SIDNEY CROSBY
I think every athlete will tell you no matter what sport you're in, when you train so hard and when you care so much about doing what you do, there's a little bit of nerves that come with that. But nerves that won't prevent you form performing, nerves that, hopefully, allow you to be that much more motivated and inspired to do well. -Sidney Crosby I think as a Canadian hockey player, you go through it in your mind so many times, being able to stand on that blue line and hear your national anthem play and being a gold medal champion, you dream of that. And then to be able to accomplish that and actually win a gold medal and represent your country its an amazing feeling. -Sidney Crosby
Sidney Crosby, born August 7, 1987 is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who is captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League. Sidney Crosby was drafted first overall draft pick by the Pittsburgh Penguins. In his first season, Sidney Crosby finished sixth in league points with 102 points and was a runner-up for the Calder Memorial Trophy. By his second season, he led the league with 120 points, to capture the Art Ross Trophy, becoming the youngest player and the only teenager to win a scoring title in any major North American sports league.
Leadership by Example
A Burning Desire to Win No Excuses Commitment to the Team A Desire to Make Everyone around Them Better Loyalty Commitment to Excellence
Crosby was appointed leader by his teammates, the reason being even though Crosby may be the younger, the smaller guy, but Crosby is shows up everyday to work. He doesn't come in and do a half a** job. Crosby knows now that his teammates look up to him for leadership, advice, and maybe just a good person. He didnt have those traits listed above Crosby would just be a regular player on the team.
MARIO LEMIEUX
Since the beginning, I always loved the game. When you grow up in Montreal, one day you want to be a professional hockey player. When I was six or seven, I knew that was what I wanted. -Mario Lemieux All I can say to the young players is, enjoy every moment of it. Just enjoy every moment of it. Your career goes by very quickly -Mario Lemieux
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND/CONTEXT/PERSONAL DETAILS Mario Lemieux, born October 5, 1965 is a Canadian professional hockey player. He played of 17 seasons with the NHL Pittsburgh Penguins. He is widely recognized to be one of the best players of all time. A talented playmaker and fast skater in spitefulness of his large size. Mario Lemieux led the penguins to two repeated Stanley Cups. Mario Lemieux is the only person to have his name on the Cup as both a player and as an owner. Lemieux led Team Canada to an Olympic gold medal in 2002. When he retired Mario his stats were: 690 goals and 1,033 assists. Pretty good.
Like every leader, from atom to the NHL, its usually your players that appoint you to be the C or the A on your team. Usually in Atom and Pee-Wee you pick you star player, but in the higher levels you would pick the best leader/role model on your team. So for Mario the team saw him to be a leader/role model. Some people thought other wise but by the end of the first he was Captain, they new they were wrong. Mario was like a player coach on the Penguins when he got older.
