Together we translate the various sciences, and make a better life…

Introduction:

DAT is intending to conduct 3 types of survey to help assist in building up the final and the
most vital section of their business plan. The objectives of these surveys are:
1. Getting market indicators about the translation trends inside and outside Egypt.
2. Getting an idea about the accepted pricing policy.
3. Getting an idea about the usual fixed costs for such businesses.
4. Getting an idea about the maximum output for an institution with the size and ideas of
DAT.

Let us first introduce you to DAT.

The idea of Dar Al-Tarjama (DAT) aims at the establishment of a worldwide, comprehensive
translation movement/practice, starting with the Arab countries then spreading to the rest of
the world. First of all it has to be understood that translation is a service business, not an
industry or commerce. This service is provided to the society with its various enterprises and
institutions with the aim of offering the suitable media that can make various cultures interact
and eventually react in a positive manner. Translation provides the proper media in which
our own efforts for realizing a revival will be transmitted. DAT was started with the aim of
providing this tool, this service and this media to any real effort (not necessarily project)
aiming for the revival of the Muslim Nation and the enlightenment of mankind through
spreading reliable knowledge.

With more than 420 members coming from over twenty countries, DAT is to take the lead in
correcting many misconceptions about Islam in the Western world, as well as in the minds of
many Muslims. We will do so through authentic, yet profoundly Islamic and moderate texts,
in all possible live languages. In parallel, DAT is to play a pioneering role in Arabizing
modern science and technology for the welfare of the whole Arab Nation. This is to be
achieved through the establishment of a worldwide and comprehensive translation practice
starting with the Arab countries then spreading to the rest of the world, for the satisfaction of
the Creator the Almighty Allah (SWT). The enormity of responsibility towards this noble
mission mandates that DAT should achieve and maintain the highest attainable level of
professional standards, in terms of precision, fluency and satisfying the needs of worldwide
readers.

DAT focuses on a large market niche that utilizes a variety of translation services. With
members from over 20 countries all over the world, DAT stands out as an unmatched
translation house with such a wide range of representation. Our marketing will mainly
depend on our members who have all been working on totally voluntary basis for almost two
years seeking nothing but to make DAT materialize into a self-sustained entity.

Our clients are mainly going to be:

I- For Islamic Products:

A- Publishing houses, to act as our market facet for translated books.

B- Islamic websites.
C- Da’wa organizations.
D- Islamic speakers and all those trying to convey the true message of Islam.
E- Multimedia organizations (Cable channels, Software companies and other
organizations): Synchronous audio/video translation.

II- For Arabization Products (Books and multimedia):

A- Academic institutions (faculty and students): curricula and reference materials.

B- The general public: Student/Teacher awareness and educational materials.

DAT is a rather unique translation business enterprise in that it does not seek to dominate the
market and compete with others for larger profits. Rather, we aim to cooperate or even ally
with others who serve the same mission.

It has become so obvious that the situation of the translation market these days requires
joining hands. From an article titled, “Translation: A market in crisis”, posted on
www.translationdirectory.com I copy for you the following: “Translators of the World,
Unite! There are cries for union among translators, for the need to present a united front,
even claims that it is unethical to charge less than the next guy and all.” From that respect,
DAT will act as a portal for both publishing houses and reputable translation firms to get their
work distributed through our members and our various aspired connections with publishing
houses all over the world.

Help us in promoting our cause and reaching our target which will, by the will of Allah, be of
benefit to all mankind.
