiced
Although there are disputed variations of the Calvinist doctrine, among its chief proponents (whom we quote extensively in context) there is general agreement on certain core beliefs. Many evangelicals who think they are Calvinist will be surprised to learn of Calvins belief in salvation through infant baptism, and of his grossly un-Christian behavior, at times, as the Protestant Pope of Geneva, Switzerland. Most shocking of all, however, is Calvinisms misrepresentation of God who is love. It is our prayer that this volume will enable readers to examine more carefully the vital issues involved and to follow Gods Holy Wordnot man.

The journey begins with Abraham on his way to Canaan; it continues with the Israelites wandering toward the Promised Land; it includes the glorious Temple, as well as the life of Christ in the days before His passion; it chronicles the stone prophecies in the book of Acts; and it culminates with Messiahs return in glory. Along the way, readers will joyfully find themselves identifying with the biblical characters, pondering how they would have responded if they themselves were living in Bible times. Like a skilled tour guide, Dr. Harris brings the Scripture to life in a way that insightfully weds biblical exegesis, Christ-centered theology, and practical application. from the foreword by John MacArthur
The Darkness and the Glory: His Cup and the Glory from Gethsemane to the Ascension
The Darkness and the Glory examines the cross from Christs perspective and provides a compelling behind-the-scenes look at the profound spiritual and theological realities of Calvaryrealities that transcend the physical, as the wrath of man was surpassed by both the wrath of Satan and ultimately the wrath of God. With theological acumen and pastoral insight, Greg Harris invites readers to join him on a journey to the cross they will never forget. Doctrinally sound yet warmly devotional, this Christ-centered book is highly recommended to all who desire a better understanding of the glories of the cross. (Adapted from the Foreword by John MacArthur)

COMFORT ISRAEL
t was in 1973 when Egypt and Syria attacked Israel on the most holy day, Yom Kippur. During that war, thousands of Israeli soldiers lost their lives, and many more were injured and scarred for life. About 202 aircraft were shot down, with 400 tanks destroyed. That was Israels most horrific catastrophe. After the war, the late Dr. Wim Malgo, Founder of Midnight Call Ministries, launched the Action for Israel campaign. The purpose was to comfort and assist, with the gifts and prayers of Christians, those who lost loved ones. Action for Israel sponsored the construction of hospitals and readily supplied depleted medical equipment. Although the original intention was to comfort Israel with a symbolic, one-time grant of one million dollars, that beginning has caused thousands of Christians all over the world to continue supporting Israel with prayer and gifts until this day. The uniqueness of this Action for Israel fund consists of the fact that 100 percent goes toward the benefit of Israel. Now, after 38 years, our commitment to Israel continues: we give, pray and stand with Israel.

ious needs within the nation. Thus, Fredi and Beate Winkler know best where and when funds received from overseas should be distributedto help, comfort and stand with the people of Israel. Hotel Beth Shalom The Living Church in the Land of Israel Israel is a Jewish state. It was founded with the distinct purpose in mind of providing a homeland for Jews from anywhere in the world. Among these immigrants, there are many truly born again Christians. The good news is, according to reliable reports, believers in Jesus Christ are increasing throughout the land of Israel. Although freedom of religion is the law of the land, there are a number of religious groups that do everything in their power to resist the proclamation of the gospel. That issue has become one of the major motivating factors to assist Israel, particularly those of the family of faith. To the Household of Faith We are instructed in Galatians 6:10 to be generous, to do good, especially to believers in Christ, As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith. Today, it is more important than ever to stand with Israel in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. While direct persecution of Christians is rare in the land of Israel, it happens occa-
sionally, nevertheless. Thats why we as Christians should do our utmost to assist our brethren in their stand for the testimony of Jesus Christ, the Messiah of Israel and the Savior of the world. The Biblical Way to Support the Jews and Israel During Pauls time, the saints in Jerusalem were suffering persecution. As a result, many Christians had little chance to support their families and became poor. Thus, the churches in Macedonia and Achaia collected an offering for the brethren. Romans 15:26 reports, For it hath pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem. From the Saints to the Saints While there are many good and effective organizations which help Israel with their funds, we urge true Christians to do it the biblical wayfrom saints in the Diaspora (outside Israel) to the saints in Jerusalem, that is, Israel. While we have the liberty to send our support to Israel through any avenue we may choose, we cannot deny that the proper biblical way is from the saints to the saints. Any and all gifts received and passed on are given in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.
