Lot Control
A lot can represent a quantity of an item that shares the same specifications, one or more receipts from the same vendor, or hatever you choose. !ou can divide each lot into child lots that can reflect hatever characteristics you choose for items ithin the lot. "or e#ample, you may divide a lot of items form a vendor into child lots to reflect differences in quality specifications. $hen you allocate stoc% for production, you can allocate specific lots to a production batch based on the potency, age or other item characteristics. &racle 'nventory provides complete lot number support for inventory transactions. !ou can enable lot control for specific items in your inventory. "or items under lot control, you can assign lot numbers to each receipt, and thereafter reference the same lots each time you perform material transactions. This enables you to have tight control over lot(controlled items in your inventory. !ou must assign lot numbers hen you receive items under lot control. !ou can also add quantities to e#isting lot numbers and split an inventory receipt into several lots. &racle 'nventory uses the default lot generation method that you entered in the &rgani)ation *arameters indo to determine lot numbers. !ou also enter the lot prefi# and starting lot number in the 'tem +aster indo hen you create an item. $hen you issue an item under lot control from inventory, you must specify a lot number for the item. !ou can specify more than one lot to cover the transaction quantity. 'f you attempt to transact an item to or from an e#pired lot, a arning message appears, but the system does not prevent you from using the lot. Setting Up Lot Control


0efore you can use lot control, you must perform the follo ing setup activities, - Setup item lot control( !ou can establish lot control for an item hen you define it. - 1stablish lot number uniqueness( !ou use the Organization Parameters page to specify hether lot numbers should be unique for an item. - 1stablish lot e#piration 2shelf life control3 2optional3( Shel li e is the amount of time that an item can reside in inventory before it e#pires. - .etermine hether to automatically generate lot numbers 2optional3( !ou use the Organization Parameters page to specify ho to generate lot number defaults. 'n this e#ample, you ill create an item, establish full lot control, and establish lot e#piration control. Proce!ure

Clic% the Control list. $hen you enable +ull Control for an item, you can trac% inventory balances by lot number. !ou must specify a lot number for issues and receipts. !ou can establish lot number control only if no on*han! 1uantity for the item e#ists. 'f you establish lot control at the #aster Item level, then the system chec%s for on(hand quantity in all child organi)ations.

This is the starting lot number. $hen you set Lot >umber ?eneration to At 'tem Level in the Organization Parameters page, the system uses this number as the starting lot number. $hen you create additional lots for the item, the system increments each succeeding lot. Clic% in the Starting 3um4er field. This is the number of days added to the lot creation date to determine the lot maturity date. 'f you do not enter a number, then the system assumes the lot is mature at creation. Clic% in the #aturity )ays field. 1nter the desired information into the #aturity )ays field. 1nter :2:. This is the number of days added to the lot creating date before you can release the lot. 'f you do not enter a number, then the system assumes the you can use the lot immediately. Lot E2piration Control governs ho long items in a given lot remain available. !ou cannot change lot e#piration control if on*han! 1uantity e2ists.
