The Future of QAC Youth

Last month we had a meeting to discuss the future of youth programming at QAC. It
was wonderful to see the outpouring of ideas and interest that we received from every-
one who was there. It warms my heart to see all the support for development of new
family/youth ministries at QAC. As I see it, what we have is a ministry of, for, and by
persons of all ages. I pray that, through QAC’s family ministry, you and all the other
young people who will join you, will lend your own gifts and leadership in our shared
ministry of faith formation, education, mission and service. I am looking forward to jour-
neying with you.
Peace, Maggie Atkinson

June and Gardening, from Katherine
June is an important month for gardeners and farmers. This is the month they need water to facilitate the growth of
their crops. Water is necessary for all life. According to the National Catholic Reporter, there was a meeting at the
Islamic Center of Passaic County in New Jersey, in which Christians and Muslims came together to learn about the
sacredness of water and what threatens the world's supply of it.
"Environmental groups who specialize in water issues believe the faith community has to be involved in con-
servation,‖ said Sister Suzanne Golas, a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace and founder of the Water-
spirit program at the Stella Maris Retreat Center in Elberon, who spoke to the group at the center in early April.
"No matter the faith or the belief, those who have a deeper sense of the presence of the sacred in creation recognize
the responsibility to have a right relationship with earth and the community of life," said Sister Golas. Noting that
the Bible begins with water and ends with water, Sister Golas said, "In the Bible, water is the element most fre-
quently mentioned -- partially because the setting of the Bible is on very arid land.
"However, there is one theme that runs across in our Scripture -- the theme of living water. Living water is water
that is flowing cleanly and purely," she said. "There are so many references to water that talk about water living
and bringing forth life."
