Exhibit: Hanover-Horton High School GSA Constitution Benchmark: Teamwork/Communication Skills: TC109 Make and/or follow a set of rules

s and procedures During the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year, having recognized the need of the presence of a Gay-Straight Alliance, which serves to promote tolerance, respect, support and acceptance of all students regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, I decided to found a GSA at Hanover-Horton High School. In order to properly establish and organize this institution, I immediately recognized the need for a group constitution, a set of rules and procedures establishing the foundation on which the group would be based and governed. Therefore, I wrote a thorough and detailed constitution meant to outline the groups purpose and mission, how it will be governed, and other relevant information. In order to design an effective constitution, I realized that I would have to be thorough, yet concise, and detailed, yet not unclear and overwhelming. With these things in mind, I was able to design a constitution that clearly outlined the GSAs purposes, mission statement, method of governance, membership information, and responsibilities. I also designed the constitution to exude professionalism without being inaccessible and complicated to the average student/member, because a document meant to govern a group is not effective if the members comprising the group cannot grasp or understand the messages entailed in the document. So, too, did I design the document to be effective in another of its primary purposes: standing the test of time. I designed the constitution specifically with the purpose of being able to continue providing a foundation for the group well after this year. The skill of making/following a set of rules is crucial because, simply, life is filled with rules. In order to be an able leader, one must be able to organize and form sets of rules and procedures, and in order to be a valuable and functioning member of society at large, one must be able to also follow said rules. This skill is quite integral to my career choice, as one of a politicians primary tasks is legislating, or writing and passing rules. This skill is also integral to me as a young adult because in order to be a mature adult, and be treated as such, one must be able to accept the concept of authority and rules. So, because I have this experience in leading and making/following a set of rules and procedures, I believe myself to be well equipped for this aspect of adulthood.
