The Principles and Practise of MI Dentistry

This course is designed to examine the principles and practises of Minimal Intervention. Topics to be covered will be: Part 1 - "Preventing Dentistry" MI way! This lecture aims to outline and explain the ethos that is Minimum Intervention oral/dental care, with a clinical and science evidence base. Practical guidance regarding caries prevention protocols and regimes in general dental practise will be offered for further discussion. Part 2 - MI way of managing caries: the tricks of the trade! This lecture will provide an update of the principles of minimally invasive operative caries management, discussing the rationale behind retaining residual caries and sealing lesions, the use of more selective operative technologies that are available to prepare cavities and excavate deep caries and an overview of the adhesive restorative materials that can be used clinically to seal lesions and protect future pulp vitality. About the Presenter: Professor Banerjee qualified at Guys Dental school in 1993 and obtained a PhD in cariology in 1998. After completing his clinical restorative training, he held the position of senior lecturer/honorary consultant in restorative dentistry as well as Head of preclinical conservative dentistry at Kings College London Dental Institute. In this role over 10 years, he developed and progressed the undergraduate conservative dentistry clinical skills course. He currently holds a full personal Chair in Cariology and Operative Dentistry, a directorship of Integrated Clinical Care and Conservative Dentistry and is Program director for the pioneering distance learning MSc Advanced Minimum Intervention Dentistry that he created at the Dental Institute. He holds a Visiting Chair in restorative Dentistry in Oman and is the primary author of Pickards Manual of Operative Dentistry 9th edition; a definitive international text in the field. As well as editing a new text, Minimally Invasive Aesthetics in Dentistry, Avi has contributed chapters in multiple other texts.
