DETAILS
At times, the architect and engineer need a drawing that gives a three-dimensional appearance. These drawings
are labeled “Detail” on the plans under the title of the detail. Details are not usually drawn to scale. For clarity,
the drafter notes “Not to Scale” or gives the scale used. Some examples of such drawings are shown in Details
Figures 22 through 26. Each of these details gives a realistic view of the object along with specific necessary
information.
• Details, are included on plans to relay information from the architect to persons who will be studying the
construction drawings.
• Details, may be on a separate page or on unused spaces on the construction drawings.
• A detail shows how materials and components are joined, and it is not usually drawn to scale. Details are
often drawn using the isometric or oblique drafting method.
