Introduction

Defending your faith is not rocket science. It does not require a college education or
P.H.D in Biochemistry. You don’t need an education. There are no age restrictions.
Anyone with a mind can defend their faith.

Most Christians watch in silence as modern day intellectual’s talk about the errors in
the Bible and the evidence against God. Listening to all this information can seem
overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. You can defend your faith with a tool that
God invented many years ago. It is called…Common sense. That’s right. All you
need to defend your faith is a little common sense.

This study guide is designed to help bring out the logic of your faith. It will help you
develop evidence and confidence for what you believe. It will answer the hard
questions and give you the information you need to be successful against secular
beliefs. After completing this study you can stand in front of the big-shot
intellectuals and fire back with some simple arguments that they cannot reject.

While this journey is for everyone, it does require some work. Laziness will take you
nowhere, so take the time to learn and listen. Each week contains devotionals
which will prepare your heart and mind for the weekly lecture. The devotionals are
optional but recommended. The weekly lecture will contain fill in the blank notes.
These notes will be the heart of the study and will provide you with a future
reference to refresh your mind.

Side Effects: Common side effects include a natural repellant to professors,


academic scholars, and know-it-alls. Some have reported liberals and scholars
running and screaming with hands waving in the air. These side effects eventually
dissolved because, “The truth will set you free and if the Son set’s you free you will
be free indeed.”
Week 1
Charge!

Focus:

This week will focus on preparing you for the journey. It will prepare your heart,
mind, and life for a rock solid defense. If you are not spiritually prepared you cannot
win the battle!

Daily Prayer:

Ask God to prepare your heart, help you understand the battle, and give you a
passion to defend your faith.

Verse of the Week:

“Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were
called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses”
Boldness—Day 1
Read Acts 19:8-10

Boldness is the first step in defending our faith. Paul is a good example of boldness. Many
of the Jews did not believe that Jesus was the Messiah. In fact, the Jews were ready to kill
anyone who claimed that Jesus was the Messiah. This did not stop Paul. He went into the
center of their operations. He went to the Synagogue. For three months, Paul argued boldly.
Some of the people believed and others decided to cause a scene. The unbelievers wanted
everyone to think that Paul was wrong.

Paul’s secret was boldness. On a scale from 1-10, how would you rate your
boldness?

What is keeping you from being bold?

Maybe, you are struggling with boldness, but don’t get discouraged. Fear of failure and
worrying about what to say, seems to be common problems for most Christians. Thankfully
God gave us the Holy Spirit to help us overcome these difficult emotions. By trusting in
Christ, and forcing yourself to talk, you will find the boldness you need to overcome those
difficult emotions.

Prayer

Ask God to give you boldness and strength to defend your faith.
Satan is A Nerd—Day 2
Read Ephesians 6:10-13

Satan is a nerd. Yes, you heard me. I cannot stand the Devil. After all, he is the one
responsible for all the lies and deceptions in the world. Many times we end up fighting and
arguing against people. This is a huge mistake. We are not fighting people but powers! If
we argue against lost people, then we will become irritated with their unbelief. However, if
we fight Satan, we will be calm and patient with others during a confrontation. If we are not
calm, we will never defend our faith properly, and our chances of success will be low.

How can you fight the devil instead of people?

The secret to fighting Satan is preparation. If you are not prepared for the battle, you will
lose. You can prepare through prayer and Bible study. Without these resources you will fail.
If you find that you are impatient with unbelievers, then you should examine your heart.
Being agitated at people is an indicator that you are not fighting the enemy. When you are
fighting Satan, you will love people and desire for them to change. When you are fighting
people you will be too agitated to talk.

Prayer
Ask God to help you fight the enemy and not people. Ask God to grant you boldness and
opportunity to defend the faith.
Fight, Fright, or Flight—Day 3
Read Philippians 3:12-16

You have 3 choices in defending your faith: Fright, Flight, or Fight.

If you live in terror of what the world will think of you, or if you are afraid of how
others will respond, then you are living in fright. Fear controls many Christians, but it does
not have too.

If you are constantly running away from the opposition, or if you avoid confrontation
at all cost, then you are living in flight. Running from the battle does not make the war go
away!

There is a third option. It is a difficult path that most Christians do not travel. It is a
path of failures and success. If you leap into confrontation and try to defend your faith, then
you are fighting.

Which area describes your dealings with confrontation and why?

The Bible teaches us that we can make a difference if we fight. We will not win every fight,
but we can make a difference. Fear of failure is not an option. Run to the battlefield not
from it. Be amazed at the power of God in your life!

Prayer:
Ask God to give you the courage to fight! Ask him to help you recognize opportunities to
defend your faith.
Succeed or Die Trying—Day 4
Read Hebrews 12:1-3

Never stop running. Never stop fighting. Never stop trying. Ok, you get the message. The
biggest mistake Christians make when confronting the world is quitting. We need to reshape
our attitude. We need a new motto, “Succeed or Die Trying.” If we approached every lost
person with this attitude, there would be a multitude of new believers.

The Bible tells us 3 things we must do to win the race. See if you can find them.

First the Bible says to eliminate sin. Sin will stop any Christian in their tracks. Confess your
sin daily to overcome this obstacle. Second, it tells us to run with endurance. This means
that we continue even when it feels hopeless. Third, the Bible says we must keep our eyes
on Jesus. He is the finish line. If we can just make it to Him, then we can achieve victory.

These are the 3 secrets to endurance. Notice them again:

1) Confess: Eliminate sin.

2) Progress: Keep on Going!

3) Focus: Keep your eyes on Jesus.

Prayer
Ask God to help you continue and to never quit trying. Pray for someone who is lost today.
Ask God to help you share the Gospel with that person.
Your 1st Victory—Day 5
Read 1st Peter 1:13-16

Congratulation on you first victory! What victory you ask? You have won the victory over
yourself. By coming this far you have shown that you mean business.

What is one thing you have learned this week?

Look at everything we have learned:

Boldness: We learned boldness comes from trusting God and forcing ourselves to talk.

Satan is a Nerd: We learned the real enemy is Satan

Fright, Flight, or Fight: We learned about the 3 choices every Christian makes.

Succeed or Die Trying: We learned the 3 secrets to endurance: Confess, progress, focus.
