BUILDING SECURITY SYSTEM

UNIVERSITY OF VOCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY SRI LANKA

NAME - D.T.W.L Dharmapala Reg NO - BST/13/B2/05

OUTLINE

WHAT IS BUILDING SECURITY SYSTEM ?

Protection against - Danger Loss Criminal activity

MAIN OBJECT ?
Provide safety for all the employees, staff and visitors who use the building and objects.

ADVANTAGES

Increase Personnel safety Protect more physical and information assets Speed of response Manpower Savings Solve unique problems Traffic control/crime prevention Airport baggage control Mobile surveillance Safety (Disaster Prevention) Limit maintenance Initial cost is high but long term investment

COMPONENTS OF SECURITY SYSTEM1. Access control and monitoring system 2. Video surveillance system 3. Fire protection system

ADVANTAGES OF ACCESS CONTROL SYSTEM

Who, When, Where, What
Who uses the system When they use the system Where they use the system What happened

ADVANTAGES OF ACCESS CONTROL SYSTEM

Minimize long term cost
Minimize beneath activities & theft Keeping a record of who is coming & going

2. Video surveillance system 3. Fire protection system

MAIN ELEMENT OF VIDEO SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM

1. CCTC Camera (Closed Circuit Television Camera) 2. VCR (Video Cassette Recorder) DVR (Digital Video Recorder) or NVR (Network Video Recorder) 3. 1. Coax Cable 2. Ethernet cable(UTP Cable or Fiber Optic Cable , 3. Cat Cable) 4. 4. Monitor

CONFIGURATION OF VIDEO SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM

VCR OR DVR OR NVR

DIFERENT BETWEEEN VCR &DVR

Video Cassette Recorder (VCR) Digital Video Recorder (DVR)

Analog tapes

Serial recording/ no concurrent viewing

Limited recording - based on time lapse/quality setting and tape length Tapes wear out and images degrade from time and copying Not easily searched for events Copying/sharing/transporting footage labor intense Requires significant people hours physical assets to change and store tapes

Digital hard drive Record /View different footage simultaneously Recording length relatively infinite based on size of hard drive No image degradation over time and limitless copying Instant event search/viewing Video files easily copied, shared, transported No tapes to change or wear out. No physical storage required Includes analog to video conversion and compression

Benefits OF NVR
Network Video Recorder (NVR) Video Management Software on a standard network server Flexible processing, storage capacity Requires video server or codec Encodes/decodes analog and digital signals Converts analog-digital and digital to analog Compresses digital signals to optimize network bandwidth Trade off are quality vs. file size

TYPE OF CAMERA
1. Digital Camera (also called Color Camera ) 2. Analog Camera (also called Monochrome)

COLOR CAMERA
Color cameras can send images in color to the monitor screen. They are relatively more expensive than monochrome cameras, but recently have come to be used in most CCTV applications. For surveillance applications in particular, it may be important to be able to recognize clothing or vehicle color. Some color cameras come with an increased sensitivity function

MONOCHROME CAMERAS
Monochrome cameras (also called B&W or black-and-white cameras) are less expensive than color cameras.
Generally they have lower minimum illumination requirements compared to color cameras and therefore can produce clearer images of dark objects.

CONSIDERATION BEFOR CHOISE A CAMERA

Will the camera be used in outdoor or indoor setting How is the lightning throughout the entire daySome camera has Infrared Technology, but not effect to the human eye What video quality is desiredIt measure from TVL value. 350 TVL- Low Resolution 480 TVL- Mid Resolution 540-600 TVL High Resolution

CONSIDERATION BEFOR CHOISE A CAMERA

It weather proof or not Image type - Color or Monochrome It should be noise free Lens size

CONCLUSIONS
Building security system will continue to advance protection of people and assets from reactive to predictive It no biased to anybody Video Management Software (VMS) capabilities will continue to improve building security system Video Surveillance system will quickly give what happened

Financial benefits of anywhere/all-the-time monitoring and recording from access control system
