About the workshop:
The eLearning world is buzzing with all sorts of new and exciting things. Mobile learning, social learning, gamification, experience API, analytics, to name just a few. So, how does an eLearning developer cope with all this change? I could say the answer is get back to basics, but Im not sure weve ever been into the basics. Unlike the software industry that understands the value of processes, standards, reusability, naming conventions and documentation, we eLearning professionals tend to be a little less formal. Thats okay, but perhaps now is a good time to examine how we might better prepare for change. In this workshop, well examine and discuss many ways to make your eLearning content easier to adapt, reuse, repurpose, maintain, contextualise, localise and improve. In other words...change. Well get hands on too, giving you the chance to work through some lesser known processes and walk away with something you can put to work in your own context. Well be exploring these topics and more: Wearing the change hat. Separating content, presentation and functionality in eLearning development The 3 hottest tips for increasing productivity: reuse, reuse, reuse Loving your documentation (no, really!) To get the most from this workshop you should bring your own laptop with Adobe Captivate 7 installed, but you dont need to be a Captivate expert.
Martin Brown is a career journeyman having worked in electronics engineering, software development, contracts management and technical communications before realising that he always wanted to be an eLearning developer. Hes very happy that eLearning got invented before retirement. In 2013, Martin left his job as eLearning Specialist with World Vision International to start his own company, Learning Makers and co-found an international joint venture, eCurious. Most of his clients are international non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and their budgets are always tight. The challenge of doing more with less is ever-present in this sector. Its a challenge that Martin relishes. He draws on his technical and creative acumen to solve all kinds of problems. He has found his niche, not surprisingly, in solving problems of change. Martins kids are sometimes amused by the way he uses Dad jokes when discussing new technology with Y-gens and millennials.
Bronte Moran has been developing eLearning solutions for government and higher education since 1999. The quality of her work has been recognized nationally in Australia with numerous presentations, workshops and publications on eLearning. Her focus has been the integration of quality standards in eLearning at all levels, from the implementation of corporate eLearning strategies to the instructional design of specific eLearning modules. Colleen Ortega has developed training solutions and designed learning resources for the government and corporate sectors. As an eLearning Advisor, she enhances learning and teaching online through planning, training, and pedagogical advice. She believes in sustainable eLearning practices developing the skills and expertise within organisations to maintain and expand their own use of eLearning.
