accompanies and marks the entire life of a man. Thus, Job says, Man that is born of a woman is of few days and full of trouble (14:1). Seen purely physically, it is our heart that is in incessant unrest. Just as the unrest of a clock is in continuous motion and keeps the clock running as pace setter and running regulator, so our heart ensures that we remain alive. At some time in the futureif we do not first take part in the Rapturethe heart of every one of us will stand still and we will enter eternal rest (cf. Hebrews 4 and Revelation 14:13). After all, we know what the Bible says, My time is in Your hands. It is reserved only to the eternal God to determine this period of time. Then He as it were stops the unrest of our clock and stops the pace setter of our life, the heart. When the Bible speaks of the heart, the human organ, this physical heart which keeps our blood circulation in motion, is hardly ever meant. Rather, the Bible means with it the seat of our personality, the origin of our thoughts and feelings; in brief, our
Unrest; this is what the little building part (balance) of a mechanical clock calls itself. It serves as the regulator of the running of small clocks, in particular wristwatches and pocket watches. The precursor of the unrest was the restless part. As the board of directors of the ministry, we are accustomed to meet regularly, first of all for common prayer, but then also to deal with pending questions and problems. Above all we are concerned that the work goes forward and does not suffer a standstill. Now if one or even several members of our board are away traveling, it usually becomes very quiet among us who are left behind. Thus, recently one of us remarked when all of us met again, Now the unrest is back again. Involuntarily, I had to think of the unrest of the clock. Without this element, which is in constant motion, nothing runs; the clock stands still. In the Bible, the unrest is identified in various ways as that which

soul and our spirit. Our Lord Jesus says in Matthew 15:19: For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts. In Matthew 9:4, Jesus looks into the heart of the teachers of the law: And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts? There, the question arises: what comes out of our hearts? Are we spreading a negative unrest? Are we a source of unrest? Is our heart full of destructive and evil thoughts? Or is our heart filled with the great passion: all for Jesus, to do all that we can to bring others in contact with Him, to do everything to spread His message? God has not promised us a quiet journey, but a sure arrival! God wants to fill our heart with godly unrest. He sets the pace so that we keep in step with Him. He wants us not to live on without doing anything, but to be active for Him. What motivates our hearts? For Gods children, there is no retirement. Our Lord Jesus often demonstrated an intense activity. Yes, sometimes He became rather restless and even very energetic. But it was a godly unrest. So we read for example in Mark 6:45: And straightway He constrained His disciples. His disciples may have found this uncomfortable. And perhaps they thought within themselves, Lord, why such unrest? In John 2, our Lord showed Himself from yet a much more energetic side when He began to cleanse the temple: And when he had made a scourge of small cords, He drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers money, and overthrew the tables (verse 15). In Matthew 10:34, Jesus then declares Himself: Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. Our Lord Jesus walked this restless way quite consciously and consistently, and when necessary, He took drastic measures. How is it with us? Do we still have the courage to step out for the cause of the Lord, even when this disturbs our rest? MC

When Jesus Christ died on the cross at Calvary, the greatest work that ever took place on this earth was accomplished. This work was so infinite, and above all so very hard, that it weighed heavily upon our Lord, even beforehand.
ohn 19:28-30 reports, After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. We could sum up the last words of our Lord, It is finished with It is accomplished or It is over. Let us contemplate on these three related expressions.
It is finished; the work is accomplished! When Jesus

Christ died on the cross at Calvary, the greatest work that ever took place on this earth was accomplished. This work was so infinite, and above all so very hard, that it weighed heavily upon our Lord, even beforehand. When He still had the whole path of suffering before Him, He spoke the moving words, I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled? But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished (Luke 12:49-50). The NIV translates this more clearly as follows, I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! But I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is completed! We should never make the mistake of thinking that it was a small thing for the Son of God to begin this great work of redemption here on earth, or far less to finish it! When He spoke of the grain of wheat that had to die in the earth, He said openly, Now is my soul troubled (John 12:27). Is it surprising that He spoke such words? Even before the cross, He had to suffer unspeakably. The battle in the Garden of Gethsemane cost our Lord sweat, tears and even drops of blood. Such agony came over Him there that He was literally in fear of death. Think of His conviction and all that they did to Him. He had to endure a terrible Roman flogging, such as some men did not survive. A scarlet robe was put on His bleeding back, and a crown of thorns was placed on His head. This would hardly have been put there gently, but with force, so that the blood ran down His face. They hit Him on the head with a reed, so that the thorns penetrated deeper and deeper. And then came the actual act, the cross. This cross was so terrible, the darkness so great, the pain so awful, the thirst so unbearable that the heart of the martyred Lamb of God cried to the Father, But you, O Lord, be not far off; O my Strength, come quickly to help me. Deliver my life from the sword, my precious life from the power of the dogs. Rescue me from the mouth of the lions; save me from the horns of the wild oxen (Psalm 22:19-21, quoting again from the NIV). Psalm 22 is the prophetic p\salm of suffering, which portrays this heartfelt cry of the Lamb of God for us. It was not that our Lord lost His nerve at any time, however, and wanted to avoid this path of suffering. In John 12:27-28 He declared, Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour. Father, glorify thy name. Our Lord did not want to avoid this path at any time; on the contrary, He wanted to finish the work! The path of suffering was infinitely hard, but He trod this path to His death on the cross and could say from the bottom of His heart, It is finished! Yes, it is finished, once and for all. It cost Him enormously, but He finished the work.

It is finished! Without atonement, we could never have called God Abba, Father (Romans 8:15). We could never have accomplished this task ourselves, for to a holy God, atoning for sin means death.
It is finished; the task is completed! With the death of Jesus on the cross at Calvary, the greatest task that was ever given to a person was completed. Our Lord died as the Son of God on the cross, but He suffered the torture of His task as man. For hour after hour He was tormented by terrible pain, in order to complete the greatest task that was ever given to a man on this earth. He was familiar with this terrible task, however, as the Son of God before the foundation of the world. Who was there before the foundation of the world? God the Father. And who else? None other than His Son, Jesus Christ. Micah says in his proclamation of the Messiah, that His going forth had been from of old, from everlasting (Micah 5:2). The NIV translates this, Out of you (Bethlehem) will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times, with a note in the margin that says, Or from days of eternity. Our Lord Jesus already existed before the foundation of the world. At that time, a deep love characterized the fellowship of the Father with the Son. In His high-priestly prayer, Jesus said Himself, Thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world (John 17:24). Before anything was created, the Father and the Son were there, united by a deep love. He who was so loved by His Father was made to be the Lamb of God. Revelation 13:8 says that He was slain from the foundation of the world. Here we are confronted with an incredibly great contrast: on the one hand, the Father loves His Son above all else. But on the other hand, it is this very Son who is chosen to be the sacrificial Lamb of God. Does a father show his love for his son in this way? Something else took place, however, before the foundation of the world, which turned the world upside down. This event had a deep connection with the infinitely hard task of Jesus Christ. Paul describes it as follows, Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christaccording as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the worldhaving predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:3-5). Before the foundation

of the world, God the Father decided, in His unfathomable love, that we human beings should also become His children. In order for this to take place, however, somebody had to complete an unspeakably hard task: atonement had to take place for the sins which we human beings would commit. Without atonement, we could never have called God Abba, Father (Romans 8:15). We could never have accomplished this task ourselves, for to a holy God, atoning for sin means death. In this way, we would never have become children of God because we would have died for our sins. So somebody had to atone for our sins who Himself was sinless, and therefore did not have to be punished for His own sins. And there was only One in heaven and earth who fulfilled this condition: the beloved, begotten Son of the Father, Jesus Christ. No wonder Peter exclaimed in joy, Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you (1 Peter 1:18-20). Before the foundation of the world, the Father loved His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. Before the foundation of the world, we were also chosen, however, to become children of God. The kingdom of the Father was prepared for us as an inheritance. And before the foundation of the world, the beloved, only-begotten Son of the Father was chosen to complete the hardest task of all time: to die as the Lamb of God on the cross of Calvaryfor us! We can only stand in awe and amazement before such a plan of salvation! How did our Lord and Savior react when He was entrusted with this task, a task which would cost Him His life in such a terrible way? His reaction was almost incredible, Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me, I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart (Psalm 40:7-8). My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work

The work is ended, the task is accomplished, the battle is over. Heaven is open to every one of us!
(John 4:34). For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me (John 6:38). How tremendous it is that the beloved Son of the Father showed such willingness to become the Lamb of God! Jesus Christ died on Calvarys cross, and thus completed the hardest task of all time. And today, we may all rejoice and testify, the task is completed; it is finished! so incomparable, is us human beings. We are His triumph! More than this, however, we are also His reward, the reward for his unspeakable pain, He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities (Isaiah 53:11). Because He travailed, He will be satisfied. He will see many people justified who have received eternal life through His death. Yes, the battle is over, the Lamb has overcome, and His reward will be great.
It is finished; the battle is over! The work is accomplished, the task is completed, and the battle of the Lamb of God is over, once and for all! What must that have meant to our Lord, when He was able to say the victorious words, It is finished!? What must it have meant to Him when His long and painful path of suffering came to an end and the battle was over? We can never fathom this with our finite understanding, but the triumph in heaven was doubtless immeasurable when the Lamb of God conquered death at Calvary. Jesus Christ Himself declared that there would be rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth (Luke 15:10). How much greater must the rejoicing have been in heaven, when the slain Lamb of God returned as the victorious hero of Calvary! We read of this triumph in the new song which the twenty-four elders sing to the praise of the Lamb of God in Revelation 5:9, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation. What was the triumph of our Lord? What is the triumph of His victory? Revelation 5:9 together with verse 10 gives us the answer, Thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; and hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth. The great triumph of our Lord, that which makes Him so glorious, so great and

with His blood? Are you a part of the reward that the Lord will receive for His unspeakable suffering? Does His death mean life for you? Please understand what took place there at Calvary: Christ died for you, for you personally. He died for you because the Father in heaven loves you so much (John 3:16). Have you already come to Jesus with your whole burden of sin? When Jesus spoke the words, It is finished! a worldwide amnesty was declared. From this moment on, every person, however sinful, however wicked they may be, can come to Jesus to receive from Him the assurance, Pardonedforever and ever! These three last words of Jesus on the cross are able to turn poor, lost and erring sinners into happy people. Are you saved for time and eternity through these three glorious words, It is finished!? Can you testify that these three words have totally turned your life around and changed it? When Jesus spoke those three words, His battle was over. Your battle, which you have been fighting for so many years, can also be over. You can find peace in the words, It is finished! Because He suffered, bled and fought for you, you may come into peace for all eternity. The work is ended, the task is accomplished, the battle is over. Heaven is open to every one of us!

World Conspiracy in Light of the Bible

What does the Bible say about world conspiracy theories? Do they belong to the prophetic Word? Read here the last in the series, Part 10.
n past articles, I have attempted to illuminate on a Biblical basis all the conspiracy theories that have spread throughout Christianity. I hope that I have made it clear that many of these theses which appear to be in accordance with prophecies concerning the Antichrist, are in reality extremely questionable, sometimes even in contradiction with the Word of God. For this reason, I would like to ask whether all these conspiracy theories and this alleged insider information are not a part of the end-times deception, which draws believers away from the only valid truth of the Scriptures and fear of God in a very subtle way. In 2 Thessalonians 2:10-11 it says, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie. We should not just apply these verses to the manifold deception of the political left. The question must be permitted, whether all the world con10

spiracy theories are not a part of this end-times deception, these strong delusions, which God Himself sends because we do not love Him and His Word above all and let that be sufficient for us. The Scriptures, the light of the prophetic Word, as it says in 2 Peter 1:19-20, must be the sole and highest measure of our judgment. Everything which is not in agreement with it or contradicts it can only be unmasked as a deception. One sign of the end times is the insecurity, fear and perplexity of mankind. The alternative to this is not in the supposed searching in the realm of the powers of darkness and the revelation of alleged conspiracies and backgrounds. This does not just discourage us as believers. The Lord Jesus talks about the earnestness of the situation and the danger of deception without holding back in Luke 21. But then He points His disciples in the direction above and says, When these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

One of the most asked prophecy questions in America by far is whether the U.S.A. is mentioned in the Bible. Given Americas influential role in the world in these last days, surely it must merit specific mention or so, most people reason. There is a wide range of opinion on this question, not to mention virtual terabytes of speculative comment and Scriptural misinterpretations.

Given the epic financial tremors in Europe, the instabilities in its Eurozone membership, and Germanys rise in financial and economic power, just what prophecies might validate this countrys current role? As might be guessed, this topic also attracts a range of opinion. In fact, it might be more correct to say that

Today, there are not a small number of groups that propound these views, causing somewhat of a groundswell among Christians; drawing them into accepting their sometimes fantastical interpretations. torical events. It takes the view of a camera that is installed as if overtop Israel and Jerusalem. In the Old Testament, this camera was expressly focused upon the live action in this general Middle Eastern area, swinging its angle of view as far east as Susa in Elam, north to Assyria and Babylon, and southwest to Egypt. The worlds major successive powers of those times, such as the Assyrians and the Romans, are only caught on this surveillance camera as they trample across Israel and Judah. They are bit actors, not even deserving their own camera installation. Later, in the New Testament, the arc of the camera widens somewhat, but not much, roving as far as Rome and more northern parts of Asia Minor. In our time today, this prophecy camera would still not have captured long glimpses of America on its footage. At best, this nation would only make few and fleeting cameo appearances in the Middle Eastminor interventions over the past century, and more recently, the incursion into Iraq. Yet today, the video camera of Bible prophecy still remains fixed to its pedestal above Israel, limiting its arc of view to the general surrounding area. It has not moved from its spot. This perspective is often overlooked by Bible readers, given that the majority of the worlds Christians (also the greater world populations and economies) lie outside the line of this cameras view. Given this dominance, we might therefore think that most of the important action in the world is in America, in

many (the emphasis here being upon the words specific mention). Without a doubt, Bible prophecy encompasses the actions (collective and individual) of all Gentile nations, among which Germany and America are likely included. Focus upon the Middle East Theatre Is Germany mentioned in Bible prophecy? To begin, we must remember that the Bible remains an Israel-centric document. As such, its prophecies deal with the generalities of the worlds geopolitical history, but only so in relation to Israel and Jesus Christ. Yes, there are indeed specific nations mentioned in end-time prophecies. However, these are all in the Middle East theatre. To provide a perspective on this issue, we here reproduce an excerpt from an earlier article series in this space (Midnight Call magazine August and September 2008, Iconic Last Days: False Images and Picture-Perfect Prophecy). [] Consider the surveillance camera. Normally, these devices point at a fixed view; others move in a regular or random arc. Yet, they remain attached to one mounting spot. So it is with the Bibles perspective of prophecy and his12

China, Europe or perhaps other wealthy or populous countries. But where do we see these countries in our prophetic videotape? The Bible at best only gives mention to these countries as either islands of the seas, the kings of the east, or perhaps Gog from the far north (Ezekiel 38), without even turning its camera in their direction. Imagine this insult to the developed, high-income countries supposedly running the world order of today. They hardly even merit mention in the final credits of Bible prophecy. Signs of Germanys Rise Lately, offshoots of the British Israelite persuasion, have been proudly proclaiming that they told you so in respect of recent gyrations in Europe. If you missed their admonitions, just what have they been saying? They see recent financial and economic tremors in Europe, as the final staging to the emergence of the power structure prophesied for the endtimes, this being the Holy Roman Empire in which Germany plays a ruling role. The economic rise of Germany in recent years, along with the advent of financial meltdowns in some of the periphery European countries, is proof-positive to them that their Bible interpretations are correct. They see Germany using its economic power to consolidate its leadership position, then to rule a new European coalition of countries. To this point, likely few prophecy scholars will disagree with these observations. The British Israelite groups, however, come to these opinions by a completely different set of beliefs. Just what is British-Israelism? In answering, we must acknowledge that there are a wide number of groups that will fall under this broad umbrella (each with some significant theological distinctions). Other names for offshoots from British Israelism include Celtic Israelism and Anglo Israelism. A later term often used is Armstrongism, named after the 20th century teachings of Herbert Armstrong of the Worldwide Church of God. However, the common foundation that distinguishes them from orthodox Christianity, is that they consider many of the Old Testament prophecies that are addressed separately to the House of Judah and the House of Israel (the ancient Northern Kingdom) as applying to the last days. In their view, the House of Judah (comprised of the tribes of Benjamin and Judah) are the Jews of today, whereas the House of Israel is represented by the lost 10 ten tribes of Israel, who in present times are discovered to exist incognito in the form of mostly northern European peoples. The 10 tribes of Israel (those that were deported and dispersed abroad by the Assyrians in the 7th century B.C.) lost their identity and were eventually also lost to antiquity. These lost Israelites then emigrated to other parts of the Middle East, the Caucasus, to Northern Europe and, importantly, England and Ireland. British Israelite groups generally view Britain as modern-day Ephraim and America as the tribe of Manasseh. Some groups go a step further, and identify the Germany of today as Assyria. Just as the lost 10 tribes supposedly ended up in Europe and America, so did the ancient Assyrians once they were vanquished by the Babylonians. Is all this plausible? British Israelism: Is It Harmful? The objective of this article is not to provide an all-points refutation of British-Israelism and its offshoots, but rather to show that the interpretations with respect to modern-day Germany

among its more prominent factions are incorrect. In our view, the 10 northern tribes were never lost. Clearly, 12 tribes of Israel are shown to exist in the Book of Revelation (Chapter 7, 12 and 21), these references applying to the future. The debate centers on whether all the Israelite tribes are represented by the Jews of today. The New Testament, which documents a time over 700 years after the Northern Kingdom of Israel was destroyed, specifically mentions the House of Israel tribe of Asher as being the ancestor of Anna the prophetess (Luke 2:36). After the breakup of the northern tribes from the southern tribes of Judah and Benjamin, at least some of the northern Hebrews, who remained faithful to the teachings of the Law, fled to the south. Therefore, the Israel of today is considered to be a blend of the House of Judah and the House of Israel. As such, the prophecy found in Ezekiel 37:1922the two houses of Israel and Judah being made into one stickhas already been fulfilled rather than will yet occur in the future. early in the 19th century. It no doubt was influenced by the much earlier academic interests in Irish Orientalism and Phoenicianism. A large number of secular treatises on these influences were written as much as a century earlier. While we are not convinced to adopt the foundational viewpoints of British Israelism, at the same time we also do not see them as being heretical. These views alone do not affect the gospel or essential doctrine. That said, a ragtag set of beliefs with respect to last-day prophecies, Sabbath-keeping, Judaical ordinances etc. can be found among them. Of course, the same could be said about the rest of Christianity. Where Is Germany? One of the more prolific churches today teaching British Israelism (more specifically, Armstrongism) is the Philadelphia Church of God (PCOG). As such, we will here focus on their statements in regard to Europe, Germany, the Holy Roman Empire and end-time prophecy. According to them, just as the 10 northern tribes of the House of Israel supposedly migrated to America and be-

came the founders of the European nations of Britain, France and others, so apparently also did the Assyrians. The Armstrongites claim that they migrated to the environs of modern-day Germany (specifically, former Prussia). As Assyrians were a war-loving, cruel people, the PCOG is sure that Germany will be the country that will rule brutally over a new Europe, this taking the form of a group of 10 kings. Recent events in Europe, of course, only add fuel to the PCOGs conviction (and boasting, we may add). Indeed, Germany, which has the largest economy of all the 17 Eurozone countries, is in a position of large influence. To the PCOG, this is all a prelude to a Fourth Reich (a revived Holy Roman Empire), a state of organization where Germany will rule over Europe. An evil strong man (Antichrist) will come from this empire, as he is said to be an Assyrian (Isaiah 10:5, Micah 5:5). Moreover, the PCOG interprets various Old Testament prophecies as revealing that Germany will in fact punish all the 10 tribe descendents, also oppressing and dominating America. Really? These views are not altogether in agreement with Bible prophecy. We observe faulty and confused interpretations on a number of levels. To begin, Bible prophecy expressly reveals that the rule of the 10 kings (a power coalition of 10 nations) emerges before the Antichrist is revealed. In other words, 10 kings come first, then the 11th who is revealed as the An-

tichrist enters the scene. Shown as a king (the Old Testaments parallel to todays rulers), he must therefore represent a country. Thus, if Germany is today to be one of the 10 kings that are to arise as a revived Roman Empire, then their leader cannot then emerge to be the Antichrist. He must be the leader of yet another country and not of the 10. How so? Daniel expressly says, there before me was another horn, a little one, which came up among the first 10 horns (Daniel 7:8). (A horn is used in the Old Testament to symbolize the sovereign power of kings.) Clearly, it is an 11th and different king (likely representing a smaller nation) who arises while the previous 10 remain in existence. At a later time, he does indeed subjugate three of them (Daniel 7:8). Germany clearly does not fit this story line. Germany already exists and it is not small. We can cite more verses that demolish the Philadelphian (PCOG) fixation with Germany, their view on a Holy Roman Empire, and interpretation of the Bibles statements on historical and endtime geopolitics. Overall, the PCOG framework with respect to both the historical and last day sequence of rulers as laid out in the

claims? Moreover, just how is it possible to name Hitler as the sixth head (which the PCOG does)? John the Revelator told us that the sixth kingdom (the Roman rulership) already existed at the time that he was writing his prophecies. And, just how is it that the PCOG determines that the 1930s to 1940s period qualifies as the time that is? If so, there must have been a second coming of John this past century which all of Christianity missed. The Bible very clearly reveals that the sixth and seventh heads, as well as the 8th king (6th through 8th kings/kingdoms mentioned in Revelation 17) are all of Roman origin. While it is possible that this 8th king could be some type of Assyrian entity, he comes out of the Roman rulership. The previous 5 kingdoms pictured in Revelation 17 (the five that are fallen) are not Roman. According to our deductions, the prior five kings that are fallen (Revelation 17:10) are Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Medo-Persia and Greece. (We plan to provide our arguments for this interpretation at a future time.) As for the sixth head, there can be no doubt about its Roman identity. Scripture then proves that the coming 7th head (the one with 10 horns, which signifies a ruling power, in this case the collective of 10 contemporaneous kings) and 8th king who emerges later as the Antichrist, are also of Roman heritage. Here we must go to Daniel 7:24, which substantiates this view. The book of Revelation, after all, fits hand in glove with the prophecies in the Book of Daniel. The ten horns are ten kings who will come from this kingdom. After

Bible, is also flawed. For example, they take an incorrect interpretation of the seven heads shown on the beast of Revelation 17. As we have outlined in the past, the 7 heads (who are also 7 kings) represent the historical lineage of the major Gentile powers that have ruled and suppressed the Hebrews. On the other hand, the group of 10 kings, which are also mentioned in Revelation 17 (and symbolized four other occasions in Scripture), exist at the same time. Whereas the kings (rulerships) that are represented by the 7 heads are consecutive (not in dominance at the same time), the 10 kings represented by the horns exist contemporaneously. Revelation 17:10 says that the 7 heads are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come. Just who are these kingdoms? Quoting the November/December issue of the Trumpet, the PCOG assigns the identity of the five fallen as follows: Justinian (A.D. 554); Charlemagne (A.D. 800); Otto the Great (A.D. 962); Charles V; and Napoleon who crowned himself emperor in 1804. Such interpretations are highly imaginative and subjective not to mention Scripturally unsound. John the Revelator wrote down the visions given to him late in the first century. Just how could the five kingdoms that had already fallen, all yet come to power in later centuries, as the PCOG

them another king will arise, different from the earlier ones. The kingdom that Daniel is referring to here is the fourth kingdom that he sees in his visionsnamely, the terrible beastthat follows the previous ram that represented Greece (see Daniel 7:7). Therefore, indeed the 10-king global power coalition will emerge from the Roman peoples. If this is so, we present this conclusion: the 10 kings cannot include Germany if it really is the modern-day Assyria, as the PCOG claims. According to Daniel 9:26, the 10 kings must be of Roman origin, not Assyrian. Crucially, consider this important point: Revelation 17:12 says that the 10 kings had not yet received a kingdom at the time of John the Revelator. This verse then disqualifies Assyria as being one of the 10 nations (and, for that matter, also modern-day Iran and Egypt). Why? They had already received a kingdom in past history. They are therefore disqualified as members of the final 10 kings. Points to Ponder We conclude as follows: indeed we believe that events today in Europe will ultimately play a factor in the emergence of the last-day, 10-king power coalition. We are not at all convinced that this will take the form of a Holy Roman Empire, one that is in complicity with the Roman Catholic Church. Revelation 17 shows the prostitute on the back of the beast that represents all 7 historic kingdoms, from Egyptian to Roman. The Roman Catholic Church hasnt been around that long. To be sure, European financial instabilities today very likely will play a role in the emergence of the next world order. However, there is no way of anticipating the various convolutions that may unfold in the interim. One should not forget that we live in a globalized world where international financial markets, politics and economies are tightly intertwined. There is no telling just what event might prove to be a catalyst for further instabilities. Geopolitical events do not occur in a vacuum. As we have shown, British Israelite perspectives on Germanys specific role in end-time prophecy are not Scriptural. Furthermore, if it is not possible to identify Germany as modern-day Assyria from Scripture, then one must question of what value such a perspective would have for Christians. Isnt the Bible the full record of what the Holy Spirit considered essential to reveal to Christians? The same Assyrians that persecuted the Hebrews (destroying the Northern Kingdom and persecuting Judah) in the Old Testament, have decamped and followed the 10 lost tribes to Europe, there to persecute and oppress the descendents of the 10 Northern tribes once again? That would mean that the 2nd head shown on the beast in Revelation 17 must be revived and come back to global dominance. This does not agree with the sequence that is shown in Scripture. Finally, the Bible does not allow us to make any specific predictions as to what countries will be involved or the timing and exact sequence of last-day events related to the emergence of the 10 kings, and nations outside the Middle Eastern theatre that are not specifically named. That said, careful study of Bible prophecy does allow us to uncover incorrect interpretations, speculations and false prophecies. As such, one should always examine the Scriptures for oneself to test all views, whether from the Philadelphia Church of God Trumpet, or Midnight Call or any other publication. MC

Amos 2:4-16 was written specifically to exhort ancient Israel, but the message of those verses also instructs modern nations. It is applicable to any nation or people that continually forsakes Gods Word and the blessing that comes with obedience to that Word, and who boasts in their own strength.

srael was chosen by God to experience Gods blessing in an entirely unique manner from any other nation (cf. Deut 2830). God demanded that the nation repent from its moral deficiencies and religious hypocrisies. Nearly forty years after Amos warned the nation of Israel, the Assyrians conquered the Northern Kingdom, and their ten tribes were lost among the Assyrian Empire. Gods people never thought they would experience such devastation. If a nation disdains the sovereignty of God, the message of Amos is far too obvious that the Lord God will indeed shatter the false hope and security of those who live independent of Him and His revealed Word (cf. 1 Thess 5:3).

Stressing the principle of moral causality (3:3-4, 8), Amos indicated that the nature of a person would be made manifest inevitably by ones manner of life. The reason for this truth is not some natural tendency; rather, it is because God is the Lord, and His will is moral.
DO WHAT IS RIGHT (3:1-15) Each warning begins with the formula, Hear this word (3:1; 4:1; 5:1). Israel surely objected to the message of Amos on the basis of their elect status. God previously delivered Israel from the land of Egypt (2:10) because He made an eternal covenant with them (cf. 2:4-5; Deut 28-30). Israel assumed because they were chosen among all the families of the earth (3:2), that they would experience Gods continued unconditional blessing and salvation in spite of their actions. Amos indicated that election demands responsibility, in addition to privilege. The prophet indicated that blessing is conditioned upon faith and obedience to the revelation of Gods will in Scripture. Election does not supersede Gods sovereignty. Amos therefore insisted upon the continual unbound sovereignty of God. The prophets message is personally relevant because both blessing and judgment are understood solely within the realms ordained by Gods grace through faith in Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all and whose rule is more absolute than Amos could have experienced.1 Stressing the principle of moral causality (3:3-4, 8), Amos indicated that the nature of a person would be made manifest inevitably by ones manner of life. The reason for this truth is not some natural tendency; rather, it is because God is the Lord, and His will is moral. Gods decree is explained in Galatians 6:7-8. Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. For he who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. Blessing and judgment are always dependent upon the continual free sovereignty of God and human responsibility.2 From a cultural perspective, the indictment against Gods people in Amos 3 is perhaps one of the sternest. The prosecution is most convicting. But they do not know how to do what is right, declares the LORD, these who hoard up violence and devastation in their citadels (3:10). The indictment is threefold. First, there was moral corruption (they do not know how to do what is right). Secondly, there was violence and devastation. Lastly, there was greed (in their citadels). Those who forget to do what is right deserve judgment, not blessing. The citadels were the storehouses of violence and devastation because the nation could no longer distinguish between good (right) and bad (wrong). Israels supposed allies were summoned not to attack or defend Israel, but to be witnesses of the great tumults within her and the oppressions in her midst (3:9). Wealth was attained through dishonest gain and by oppressing the poor, which was hidden in the citadels to keep it safe from all intruders. The nation was extravagant in its accumulation of wealth: the rich built winter and summer houseshouses of ivory and great houses without thankfulness or thought given to the Lord, but through corrupted worship (3:14; cf. 1 Kgs 12:29-33; 2 Kgs 10:29; Jer 48:13). God concluded that it was not wealth that was hidden, but violence and devastation. God was just in his judgment (cf. Ezek 45:9). He would punish Israels transgresssions (3:14), and their wealth would come to an end (3:15). Wealth is neither good nor evil. However, when people love prosperity more than God, they will find themselves embracing all sorts of evil (1 Tim 6:10; Rev 3:17-18). Those who trust in riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like the green leaf (Prov 11:28). Do not weary yourself to gain wealth, cease from your consideration of it. When you set your eyes on it, it is gone. For wealth certainly makes itself wings, like an eagle that flies toward the heavens (23:4-5). One must recognize every possession as a gift of God to be used for His glory. Deuteronomy 8:10-11 communicates a wonderful principle: When you have eaten and are satisfied,

you shall bless the LORD your God for the good land which He has given you. Beware lest you forget the LORD your God by not keeping His commandments and His ordinances and His statutes. . . . DO SEEK TO PRAISE GOD (4:1-5) Throughout the nations history, God brought various forms of punishment upon Israel to cause the people to return unto Him (4:4, 9-11). God chose Israel as an elect nation to reveal His presence and to dwell among the people (Exod 25:8). Disobedience, however, did not exempt the nation from suffering and trial (4:7, 9-11). Sin is evident when the poor are oppressed and the affluent waste time with partying, practicing boisterous religion without repentance (4:1, 4-5). Gods holiness is the assurance of His truthfulness. For this reason, He swore an oath with regard to His response to these actions. The people were doing what they loved, that is, satisfying their own interests and not giving thought with regard to God. The nation was satisfied with religious ritual, but not in accordance with knowledge (Rom 10:2). Their religion pacified the conscience, but did not result in life transformation (12:1-2). Apathy and hypocrisy were apparent. False religion is of the flesh and human, whereas true religion is of the spirit, spiritual and divine. One soothes the human spirit; the other brings on the crisis which leads to repentance. One kind adapts itself to the life and ways of the worshipper. The true kind transforms the worshipper into the image of God.3 With great blessing and privilege comes great responsibility. Such a notion was true especially for

Israel, but also for all the nations. All people are responsible for sin because God is holy; judgment is inevitable for those who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, and who live for the temporal. Israels elite would not be rewarded for riches, but for righteousness. True worship does not seek self-aggrandizement, but to praise God. The purpose of Gods discipline is repentance and true worship. For those who forsake God and ignore divine discipline, there will be an eternal judgment. A LIFE OF FAITH AND REPENTANCE William Ashley Billy Sunday was a professional outfielder in the National League from 1883 to 1891. He converted to Christianity during the 1880s, and resigned from his athletic career to pursue Christian ministry. Sunday was one of the most popular American evangelists during the early 20th century. He was a very interesting revival preacher, to say the least, and he had an unusual perspective with regard to the Christian life. Sunday was occasioned to say that it would be preferable for someone who was saved at a revival meeting to die that night and go immediately thereafter to heaven. His perspective emphasized a persons conversion to the exclusion of living a life in faith and repentance toward God. According to Titus 2:14, the believer is saved by grace through faith in Christ Jesus, who gave Himself for their redemption, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds. It is contrary to Scripture to assert that one is saved for heaven only. There is fruitful labor to be accomplished in the present life (cf. 2 Cor 4:18; Phil 1:122:13; Col 3:1-4). It is

a biblical priority to bear fruits in keeping with repentance (Luke 3:8). Many of the people in Amos day were living similar to the perspective of Billy Sunday. They believed that their religious festivals, holy days, and worship were the priority of life. God, however, was angry with the people, not because they refused to worship in the Temple regularly, but because their actions were not consistent with their profession of faith in Him. Amos corrected the mistaken perspective that religion is the priority of life, without regard for a transformed life that is acceptable to God (Rom 12:1-2). (4:6-13) According to 4:1-5, the people loved to worship so they could flaunt their social status, and did so through meaningless religiosity. The women, in particular, were declared to be cows of Bashan, who insisted that their husbands bring them ample drink and other luxuries for their partying, even if the poor were oppressed in the pursuit for such pleasures (4:1-3). God was no longer the priority of the worship (4:3-5). Although the people were loyal to their traditions, Amos shocked them by revealing their separation from God. Worship (or religion) that ignores the existence of the one true God or His revealed Word is false. The people had forsaken and rejected God in their worship, and ignored the Lords discipline of the nation; consequently, the nation must either repent or perish. Amos demonstrated that disaster will overtake the nation if the poor are abused, time is wasted with partying, and religion is outrageous and without both faith and repentance. Although the nation was chosen by God to reveal His presence and for Him to dwell among them (Exod 25:8), this did not make the nation exempt from difficulties and sufferings if they disobeyed the Lord God. Several catastrophes were brought by God to cause His people to return to Him (4:7, 9, 10). Regardless of Gods warning, the people did not return (Heb. shub) to the Lord by turning from their sins. Therefore, the Lord would discipline the nation, according to 3:11-15. A LIFE OF JUSTICE (5:1-27) Israel confessed faith in God with her lips, but demonstrated disdain toward him through her idolatry and injustices. The nation was proficient in maintaining an outward appearance by performing many of the divine requirements. They celebrated feast days and joined together in solemn assemblies, and brought burnt and peace offerings to the Temple (5:21-23). The nation, however, was inundated with corruption and injustice (5:12); therefore, God hated and despised the religious rituals (5:21). Gods response was that the nation would reap what they had sown (5:11; cf. Gal 6:7). The essential meaning of justice is agreement with a standard by which right and wrong may be measured. In the Old Testament, the standard was Gods revealed Law. In the New Testament, the entirety of the 66 books of Scripture constitutes this standard. The Word of God is the charter for a truly just society. The emphasis of the New Testament upon a personal relationship with God does not lessen the biblical injunction to demonstrate holiness and justice in society. Justice and righteousness are not merely qualities that are related to standards of behavior, such as, what a person does or does not do. With his reflecAPRIL 2012 21

bribes and turn aside the poor in the gate (Amos 5:12). True worship is not following traditions, but seeking God in obedience. Gods concern was not for restoring appropriate forms of worship; rather, He desired the nation to restore His values for justice. God detests any worship that does not promote justice and righteousness consistently on a daily, ongoing basis. Those who truly worship God must be committed to seek good and not evil with all people. It is then that the blessing of the Lord is realized. Hate evil, love good, and establish justice in the gate! God cares very much for the heart of His people. A people or nation who rejects His values of justice and righteousness, by abandoning themselves to pleasure and wealth while oppressing others, will experience His punishment. The message of Amos demonstrated that Israel was beyond the opportunity for repentance, and therefore the nation would experience Gods discipline for living the exact opposite of Gods expectations. It is a sobering thought to desire repentance, but find that the opportunity has been lost (cf. Heb 12:17). God will fulfill His mandate for justice and righteousness, even if it means bringing the Day of the Lord as a time of darkness for His people. Gods Word is certainly relevant to exhort us to pursue true worship and authentic living through our expression of jus(493) tice and righteousness. ENDNOTES

By me kings reign, and rulers decree justice. By me princes rule, and nobles, all who judge rightly. I love those who love me; and those who diligently seek me will find me (Prov 8:12, 15-17). Amos announced Gods judgment for injustice not only against Israel, but also for all nations. Israel did not abandon the worship centersestablished by Jeroboamin violation of Gods Law. In his first letter to Timothy, the apostle Paul tells him,how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. Read here Part 4.
n 1 Timothy 1:18, Paul writes to Timothy, This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy. What charge or command is the apostle speaking of? He is referring to what he had already commanded Timothy to do: he should see that no strange doctrines were spread, that no strange influences found their way into the Church, and that the sound doctrine was preserved (verses 3-11). Then Paul continues in verse 18, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare (cf. 1 Timothy 6:12 and Jude 3). This verse is translated as follows in the NIV, Timothy, my son, I give you this instruction in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by following them you may fight the good fight. Timothy received the command to fight the good fight. He did not need to do this alone, however, or without spiritual weapons. Rather, he could undertake the great task, strengthened by the prophecies made about him. Apparently, there were prophecies concerning Timothy which he could and should claim (1 Timo-
thy 4:14 and 2 Timothy 1:6). We are no longer living today in apostolic times. The events concerning Timothy belong to the foundation of the early Church. Today, we have all the prophecies in the Scriptures, which were not completed at that time. This Word strengthens us and leads us to fight the good fight. We are simultaneously called upon to use the spiritual gifts that the Lord has given to strengthen us, and to enjoy using them. God always gives the spiritual gift needed for a task. In verse 19, Paul continues, Holding faith, and a good conscience. To fight a good fight we need, besides the word of prophecy and the use of spiritual gifts, personal faith and a good conscience. Prophecy and spiritual gifts (1 Timothy 1:18 and 4:14) come from God; faith and a good conscience are our part. Only in this way can we fight the good fight and endure. We should employ the gifts in faith and with a good conscience, and claim the promises and do in accordance with what we know in theory. Those who do not abide in the doctrine and confirm it

We ignore our conscience when we leave the pure doctrine, no longer live in accordance with it, and are indifferent to it (verse 5). They set themselves above the pure doctrine, suffered shipwreck, and finally became blasphemers. It is to be assumed that these men, in spite of their exclusion from the Church, still had influence over it and a number of followers, which made things very difficult for Paul. This is always the case. There will always be people who let themselves be deceived and join the wrong side, and make it very hard for those who are on the right side. Many expositors assume that the men mentioned spiritualized the resurrection in a Greek-philosophical way, and did not believe in a physical resurrection. This reminds us of the present-day tendency to spiritualize Israel, the Rapture, the return of Jesus in great power and glory, and the millennium of peace. It happens that Christians first begin to doubt Biblical truths, then openly question them, and finally become cynical or make a mockery of everything. They have lost their good conscience and are no longer receptive for the truth and corresponding admonitions. Paul gave these two men over to Satan, in apostolic authority, which apparently meant exclusion from the Church. He committed them to the kingdom of Satan, which lies outside the Church (cf. 1 Timothy 5:15 and 1 Corinthians 5:3-6). The aim of their exclusion was not to condemn them, but to discipline them and make them (MR1010/421) turn around.

A Black Box for All Drivers

The firm said the system would allow L its better drivers to receive cheaper premiums. The system involves the installation of a small black box into the drivers car which records how they drive. The measures include monitoring speed, braking severity, cornering and the types of roads used during certain times of day. This information is transmitted remotely to the insurers, and can also be accessed by users via a website which gives information on overall performance, warning them if they are likely to be moved to a higher premium. The point is that these sorts of devices firmly put in the hands of the driver a responsibility for driving safely. It makes you think. The information could be used to prove who was at fault in accidents, AA spokesman Ian Crowder added, but such detailed information would only be disclosed with a court order. He said the pay-how-you-drive system, which is aimed primarily at young drivers, could save customers up to 850 per year.

European Commission chief Jose Manuel Barroso has told the Chinese public that the EU will become a fullyfledged political union after the financial crisis.

If people do make history, as this deL mocratic view suggests, then two people make twice as much history as one. Since there are almost 7 billion people alive today, it follows that they are making seven times as much history as the 1 billion alive in 1811. The chart above shows a populationweighted history of the past two millennia. By this reckoning, over 28% of all the history made since the birth of Christ was made in the 20th century. Measured in years lived, the present century, which is only ten years old, is already longer than the whole of the 17th century. This century has made an even bigger contribution to economic history. Over 23% of all the goods and services made since 1AD were produced from 2001 to 2010, according to an updated version of Angus Maddisons figures.

Ahmadinejad Calls for New World Order

Irans President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has called for a new world order of justice-seeking nations, to replace the existing Western-dominated liberal status quo.
President Ahmadinejad made the reL marks at the inauguration ceremony of the 2nd International Conference on Hollywoodism and Cinema in Tehran. The Iranian chief executive stated that the worlds dominant powers deliberately bully the smaller nations, who are not in conflict with one another, thereby creating artificial problems between them. President Ahmadinejad also pointed out that this new world order needs to be all-inclusive, and not be dominated by any particular single nation. At least 48 foreign scholars from France, the US, Canada, Belgium, Greece, Spain, Tunisia, Italy, Egypt, Russia, Lebanon, Azerbaijan, Palestine and the UK took part in the conference. The event kicked off in the Iranian capital, as part of the 2012 Fair International Film Festival.

Universal Biometric Identification System in the Works

India has launched an ambitious program to fit each of its 1.2 billion residents with an Unique identification number (UID).
Each number will be tied into three pieces of biometric data: fingerprints (all ten digits), iris scans (both eyes), and a picture of the face. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will begin processing people in various locations around the country. UIDAI aims to slowly roll out the program and to ID 600 million people in the next four years! This is a mammoth program. While residents are not mandated to get a UID, a growing list of services including social welfare and even some bank accounts will soon require the identification number. If successful, this will be the first biometrically verified universal ID implemented on a national scale. India is forging new ground, drawing both fears and hopes of what a national ID number may bring with it. Ostensibly the UIDAI was formed, and the idea of UID green-lighted, to help those 440 million Indian people who were found to be below the poverty level in 2002. The nation has an extensive series of social welfare programseverything from medical support to home heating fuel subsidiesbut many of these services are ripe with corruption and bureaucratic stagnation. Many of Indias poorest citizens do not have ID cards, bank accounts, or even addresses that they can use to register for social services. Often the money for these programs ends up in the hands of middle
class families tricking the system by using false identification schemes. With the UID, India hopes to give every resident a means of accessing welfare services as well as cut down on fraud. To the UIDAI, the purpose of a national ID is to enable the government to get help to those who need it. Ultimately I wouldnt be surprised if the UID, with its biometric data, could be used as a means of payment (when linked to a bank account), or as an access key to homes and cars. Purchase a meal with your fingerprint and unlock your door with the twinkle in your eye. Similar results could be expected in other nations that adopted biometric identification systems. The UIDAI points out that the UID is just a number, not an ID card. Each Indian state will still be responsible for issuing licenses and identification cards. The actual UID number will not contain any intelligence; that is, it will not code for anything. Its only a random string of digits, making it harder for hackers to exploit the system. UIDs will be given to every resident of India, no matter their citizen status. The registration process has also been made transparent. When a resident is interviewed for the UID, they can see everything that the processor does via an outwardly facing computer screen attached to their laptop. Residents provide their name, date of birth, gender, fathers UID (if applicable), mothers UID (if applicable), and address (if applicable). Fingerprints, picture, and iris scans are collected at the same time.

Accession still needs to be ratified by the Croatian parliament and by all EU-27 parliaments before the country officially joins next year. whether to abolish the leap second. This is an extra second that is added every few years to keep time measured by atomic clocks in sync with the time based on the Earths rotation. Countries such as the United States, France and Germany want to lose the leap second, but the UK, along with China and Canada, wants it to stay. The worlds timescale, Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), is based on the time measured by atomic clocks, which use the incredibly regular vibrations in atoms to count the seconds. But these clocks are so accurate, they put our former timekeeperour planetto shame. The Earth speeds up and slows down as it spins, which means that while one rotation is one day, some days end up being a few milliseconds longer or shorter than others.
As a result, leap seconds were established in 1972 to keep the time told by atomic clocks and the Earths time in phase. Dr. Felicitas Arias, director of the time department at the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) in Paris, said: When leap seconds were defined, this was a request from maritime navigationand today maritime navigation can use other ways to access rotational time. Peter Whibberley, senior research scientist in time and frequency at the national Physical Laboratory, in Teddington, UK, said: A decision to stop using leap seconds to keep UTC aligned with mean solar time would be perhaps the most fundamental change to timekeeping for hundreds of years. For the first time, civil time worldwide would be based purely on man-made clocks and no longer tied closely to the Earths rotation. This could cause some long-term problems. Over decades, the difference between Earthbased time and atomic clock time would amount to a few minutes, but over 500 years, they would be out by an hour. Over millennia, the discrepancy would grow even more. The British Science Minister David Willetts said: The UK position is that we should stick to the current system used throughout the world. Asteroid Shield to Be Developed to Protect Earth

A new consortium of EU researchers is exploring options for dealing with an asteroid on a collision course with Earth. Plenty of ideas are already on the table, such as deflection with projectiles or explosives and using gravity to put it off course. But the projects complexity and costs are problematic.

What if a hunk of cosmic rock is out there on a collision course with Earth? An Asteroid labeled (433) Eros is rushing toward our planet on a course that will bring it relatively close, at least on a cosmic scale. On the one hand, the chunk of rockmeasuring 30 by 13 kilometers (19 by 8 by 8 miles)is approaching Earth closer than any asteroid of this size has for a long time. But on the other, it is currently following a circular path far beyond the moons orbit. Many people might shudder to think of these silent giants. But then they will go on about their daily business, forgetting all about (433) Eros and others. After all, in statistical terms, the chances of an asteroid that size hitting the Earth are still rather slim. Nevertheless, there are still some people who remain focused on this threat. Among them are Alan Harris and his colleagues at a newly formed consortium working on behalf of the European Union to develop mitigation strategies against potential cosmic killers. War in heaven is something totally different than war on earth. The Bible does not give more information except to report of the end result, And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him (verse 9). Thus, planet Earth will experience an impact of some sort coming out of 4299 heaven.

Geneva Bible... Christian Nation... Calvinism

Geneva Bible Dear Editor, I love your ministry because of my Biblical convictions, which means I am Pre-Trib, Pre-Mil, and love the Jews. I was taken aback recently when material was sent to me under your banner offering the Geneva Biblethe Bible of the Reformers. Now, I ask, why would I want the theology of the Reformers? In other words, Replacement Theology. The Reformation may have returned to the proper understanding of justification, but not ecclesiology, eschatology, or even the acknowledgement of the Positional or Identification truths as revealed by the Apostle Paul. They have absolutely no clue as to the importance of knowing the difference between the first and last Adam (1 Corinthians 15) regarding our sanctification. Why? Because the Reformers missed a great deal of biblical truth they had bad Hermeneutics. The Replacement Theology crowd sings the praises of Luther, etc. at the expense of neglecting the revelation of the Apostle Pauls inspired writings. They surely miss the admonition and warning of 2 Timothy 2:15-16. You have given me great pause about the stated doctrine of your ministry by running such an advertisement.

Answer: Thanks for calling my attention to the Geneva Bible relating to Replacement Theology. Doubtless, you have done more research than I in this matter, but we are pursuing two different targets. The Geneva Bible, like any other, is a translation from available manuscripts. What the Reformers attempted to do or not to do theologically has no direct relationship to the words translated. I am concerned about the end product. How best to translate virtually any word from one language to another is an unending debate. I have a New Testament listing 26 English language translations. Here is a sample of Matthew 1:1:

If you had a full command of the Greek language, you would quickly realize that there are innumerable ways of translating the same words, but the end result should reveal the genealogy of Jesus Christ in this case. The character of the translators is not necessarily decisive. Luther was viciously anti-Jewish in his last days. King James is listed in Wikipedia as a lover of male company, and one of the contributors of the NIV is allegedly a lesbian. And the translators of the Geneva Bible were proponents of Replacement Theology. I value the product, not the producers. The translations I use most are the KJV and Luther in German.

From that point on, all European countries (including Colonial countries South and North America, Australia, New Zealand, etc.) had incorporated to a greater or lesser extent the Christian church as the official national religion. This is in no way an attempt to change your mind in what you believe; I dont claim to speak for all Calvinists. I dont consider myself a Calvinist, but a follower of our Lord. I prefer to call Calvins tenets, Doctrines of Grace. That said, you made a statement that many opponents of Calvinism make: QUOTE: The assumption that God created billions of people on earth predestined for Hell is contrary to His statement. For God so loved the world. I believe those who are finally lost are not predestined. Predestination only pertains to those who are saved or born again. Why Israel Suffered Dear Midnight Call Ministries, Wasnt happy reading the Christmas letter that seemed to be so wise yet blamed the coming war and the suffering of the tribulation all on Israel. I started my subscription opening to that stab in the heart. When we were reading Daniel in Sunday School, prophecy became a big thing to me. I seemed to hear Gods heart cry for His land, and it touched my heart. There are, of course, three reasons God brings war to Israel, according to what I learned then: 1. to bring His people back to Himself; 2. to judge the nations hating Israel; 3. to cause the world to know He is the God of Israel. God is drawing His people to Himself, and in the seven years, revealing a people for His names sake. Are not the gates and foundations of the New Jerusalem all with Jewish names, tribes, and apostles?

Answer: We fully believe that the return of the Jews to the Promised Land and the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948 are part of Gods way of restoring Israel, with the ultimate aim of fulfilling Scriptures such as Romans 11:26,And so all Israel shall be saved. The three reasons you mentioned relating to Israels conflicts are certainly confirmed in the Bible. Unfortunately, even many evangelical Christians seem to deny that the process of preparation (about 4,000 years) is part of the fulfillment of the final prophecies. To us as believers, it is of great encouragement to see what is happening in Israel today, realizing that Israels neighbors, the Arabs, and to a larger extent, the Islamic world, oppose Bible prophecy fulfillment. However, ultimately all nations of the world are enemies of Israel. But the good news is that virtually all of the prophets end pronouncing the restoration and collective salvation of Israel.
Various Questions Dear Mr. Froese, I appreciate the variety of different subjects and writers in this magazine, and the research and information given to each article. Moses was credited with writing Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy, yet he lived 120 years and had not been alive during Genesis (Deuteronomy 34:7). 2. Once Saved, Always Saved Dear Mr. Froese, I cant even begin to thank you enough for Midnight Call. I generally read it from cover to cover. I have surely received guidance and direction from your cherished publication. May the God of Abraham be eternally praised! I am also an avid reader of Letters to the Editor. Brother Arno, you have answered many more questions for me than you could know. I do, however, have a question that hinders me. I was born and raised as an old backwoods Southern Baptist. I certainly feel blessed to have been brought up by my sweet, Jesus loving mother. Shes gone now, along with the rest of my family. It is quite often lonely and depressing being the only one of my family left. The greatest thing I could think of at this point in time is to do my absolute best at witnessing and proclaiming the Son of God that takes away the sins of the world. Brother Froese, please help me to understand something. Even though I am a devout Baptist, I do not believe in Once saved, always saved. I base my belief on 2 Peter 2:1822. Answer: Question 1: Moses knew because he was in the presence of the Lordthe Holy Spirit was the source of his memory (see John 14:26). Question 2: Not being permitted to enter the Promised Land has no relationship to spiritual realities. Moses was a person who knew God, and God knew him; thus, he was called to appear with Elijah on the Mount of Transfiguration, but not in the flesh. Question 3: From the story of the rich man and Lazarus, we realize that the condemned will see what they missed, and apparently the saved will be aware of the judgment of the condemned. It is interesting that Lazarus is not involved in the dialogue and we dont know to what extent he did realize the punishment of the rich man. The literal interpretation is applicable for the Jews who were faithful to the God of Israel; thus, they witnessed the destruction of those who had transgressed. What we do know for sure is that in heaven, there is no sadness, suffering or pain; subsequently, the punishment of the lost will in no way affect us.

Answer: The borders of the Promised Land are given in Genesis 15:18, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates. That means parts of Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, and Egypt are Promised Land territory and will one day be taken possession of by Israel. We had the intention for many years to publish a map showing the original Promised Land, according to the most reliable Jewish sources, and Israels borders today. When Light Meets Darkness

And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness (Genesis 1:3-4).
he theme for the 2012 International Prophecy Congress is When Light Meets Darkness. This Scripture introduces us to the first separation between light and darkness. The division runs all the way through Gods plan of salvation. Of the completion, we read in the last book of the Bible, And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever (Revelation 22:5). That is the Eternal Light. John emphasizes the distinct difference when he says, God is light, and in him is no darkness at all (1 John 1:5). In the first chapter of the Gospel of John, this light is identified. It is Jesus Christ the Lord, In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not (John 1:4-5). This light has appeared many times throughout the history of Israel. We recall the burning bush Moses was confronted with, or the pillar of fire Israel saw in their pilgrimage toward the Promised Land. We also recall the lighted candle in the tabernacle in the desert, and later in the Temple in Jerusalem. But all these lights were only shadows of that which was to come. Finally, in the fullness of time, Jesus exclaimed, I am the light of the world. It was the light of the Lamb of God, the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.
That is what the 2012 International Prophecy Congress is all about. In the midst of chaos, uncertainty, and insecurity the world over, there is light. Its the light of prophecy, the light that shineth in a dark place (2 Peter 1:19). That is the light our international rostrum of speakers will expound upon during the 2 days. The world, as we all know too well, lies in darkness because planet Earth is ruled by the prince of darkness. He is the great deceiver, the murderer from the beginning, the destroyer, the god of this world. It is Satan who desires to confuse those who are seeking the true light. He cunningly offers them counterfeit lights, things that seem correct, often scientifically confirmed, but in reality are not true. That is why we gather in Myrtle Beach with likeminded believers to follow our Lords admonition, Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven (Matthew 5:16). We have no other light than that which was given to us. Through Gods incomprehensible love, we have the light, the message of hope and restoration of eternal salvation. The Bible speaks of the past, the present and the future. In particular, it highlights the nation Israel and Gods plan with His chosen people. In this issue we want to highlight missionary Stephan Beitze, who is the son of Werner and Ursula Beitze, missionaries in Guatemala. The following is taken from one of his reports.
idnight Call missionaries in Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Bolivia, and Guatemala have often experienced opposition, and in some cases outright persecution. Who are these missionaries in South and Central America? Virtually all come from Europe. Most have made it their life calling. They have been integrated into the various countries where they serve. In some cases, already the third generation is actively involved in publishing the precious Word of God in that part of the world. Recently, Norbert Lieth and Jonathan Malgo flew to Bolivia where Midnight Call missionaries were celebrating 50 years of service. We plan to publish additional information about the work in a future issue of Midnight Call. When we look at the introductory Scripture, we realize Gods wonderful hand of grace. Yes, we may experience many negative things, but that is never the end. The apostle Paul then writes in verse 17, For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. May these words of comfort for all who suffer be decisive in our life here on earth, because our goal is a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.

Something unexpected recently happened. Word of Life Bible College in Guatemala invited me to lecture on two subjects. This Bible College was established two years ago. Before that time, students had to go to Argentina where Word of Life operates a larger Bible College. Because of the difficult economic situation in Guatemala, several believers got together with the idea to start their own Bible school. They now occupy a large area with a building suitable for a Bible school facility. There is sufficient room for 35 students, who have already begun to study at the school. But they had one problem: qualified teachers. Because my sister, Susana, is a member of Word of Life, I did not have much trouble agreeing to this task. A special bonus was included: the opportunity to see my family again. The subjects I teach on are: 1) The Torah (the five books of Moses), and 2) Christian Missions. It was a joy to see how the students participated eagerly. During

Our study of the Acts of the Apostles as a guideline for Gods plan for missions, as well as practical experience, contributed toward a better understanding of the mission of the Church.
Christian Missions, it turned out to be very practical. During that short time, we experienced the Lord calling some students into full time service. Many counseling sessions were also done. A 35 year old brother was unsure whether he should take the position of pastor in a local church. Then there was a 17 year old, who with his father during the weekends serves in a newly planted church in a little town where the Gospel has been strongly opposed by the locals. It is not unusual for stones to be thrown at them. Often, pressure is evident from the opposition. Another brother on his way home was shot in the abdomen by a drunken person. He scarcely clung to his life. Now he has found a place in the Bible school to reside. He strongly feels that the Lord wants to make use of him. Our study of the Acts of the Apostles as a guideline for Gods plan for missions, as well as practical experience, contributed toward a better understanding of the mission of the Church. Having grown up in Guatemala, I had to get used to the many earthquakes again. One was specifically impressive. We were in Acts 2, studying Pentecost. While reading that Scripture, we experienced another earthquake. The entire building was shaking.
That was quite a visible demonstration for this important subject. After nine days of teaching, I was able to lend a hand to my parents in the office. It is just wonderful to see the volume of literature moving out of our facility to the Guatemalans. We pray that every piece of literature: books, magazines and recordings will be blessed by the Lord. I was also happy to do some practical work for my father, who has little time to do it. Additionally, there were a number of speaking engagements in various churches, which really filled my itinerary to the utmost for that month in Guatemala. We want to mention here that many of the missionary couples sent out more than 45 or 50 years ago have made the mission field their permanent home; thus, the children and grandchildren are considered natives. That fact is obviously helpful in communicating the Gospel with the locals. This reminds us of the words found in Deuteronomy 6:7, And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And I will multiply upon you man and beast; and they shall increase and bring fruit: and I will settle you after your old estates, and will do better unto you than at your beginnings: and ye shall know that I am the LORD (Ezekiel 36:11).
Behind all the activities of the Israelis, the Arabs and the rest of the world is Gods clearly expressed intention to reestablish the nation of Israel on their original soil. The purpose is expressed in verse 27, And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. That is Israels collective salvation.
The Promised Land

When reading this verse, we must note the I will of the Lord. That is most significant because it contradicts the general opinion of the world. There are innumerable books and articles written about the founding of the State of Israel in 1948, and many historical facts are quoted. Yet, none of these mention that it is all due to Gods eternal resolution, confirmed with His I will. Verse 8 reads, But ye, O mountains of Israel, ye shall shoot forth your branches, and yield your fruit to my people of Israel; for they are at hand to come. God speaks to the topographical land of Israel (not Palestine), and tells of the needed food in preparation of the people who are at hand to come. At this point in time, it is all but impossible for Israel to take possession of the entire Promised Land: from the river of Egypt to the great River Euphrates. But that contradicts Gods clear statement in verse 10, I will multiply men upon you, all the house of Israel, even all of it: and the cities shall be inhabited, and the wastes shall be builded.

Arabs in Israel
This is one of the most hotly debated issues in the world. Arabs insist that all of the land of Israel should be incorporated into a new state called Palestine. Although the majority of the worlds nations do not agree to that plan, they do support, without exception, Israels limited possession of the Promised Land. When one follows the continuous development, the various peace treaties, dialogues, and agreements, one notices that they are all but hopeless. Many Arabs insist on Israels elimination, and Israel refuses to yield to such pressure. But in the end, whats happening in and around Israel will not change Gods eternal resolution.

Israels Future
As believers, we take notice of Gods special love for Israel. This is often overlooked within Christianity. Although it is clear that God so loved the world, Israel does have a special place because through Israel God brought forth His Son Jesus Christ, and He Himself declared, Salvation is of the Jews. That fact is not dependent on Israels condition. To Pharaoh, the Lord said, Thus said the Lord, Israel is my son, even my firstborn. Therefore, regardless of Israels condition, they will become the center of the world and the praise among all the people on Earth.

Christian Work
Missionary work is very sensitive in the land of Israel. The law, for example, prohibits teaching children about Jesus without the expressed permission of the parents. Several Christian organizations and works have been attacked by extreme, religious Jewish groups that are vehemently opposed to any missionary activity in the land of Israel. It is for this reason we do not publish names, places, or the scope of activity of Jewish believers and their work in the land of Israel. Here, we must take the advice of our Lord, Be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. We invite all of our friends and supporters to continue praying for Israel, that the Lord may hasten the fulfillment of His Word. Daniel gives us an excellent example. He writes, I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem (Daniel 9:2). Daniel understood what Jeremiah wrote: the 70 years of captivity in Babylon would end. He could have just thanked the Lord for this prophetic fact, but he does more. We suggest that you read the entire chapter. Notice how Daniel identifies himself with the sins of his people, and during that prayer, he receives an answer and an additional vision that reaches into our times and beyond. Action for Israel serves to show the love of Christ to the Jewish people in the land of Israel, demonstrating through our prayers and gifts that, for Israel, the best is yet to come.

That is why our late Founder, Dr. Wim Malgo, created the Action for Israel Fund, for the distinct purpose to bless His people and to demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ to the Jews in the land of Israel.
