The UP Association of Civil Engineering Students, on its 59th year, brings the National Civil Engineering Symposium 2013.

NCES 2013 is a celebration of influential events that aim to uphold camaraderie among its participants and equip them with skills and ethics in nation-building. With over 2,500 engineers and engineers-to-be that is expected to join, jam packed activities are on the line for the biggest Civil Engineering event in the country. Happened on September 6-7, 2013 at the University of the Philippines Diliman. This Symposium discusses these topics; Wind Engineering, Disaster Mitigation: Project NOAH, Automated Guide way Transit (AGT) System, and Building Ecologically Responsive Design Excellence (BERDE). Wind Engineering; Nowadays, the world has been more focused on natural disasters and weather disturbances. One of the weather disturbances the country is suffering from is the typhoon. Typhoons have great effect on high-rise buildings, and telecommunication towers due to the gust they bring. Disaster Mitigation: Project NOAH; the Philippines is one of the countries prone to natural calamities, which become worse every year due to different factors such as climate change. Calamities like typhoons that have been entered the country left with human lives and damaged property. The Department of Science and Technology developed Project NOAH (Nationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards), an integrated, more accurate and more responsive disaster mitigation and prevention system. Through this project, the Department of Science and Technology aims to enhance disaster management and ultimately improve the governments capacity to prevent casualties as well as reduce property by building more disaster resilient communities. Automated Guide way Transit (AGT) System; the Department of Science and Technology may have found the solution to address the ever-growing problems of mass transportation in the country with the development of the Automated Guide way Transit (AGT) System. In our country, the AGT may be the most efficient mode of transportation for commuters. Though it is smaller than major railway systems, its size makes it a relatively cheaper transportation, and a more favorable vehicle in highly congested area. It is fully automated, driverless railway system that is emission-free and powered by electricity. This talk aims to give participants exclusive privilege to get to know the project may greatly affect and improve the transportation system in the Philippines. Building Ecologically Responsive Design Excellence (BERDE); the world has been very conservative in using our natural resources. Different companies boost their research and development department to venture with renewable sources of energy, as well as enhancing the capacity to be environment friendly. Such developments include the creation of green building. These structures are designed to showcase the practice and sustainability of green technology.
