-ront Panel .i#! /ain input &his is a high(sensitivity input0 %f your guitar has hot pickups2 then plugging into it makes it easy to overdrive the preamp section2 creating harmonic distortion0 Guitars e5uipped with low(output pickups seem hotter than usual when plugged into this input0 0o( /ain input &his is a low(sensitivity input0 Guitars plugged into it have more headroom "efore distortion sets in :meaning that you can crank up a channel3s volume a

little louder "efore you e.perience Preamp distortion;0 &his is a good choice for a clean overall sound2 and is especially well(suited to active pickups or guitars e5uipped with Preamps0 C!annel + 4oth channels are voiced differently2 and Channel 1 is definitely geared toward creating impressive crunch and spongy lead tones while retaining a vintage feel :think of as a great G4ritishG tone;0 Grit2 grunge2 dirt((whatever you3re looking for in the distortion department is here2 from sweet and singing to hard(driving to ma.imum sustain0 6ote7 Like the controls on all classic amps2 the &re"le2 $iddle2 and 4ass interact2 creating smooth2 musical tone changes0 ,ll three controls operate with even response throughout their ranges0 &his amp has so much potential gain and sustain2 you should not assume that the 'olume controls should "e set on a typical G1<G to start with0 /ou might try =(A as a starting point0 1olume 2(it! !annel3sele t Pull3S(it !4 ,lthough it3s la"eled G'olume2G this control does a lot more than determine how loud Channel 1 is0 %t regulates the Preamp3s volume and works with the $aster to set the level and distortion amount0 , simple rule of thum" is2 the higher the 'olume is set2 the more distortion you get0 &he push switch selects which channel is active0 %ts circuitry is designed so that you don3t hear a pop or click when the channel is changed :&he FS(8 footswitch also selects channelsH the 'olume3s pull switch can "e activated with the FS(8 plugged in or not2 "ut to control the amp from the footswitch2 keep the switch pushed in0 ;0 See info on the FS(8 and its functions0; 'ass &he GchunkG and support that form the "ack"one of your tone come from this control0 %ts effect on your overall sound will "e different at high and low volumes due to the speaker3s characteristics and how much distortion you use0 &he "ass *Q curve has "een specially tailored to complement the ma.imum "ass response of the !%'*!, ca"inet0 ,lso2 the internal speakers of the !ivera ,mplifiers have "een chosen to complement the circuitry and ca"inet si9e0 Middle &he midrange circuit provides the GmeatG that fills out your sound0 %t has a slight notch in the fre5uency spectrum at a"out AA< H92 and turning the kno" alters the depth of that notch2 letting you dramatically change the overall voicing of your tone0 Treble 1hether you3re looking for edge2 slash2 or )ust a little shimmer2 this kno"3s for you0 Like the 4ass control2 the apparent effect of the &re"le changes with the loudness and distortion you dial in0 Master 2(it! Pull 'oost s(it !4 &hink of the $aster as a sort of governor that sets the ma.imum loudness for the channel0 ,lso2 think of it as the second half of what the 'olume kno" does0 1ith the 'olume turned down and the $aster up2 there3s less distortion than if you crank up the 'olume and set the $aster lower0 &he $aster control comes after all distortion and tone(shaping on Channel 12 so its level doesn3t have a "earing on your "asic tone0 1hen you pull the 4oost switch on Channel 12 it adds a whole range of harmonics2 and not )ust gain0 &his is easy to hear "y playing a power chord and comparing its sound

with the switch pushed in and pulled out0 1ith the switch activated2 the tone "looms2 going from fat to ferocious0 C!annel , Channel is e.tremely fle.i"le2 with a flavor that "rings to mind the great classic ,merican tones and te.tures0 /ou can get some pretty impressive "lues overdrive distortion out of Channel too2 and as a rhythm channel it "rings out every su"tlety of your playing0 &he range of tones can "e anywhere from sparkling(clean to perfect for "luesy rhythm((the kind of sound that has an attitude and gets meaner as you pick harder0 1olume &he 'olume kno" regulates the Preamp3s volume and works with the $aster to set the level and distortion amount0 , simple rule of thum" is2 the higher the 'olume is set2 the more distortion you get0 Treble 2(it! Pull 'ri#!t s(it !4 &his tre"le control is similar in operation to the one on Channel 10 %n addition2 it has a "uilt(in Pull 4right switch0 1hen pulled out2 it adds "right highlights to the tone0 ,s the 'olume control is increased past a"out GAG2 the "right switch3s effectiveness will "e decreased0 Middle 2(it! Pull Not ! s(it !4 &he midrange circuit has a slight notch in the fre5uency spectrum at a"out AA< H92 and turning the kno" alters the depth of that notch0 %ts Pull 6otch switch shifts the fre5uency center of that notch down to a"out A< H90 :For reference2 most 1IA<s tweed amps as well as many 4ritish amps have their notch centered at AA< H92 while classic G"lackfaceG ,merican amps have theirs centered at A< H90; *.periment with this2 especially if you3re looking for a uni5uely e.pressive rhythm te.ture0&ypically2 a hum"ucking e5uipped guitar already has a lot o "ass and midrange0 %f you are seeking clean comping or rhythm tones2 having the notch pulled out : A<H9; will allow for more string definition and headroom0 Conversely2 a single coil e5uipped guitar has less mids and may need the fat sound of the notch switch pushed in :AA<H9;0 'ass &he GchunkG and support that form the "ack"one of your tone come from this control0 ,lso2 when using a singled coil guitar for a )a99 or "e"op tone2 this control will add the needed fatness to the lower strings0 Master 2(it! Pull 'oost s(it !4 Channel has a special *Q circuit that works in con)unction with the distortion circuit to sweeten the tone0 &herefore2 the $aster kno"3s effect goes "eyond loudness control0 &ry it with different 'olume and $iddle settings to ad)ust the amount of GsingingG and Ggrit0G &he 4oost2 activated "y pulling the $aster kno" :or pressing the switch on the FS(8 Footswitch;2 is a sweet(sounding "oost characteri9ed "y a more su"tle effect on the harmonics than Channel 13s 4oost control while adding sustain0 &he Ch0 4oost helps to drive the power amp2 and the "est description of its influence over the tone is that it thickens it0 Reverb &his control allows for the e.cellent GHammond + Spring Long PanG !ever" to "e en)oyed0 &his is a GParallelG effect2 and is ad)usta"le for intensity up to A<J0 ,d)ust to taste0

-o us &his control is another !%'*!, e.clusive that actually lets you change the speaker3s response characteristics2 from tight to loose0 &he effect can give closed("ack ca"inets a sound more akin to an open one2 and vice(versa2 plus you can Gcustom "lendG the amount of hardness your final sound has0 6ew to !ivera amps2 first unveiled on Quiana is a new GPull 1armG0 4y pulling this control2 the "ottom end response of the power amp section changes as well as the high end2 giving a sweet contoured tone0 &he Focus and Presence controls will also "e modified in their sweep2 increasing their effectiveness0 Presen e &he Presence control is incorporated as a vital part of the power amp section0 &hink of it as a final "rightness control after all the *Q2 distortion and effects0 Standb% 4y turning the Power on and the Stand"y off :the down position2 la"eled with a G<G;2 you can warm up the amplifier "efore applying full voltage to the Preamp and power output tu"es0 &his prolongs tu"e life0 >sing the Stand"y switch when you3re taking a "reak also helps to e.tend the tu"es3 life2 plus it keeps the amp constantly at the ready0 Bust flip the Stand"y switch to the up :G%G; position2 and you3re ready to play0 Po(er &his is your main power switch0 &he on position is indicated "y the light "eing illuminated0 &he off position is marked "y the G<G on the switch0 4efore turning the amp on2 always check that a speaker is connected and that the power cord is firmly plugged into the amp and the outlet0 Rear Panel Mains Input /our !%'*!, amp has a detacha"le power cord that connects to the chassis ,C connector la"eled $ains %nput0 ,lways use this cord and2 in the event that the power cord re5uires replacement2 replace it with the same type of power cord0 Consult your !%'*!, dealer for further information0 4e sure to use a grounded electrical mains power supply socket whenever possi"le0 &hese outlets have a grounding pin in addition to the normal line and neutral pin0 &he power cord supplied with your !%'*!, amp has a =(pin plug0 -o not cut off or damage the ground pin0 %f the availa"le electrical outlet is of the older (pin type2 use a suita"le ground(lift adapter0 &he >0S0,02 Canada2 and Bapan share a common CS,K>L(style cord0 $ost of *urope and Scandinavia utili9e a *uro plug and have a S*$?#K'-*(style cord0 ,ustralia uses a different type of plug2 as does *ngland2 and South ,frica as well0 6ote7 ,void using long power e.tension cords0 Long cords have sufficient resistance to electrical current that the voltage arriving at your amp can "e significantly reduced0 &his can have a "ad effect on your tone0 Mains -use

&his ,C line fuse protects your amplifier from damage due to shorts2 momentary surges2 and defective power tu"es0 %n the event of a fuse failure2 always replace it with the same type of fuse0 6ote7 ,lways turn the amp off and wait a"out five minutes "efore replacing a fuse0 &his allows the parts to cool and high voltages to dissipate0 For 1<<',C versions2 the $ains Fuse is7 = ,mp2 A< 'olt Slo(4lo type :si9e =,G2 or $-L; For 11A',C versions2 the $ains Fuse is7 = ,mp2 A< 'olt Slo(4lo type :si9e =,G2 or $-L; For =<K A<',C versions2 the $ains Fuse is7 & 10+, :time(delay2 Amm . <mm si9e; .T -use &he power amplifier circuit has its own fuse for protecting the output section from short circuits and transient current peaks that e.ceed the normal current draw0 &hese conditions are usually caused "y a "ad tu"e0 1hen a short circuit or transient peak causes the fuse to "low2 the output tu"es should "e checked and replaced2 if necessary0 For 1<<',C and 11A',C versions2 the H& Fuse is7 1K ,mp2 A< 'olt Slo(4lo type :=,G2 or $-L; For =<K A< ',C versions2 the H& Fuse is7 & A<<ma :time(delay2 Amm . <mm si9e; !epeated "lowing of this fuse is a clear indicator of a defective output tu"e0 ,lways use the correct fuse value when replacing the H& Fuse0 %f the $ains Fuse or the H& Fuse repeatedly "lows2 refer your amp to your local !%'*!, dealer or contact us at :C1C; C==(E<++ for further service assistance0 1inta#e3Modern s(it ! Switching amongst the two settings will produce a change of output power :from =Awatts in modern to 1Ewatts in vintage; as well as harmonic "alance0 %n $odern mode2 the output power amplifier operates in GPentodeG and will sound the cleanest2 have the most headroom2 and sound "right2 with odd harmonics :i0e012=2A2E2 etc0; more noticea"le0 'intage mode "rings the output tu"es to work in G&riodeG mode2 halving the power selected "y the High(Low power switch2 and lowering the odd harmonics while raising the even : 282+2C2 etc0; resulting in a sweeter2 darker tone0 -o not switch while playing0 4est way is to place the amp on stand"y first2 then switch0 Spea"er outputs

, speaker must always "e connected to your 'enus +0 &he amp is designed to deliver at least =A watts to a 8(1+ ohm speaker load :with the %mpedance selector appropriately set to match the given load;0 %f it has to drive speaker loads lower than ohms2 its output transformer or other components could "e damaged0 /ou can use C( or 1+(ohm e.tension ca"inets2 either alone or in pairs :one into each speaker output;0 , (ohm speaker ca"inet alone or a pair of 8(ohm e.tension speaker ca"inets together can "e used2 however2 it is not an optimum match2 and the %mpedance Selector Switch must "e set at it3s lowest setting2 8 ohms0 &he only time you may run the amp without a speaker connected is if you have a proper GdummyG impedance load "o. plugged into the speaker output0 >sing a dummy load protects the output transformer2 "ut prolonged use shortens the life of the amp3s output tu"es when the amp is operated at high levels00 Bust "ecause you cannot hear the amp does not mean it is not working hard0 ,lways use a heavy(gauge speaker cord0 &he larger the diameter of the wire2 the lesser of power to "e lost0 , shielded guitar cord can3t handle the power that your amp provides2 and therefore won3t sound right((plus it may actually harm your amp0 !efer to the connection diagrams for further information0 6ote7 6ever use a speaker output to connect directly to the input of a mi.er2 a tape recorder2 a slave amp2 or headphones0 For further information2 refer to the hook(up diagrams for proper connection with e.tension speaker ca"inets0 0ine Output /our !%'*!, 'enus + amp can drive another !%'*!, amp2 power amp2 or other guitar amplifier0 &he Line #ut is post(power amp2 so every "it of tone from your Preamp2 effects :if used;2 and power(amp circuitry is sent from this )ack0 >se a shielded cord connected "etween the amp3s Line #ut and the input of a second amplifier :check that amp3s manual(( it may recommend a specific input;0 &he Line #ut can also "e used to feed a signal to a tape recorder or mi.er0 ,lthough the recorder or mi.er doesn3t receive the tone that comes from the speaker2 it does receive all of the signal from every other stage of the amp2 and for live(performance recording it does an e.cellent )o" of isolating your guitar sound0 6ote7 -o not connect the Line #ut to speakers or headphones0 For further information2 refer to the hook(up diagrams for proper connection0 Impedan e Sele tor Set the %mpedance Selector to match the impedance load of your internal speakers :C #hms;2 or a different setting when used with e.ternal ca"inets Here3s how7 8(ohm setting L #ne 8(ohm ca"inet or two C(ohm ca"inets :one plugged into each speaker output2 like an internal C #hm and an e.ternal C #hm;;0 >se this setting if a 8 to ohm load is needed to drive0 C(ohm setting L #ne C(ohm ca"inet or two 1+(ohm ca"inets :one plugged into each speaker output2 or when using )ust the internal speakers2 C #hms;0

6ote7 %f you are using the FS(8 footswitch2 all of the Front Panel switching functions remain intact and can "e selected "y the respective controls pull(switch function0 ,lso2 the switches and their L*-s are driven "y the amplifier3s powerH there is no "attery to replace inside the FS(80 6ffe ts 0oop #f course2 you can use pedals and rack(mounted effects "etween your guitar and the amp0 %n fact2 that3s where most wah(wahs and other pedals sound e.ceptionally good0 However2 rack signal processors are often "est suited to "eing placed after the Preamp3s tone(shaping circuitry0 /our 'enus3s *ffects Loop is designed to give you the "est match "etween the amp and the processor "y allowing you to set the level of the signal going to the effect2 as well as the one coming "ack0 &herefore2 you can tailor your ampKeffects levels for "est signal(to(noise ratio and the amount of distortion you want0 6ote7 &he *ffects Loop send can "e used to route a signal to a guitar tuner2 recording mi.er2 another guitar amplifiers effects loop return :for 4i($ono amping;2 etc0 &he *ffects Loop comes after the Preamp section0 %n addition2 its low(impedance circuitry lets you drive everything from the simplest stomp("o. effect to the most sophisticated pro signal processor with e.cellent results0 %t3s also fully "uffered2 meaning that it can drive long cords and line(level gear and mi.ing consoles0 :4ecause the signal is electrically un"alanced2 you can use an un"alanced(to("alanced output transformer to connect to e5uipment re5uiring a "alanced input0; /ou can also use the *ffects Loop as a sort of power attenuator "y turning it on and lowering the send and return level controls0 %tDs assigna"le so you can keep all your

headroom on channel while attenuating channel 10 &his is great if you like the cranked up master tone for thick power amp distortion leads2 at lower volumes0 4efore you connect a signal processor to your amp2 either turn the amp off or to stand"y0 >se high(5uality shielded cords "etween the amp and processor0 6ever use a speaker cord0 Settin# 6ffe ts 0oop levels 10 ,fter you connect the amp3s Send and !eturn with the signal processor3s input and output2 pull the !eturn kno" to activate the *ffects loop0 ,ssign it to the desired channel or "oth0 &hen set the amp3s Send Level and !eturn Level "etween A and +0 0 Plug in your guitar2 turn the signal processor on2 and then turn on the amp :or flip the stand"y switch;0 =0 Set the amp3s *ffects Loop Send Level and the signal processor3s input level so that you don3t overload the processor0 ?eep your ears open for unwanted distortion from the signal processor :you3ll know it "y its crackly2 unmusical sound;0 1hack a few chords on your guitar to check that your settings are correct0 80 6ow turn up the *ffects Loop !eturn kno" until the proper volume and overdrive are dialed in0 /ou3ll pro"a"ly have to e.periment with the signal processor3s output level until you get the "est sound and lowest amount of noise0 A0 $ake sure that you consider the straightKeffects "lend at the signal processor2 since all of your Preamp3s signal is passed through the *ffects Loop0 /ou may also use the Gmi.G output2 if the unit has one2 ad)usting the mi. on the effects processor to suit your taste0 6ote7 %f delay sounds such as slap echo2 rever"2 and repeat delay will "e your primary choice of effects2 usually a A<J wet mi. from the effects should "e used0 &he *ffects Loop Send is configured so that it is always active2 so you can use it as a varia"le output0 6ote that if you use the Send to drive slave amps2 etc02 and have nothing plugged into the !eturn )ack2 the signal still passes from the Preamp to the power amp even when the *ffects Loop is internally "ypassed0 Conne tin# t!e 1enus 7 (it! ot!er #ear &he following illustrations will help you to properly connect your Quiana to other amps2 e.tension speaker ca"inets2 and recording and P0,0 gear0 $ake sure the amp and all other gear are turned off whenever you make or change any connections0 Drivin# one e8ternal spea"er abinet
