Hanover-Horton High School Gay-Straight Alliance Constitution We, the students of Hanover-Horton High School, in order to promote acceptance

and tolerance of the LGBT student body, and to fight hate and homophobia, do hereby resolve to establish this constitution of the Gay-Straight Alliance of Hanover-Horton High School. Article One: Name Section One: The name of this organization shall be the GayStraight Alliance (GSA) of Hanover-Horton High School (HHHS). Article Two: Purpose and Mission Statement Section One; the Purposes of this Club: 1. To improve and promote awareness and acceptance within both the school, and society at large, to the right of all students to a safe and harassment-free education, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. 2. To provide a supportive environment in which all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) individuals, along with our straight allies, may feel free to be themselves, be comfortable, and feel connected to one another. 3. To educate students and staff on LGBT issues, including (but not limited to), homophobia, transphobia, discrimination, and human rights. 4. To promote a safer and friendlier HHHS; one in which diversity is openly embraced and harassment is condemned. 5. To educate the student population, and general population, on the negative impacts of homophobia and bullying on students and society overall.

Section Two; Mission Statement: The Hanover-Horton High School Gay-Straight Alliance has been established to promote the ideals of tolerance, acceptance, and respect for all students regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. We welcome all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning students, along with our straight allies. We seek to unite in support of each other, and against hate, homophobia, transphobia, discrimination and prejudice. Together, we also seek to work to educate our fellow students about the damaging effects of homophobia and bullying on others, and on society as a whole, as well as to provoke a positive change in school policy and student attitudes with regard to the LGBT community and LGBT issues. Article Three: Membership Section One; Gaining Membership: Membership is open to everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, provided you support the principles outlined in the mission statement. Membership is established by proper meeting attendance, participation in GSA events and meetings, and signing the GSA roster. Section Two; Retaining Membership: Membership is retained through consistent participation and attendance of GSA meetings, and adherence to the principles of the HHHS GSA. Section Three; Losing Membership: Membership may be lost through the neglect of ones duties as a member of the HHHS GSA. Article Four: Management, Officers and Duties of Officers Section One; Management: The Hanover-Horton High School Gay-Straight Alliance is a student-run organization, and shall, accordingly, be governed by its members. Elected officers shall manage the groups activities as outlined below. Faculty/staff advisors shall also offer support and guidance to the group.

Section Two; Officers and Duties of Officers: There shall be two GSA officers, elected by a majority vote of all members, who are tasked with managing and operating the group. The President is tasked with presiding over every meeting and is recognized as the head spokesperson of the GSA. The President will also be responsible for running meetings, facilitating the organizations goals, ensuring the financial stability of the group and providing for the general organization and maintenance of the group. The Vice President is tasked with taking the place of the President in the case of his/her absence or resignation. Section Three; Elections: Elections shall be held during the fourth meeting of the HHHS GSA during the first year, and during the first meeting in succeeding years. Until such point as the first elections may be held, the founding student of the group shall assume the responsibilities and duties of the office of the president. Section Four; Requirements for running for and holding office: In order to run for, and subsequently hold, an office of the HHHS GSA, one must be a student at Hanover-Horton High School, and be able to perform the duties outlined in Section 2 of this article. Article Five: Duties of Members Section One; Members Duties: Hanover-Horton High School Gay-Straight Alliance members are responsible for upholding the core principles of this group, along with fulfilling the duties described in Article 3. Article Six: Duties of the Organization Section One; Duties of the HHHS GSA: The Hanover-Horton High School Gay-Straight Alliance is responsible for upholding and adhering to the principles outlined in Article 2.

Article Seven: Meetings Section One; GSA Meetings: The GSA meeting time and place shall be determined by a majority vote of its members following a discussion. Both the meeting time and place are subject to change following a subsequent vote. Article Eight: Amendments Section One: This constitution may be amended at any time by a two-thirds majority vote of all HHHS GSA members.
