For these reasons they have become a popular security feature on a worldwide scale used in many applications from currency and passports to tax stamps and certificates.

Optical & Material Science

Optically Variable Devices (OVDs) is an industry term to describe visual security features that are obvious to the naked eye and reveal an array of different visual effects as the device is moved with respect to the obseNer. Kinetic effects (movement) and colour changing are typical examples of such features. A key feature of OVDs is that they cannot be copied by colour copiers or scanners. They also require a high level of expertise including costly and complex equipment for origination and manufacture.

Complete Design Capability

OpSec Security's design team is charged with producing elegant and effective visual security OVD designs. The group is highly qualified with years of experience in graphic design and a thorough understanding of optical technologies. With a full array of available design tools, optical technologies and origination techniques, OpSec's design team develops customised security solutions for ID solutions and government documents. OpSec works closely with clients to ensure that the design solution matches the objectives of the security application.

Origination
OpSec's secure multi-lab origination facility is home to some of the world's most sophisticated origination systems. By utilising a variety of proprietary optical techniques, OpSec creates innovative originations to meet each client's specific requirements. In-house developed systems combine multiple origination technologies in a single image. The resulting image includes unique optical effects, both overt and covert, that pose significant barriers to attack from counterfeiters. OpSec's in-house electroforming capabilities enable total quality and security of the final image prior to the manufacturing process.

Leading E-beam Technology

OpSec's direct write technology is based on electron beam exposure directly writing individual diffractive fringes at ultra-high resolution. The writing resolution exceeds 2.5 million dpi and allows the creation of many unique overt and covert optical security features that cannot be replicated by conventional optical security technologies.

Technologies
OpSec's extensive R&D program has resulted in the capability to combine multiple technologies into a single image in order to create unique OVDs with highly secure features. OpSec has the industry's most comprehensive range of OVD technologies including: Classic 3D 2D/3D Stereogram AEGIS

OVD Security Features

OpSec's OVO technologies include holography, diffraction grating imaging, liquid crystal technology, and many visual variations within these categories. One of OpSec's key strengths is the ability to seamlessly interlock these technologies, creating highly effective 1 0 and document security solutions.

Advanced Liquid Crystal Technology SecurMAX:

SecurMAXe has unique multi-colour and polarising qualities which result in the image having various effects when viewed at different angles. The security feature retains a highly transparent mode allowing it to protect printed or photographic data without affecting visibility. The optical appearance is quite distinct and can make use of the entire colour spectrum.

Traditional Repeat Pattern

Advantage TM:
30 Lens Effect CLR
Advantage has three unique optical characteristics. In normal lighting conditions, both daylight and artificial, the image switches from green to orange, depending on the viewing angle. Head-on, the image is transparent, allowing it to be placed directly over sensitive information.

ISIS:
OpSec's patented OVO exhibits a dramatic kinetic "black and white" image switch (unlike traditional "rainbow" diffractive OVOs) providing strong overt security, while maintaining a simple visual authentication feature.

Aditional Security Features SecurMET:

OpSec's revolutionary metal embedded security feature to enhance overt security. SecurMEP' makes authentication simple with its bold, bright look.

Blaze Grating:
Blaze grating bars with diffractive contrasting logo fill over 180.

Traditional Repeat Pattern:

Line pattern detail repeated and rendered in 450dpi dots.

3 Colour UV Printing:
Complex UV printing in 2 or 3 Colours. Registered images offer a dramatic covert feature which is easily authenticated with a simple UV light source.

CLR:
Encoded image within the OVO which can only be seen by interrogating the label using a customised laser reading device.

30 Lens Effect:
30 lens fill effect with 250dpi custom pixel border.

Micro & Nano Text:

Text typically between 0.01 and 0.2mm high and not visible to the naked eye.

Micro Opsec Logo and Nano Images:

Rendered via e-beam technology with extremely fine detail for extraordinary covert and forensic authentication.

Flexible manufacturing capability

OpSec's global manufacturing facilities use a variety of embossing techniques and processes at web widths up to 1 2 metres to ensure economical manufacture without sacrificing either quality or security. The Washington UK site is a 5,000 sq metre purpose built high security manufacturing facility that is certified to the stringent security requirements of CWA14641.
