THOUGHTS FROM BRAD

Today we begin a new sermon series based on the Great Commission of our Lord. You can find this commission in three Biblical references. They are: Matthew 28:16-20, Mark 16:1516 and Luke 24:46-47. You might be thinking, Ive heard that before. My response to that is Good. Now lets fulfill & live it! It reminds me of a preacher who week after week spoke about the same Bible passage. The congregation grew more and more impatient to where finally one member said, Why do you keep on preaching the same sermon? To which the minister replied, When you start living out what I am preaching, then I will move on to a new subject. That kind of frankness may rub you the wrong way. The fact is, although we have heard this all before, we have obviously not responded well to what the scripture says about the Lords commission on our lives. So if you do not make a habit of inviting people to the gathering place, then it begs the question, why? Let me suggest the following. Some may say, I do not invite others to church because I only have Christian friends. My answer to that would be, Then it is time to make some new friends. Each of us must be purposeful to stay connected to unchurched people. The temptation is to become so separate from the world that we forget we were once part of the world that needed saved. Some may say, I do not invite others because I am not sure how to do that. To you I would say, Just take a few minutes to describe on paper what your life was like before knowing Jesus. Then write a description of your life today. Surely there is a big difference. After doing that, begin asking God to reveal to you someone who needs Jesus and ask Him to give you the courage to share your testimony with them. Remember, it is not your job to save anyone. Your job is simply to speak up about Jesus (plant the seed). Someone else will water that seed but God will make the seed grow. You must be faithful with what you know. Some may say, I am just unhappy with the way things are at my church. How can I invite anyone here? To you, I would suggest, Get on your knees. Ask God for forgiveness for being unfaithful. Your job is not to keep people from the gathering. In any church, there will be things that you do not agree with or appreciate. There will be things that will anger you (like this article). But that does not release you from Gods commission on your life. Regardless of whether a person chooses to attend here, you are still called to reach others for Christ. In His Service, Brad

BITS FROM BRO. DAVE

SUNDAY EVENINGS IN THE SANCTUARY: This week (1/12), as We Meet The Prophets, the study is titled, When God Came Back: Samuel (I Samuel 3:19-21). Next week we ill meet The One Man Army: Elijah (II Kings 2:913). In coming weeks, we will examine the lives and prophetic ministries of other men like Micaiah, Amos, Isaiah, Hosea and others. Why not plan to be a part of this journey each Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m. MIDWEEK BIBLE STUDIES: Due to uncertainty of our schedule we will not be resuming the Wednesday study groups for some while. Watch for later announcements. FUTURE EVENT: Mark your calendars for Senior Saints In The Smokies which will be May 26-30, 2014. If you have questions, contact me. FINAL THOUGHT: Adults would do well to exert more effort in preparing youth for the path than preparing the path for youth.

Core Values...
Values central to the life, mission and vision of Fifth Avenue Church of Christ are: Christ-Centered Worship
We make it a priority every Sunday to celebrate Jesus through our music. (Romans 11:36-12:1-2). We focus on Jesus through gracebased preaching and teaching & understand the Bible is our authority (2 Timothy 3:16).

Church Health and Biblical Balance

Church health becomes reality when God's people seek harmony & live consistently. We expect every member to protect the unity of Christ's Church. (Romans 12:16; 1 Peter 3:8)

Global Evangelism
We are constant to our founding call to worldwide evangelism, proclaiming to all that Jesus Christ is the Savior, Healer, and SoonComing King (Acts 20:27).

Fellowship and Ministry

After people begin their journey with Jesus, we will equip them to find a ministry based upon their strengths. We want everyone to serve in some capacity. (1 Corinthians 12:12-27) We also want His church to be the living evidence of His love and power to the world.

Discipleship
We do not want you to "get religion" here at Fifth Avenue Church of Christ in Lancaster. We are all about teaching you that Jesus seeks a daily relationship with Him through a life of obedience. In other words, we want to see the things you are taught actually change your lifestyle & your daily decisions.

How Can I Respond Today?

At FACC we look to the Bible for guidance on all issues. We believe that Gods Word is clear concerning what a person must do to become a Christian. Trust that Jesus can bring you to salvation. Turn (repent) from the sin in your life. Confess your desire to make Jesus the Lord of your life. Be baptized (immersed) in water for the forgiveness of sins and to receive the Holy Spirit into your life. To make this life decision for Christ, we ask that you come forward during our commitment song at the conclusion of the Sunday message. Baptized believers are welcome to become members at FACC by coming forward on Sunday morning or by seeing our Senior Minister to discuss this further. We ask that you complete a series of Curious classes to help you better understand what you are committing to as a member. If you would like to take a Curious class, please indicate this on your Silent Roll Call Card.

Social Conscience
We place high value on the sanctity of human life, of Biblical marriage and morality, and we welcome ethnic diversity (Isaiah 56:7; Philippians 2:15-16).
