Special Luncheon Meeting

Elissa Wadleigh
Our representative from the California Republican Party
Humboldt is a bit isolated, so its not often we get together with our kindred spirits from other counties. Much as we can stay in touch via the internet, social media and the like, theres nothing like getting to meet up in person. Elissa Wadleigh has been up here a few times now, once when campaigning to become Northwest Regional Vice Chairman for the California Republican Party. She promised more outreach and a more responsive CRP and, now serving in that position, shes making good on that promise. Were excited to introduce her to you, the HRWF membership; this is really a big part of what the club is all about! As we begin another critical election year (yes, we have a chance to make changes in Washington DC), its especially important that we all come together as we work with our local Central Committee to build a more efficient grassroots effort to support Republican candidates, locally, statewide and nationally. Elissas been active with the Sonoma County Republican Central Committee since 2003, serving as Third District Chair, Volunteer Coordinator, Communications Director, First Vice Chairperson (Political Director), Chairman of the Sonoma County Republican Central Committee (SCRCC), and now as our representative at the state level. Shes worked as campaign office manager for Dominic Foppoli, the Bush Reelection campaign team, as California Statewide Volunteer Coordinator for the Fred Thompson campaign for the President, and County Campaign Chairperson for Senator McCain. On top of all that she is also involved with domestic violence education and support and the Al-Anon Family Groups which help those that are affected by a loved one's substance abuse. Its a real treat to catch up on whats going on with other groups in the state and get up to speed on plans for the coming election year, learning what WE can do to help save California and the nation. It really is a critical time!

ELECTION DAY... THE 2014 PRIMARIES

http: //www. hrwf-ca.org

Presidents Message Resolve:

When I listen to the local, state, and national news like many of us, I wonder whats next? Our freedoms appear to be disappearing and no one stands up and says, Lets get together and do something. Lets make our voices heard. Justice is replaced with Equity and Equality with rather socialistic connotations, and people ring their hands and do nothing. Candor from leaders is cast aside for lies and yet more lies with hidden agendas, and people profane these leaders but do nothing. Sounds totally bleak, doesnt it? With the advent of 2014, a friend of mine has urged me to choose a word as a theme by which to live my life each year. Its something Ive done for the last four or five years. My word for this year is Resolve. I didnt realize all of the ramifications of this word on my life when I chose it. For example, when I asked myself where I needed to act with resolve, I realized everywhere from what time I need to go to bed and arise, to creating more structure in my days and making better use of my time, to better follow-up and less procrastination, etc. We have the opportunity to make a difference locally by choosing to participate to make that difference happen. Grass roots organizing is where its at. We, ourselves, must resolve to commit as members of the HRWF to assist the Republican Central Committee as it works to unite all factions of the party to fight and win elections. This is an election year and, if we are truly frustrated with politics as usual locally, we must resolve to be part of the solution rather than sit idly by and complain. What can you do? Will you resolve to set aside time to stuff envelopes? Call constituents? Walk precincts? Other? Be part of the solution rather than part of the problem? What will you do toward restoring freedom, justice, and honor to our government in the days ahead? Many hands united in a common cause make lighter work for all. I urge you to get giddy at the prospect of winning! Scarlet OHara in Gone with the Wind said, Ill think about that tomorrow, for tomorrow is another day. Well, this is tomorrow. What is your resolve? Our January meeting will be at the Ingomar Club. Jane Burchit and I have arranged a delicious luncheon for our members. Come and hear Elissa Wadleigh, Director of the NW Region of the Republican Party, who will share her vision for this region and what we can do to assist in Republican victories. 2014 is going to be an exciting year! Come, join the fun! Dont forget to bring your White Elephant donations to the meeting!

The CNN/ORC International Survey shows Republicans holding a 48 percent to 44 percent lead over Democrats, a swift reversal from just two months ago, when the Democrat Party stood steady with an 8-point lead over the GOP, 50 percent to 42 percent.

The new numbers are the latest bad polling news for Democrats,

In a recent field poll, conducted for the Sacramento Bee, it was discovered that Californians' approval for public unions has decreased significantly from two years ago. In a 16 point swing in just two years, 45 percent of Californians believe that public employee unions do more harm than good, compared to the 40 percent who believe they do more good. This is something the Republican Party must capitalize on!

In Remembrance:

Eureka mourns the loss Father Eric Freed

During the 3 years of World War II that started with the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor in December, 1941, and ended with the Surrender of Germany and Japan in 1945, the U.S. produced 22 aircraft carriers, 8 battleships, 48 cruisers, 349 destroyers, 420 destroyer escorts, 203 submarines, 34 million tons of merchant ships, 100,000 fighter aircraft, 98,000 bombers, 24,000 transport aircraft, 58,000 training aircraft, 93,000 tanks, 257,000 artillery pieces, 105,000 mortars, 3,000,000 machine guns, and 2,500,000 military trucks. We put 16.1 million men in uniform in the various armed services, invaded Africa, invaded Sicily and Italy, won the battle of the Atlantic, planned and executed D-Day, marched across the Pacific and Europe, developed the atomic bomb and ultimately conquered Japan and Germany. Its worth noting, that during the almost exact amount of time, the Obama administration couldnt build a functioning website. HAPPY NEW YEAR! And may God bless you and your loved ones.

We cannot escape our destiny

In 1974, then Governor Ronald Reagan of California gave one of his most famous speeches, known as his City upon a Hill speech because of his allusion to those words by John Winthrop, governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. These are good words with which to end a year and begin a new one: You can call it mysticism if you want to, but I have always believed that there was some divine plan that placed this great continent between two oceans to be sought out by those who were possessed of an abiding love of freedom and a special kind of courage. This was true of those who pioneered the great wilderness in the beginning of this country, as it is also true of those later immigrants who were willing to leave the land of their birth and come to a land where even the language was unknown to them. . . Standing on the tiny deck of the Arabella in 1630 off the Massachusetts coast, John Winthrop said, We will be as a city upon a hill. The eyes of all people are upon us. . . .We cannot escape our destiny, nor should we try to do so. The leadership of the free world was thrust upon us two centuries ago in that little hall in Philadelphia." In the days following World War II, when the economic strength and power of America was all that stood between the world and the return to the dark ages, Pope Pius XII said, The American people have a great genius for splendid and unselfish actions. Into the hands of America, God has placed the destinies of an afflicted mankind. We are indeed, and we are today, the last best hope of man on earth.
