Society in General Represents a Geographical aggregate and has a boundary, similar government or a group of persons engaged in social relationships for a meaningful interaction. 2. Meaning of Culture and Personality Culture- the evolved human capacity to classify and represent experiences with symbols, and to act imaginatively and creatively Personality- individualizing trait of a man which constitutes his singularity and differentiates from any other human being. 3. Determinants of Personality A. Biological Heritage- includes all that a person possesses as transmitted from parents to offspring by means of germ plasm. Musculature- of any living organs can be accurately represented through finite Nervous System- system which gives man his every contact with his experiences with others. Central Nervous- system part of the nervous system that integrates the information that it receives from, and coordinates the activity Sympathetic Nervous System- responsible for regulation of internal organs Glands- group of cells B. E.Q. Factors- New brain research suggests that emotions, not I.Q., may be the true measure of human intelligence. Emotional intelligence (E.Q.) was coined by Yale psychologist Peter Salovey and University of New Hampshire John Mayer, to describe qualities like understanding ones feelings empathy for the feeling of others. C. Environmental- Geographic environment refers to locate on, Climate, topography and natural resources. These may be responsible for the different experiences in adjustment to the physical world. Cultural environment- learned ways of living and norms of behavior which are transmitted to the child through social groups.

Social Environment- various groups and social interactions going on in the groups of which the individual is a member. Home and Family- basic unit which transmits the biological traits of its member, mental abilities and emotional dispositions. Status and Roles- individual is born into a group and occupies a certain position or rank. Achieved Status- acquired by choice or through competition and individual efforts and determination.

Social Agents- the school, the church and other social institutions are also instrumental in molding the individual into a wholesome, dynamic and assertive personality. School- often thought of as an institution and intellectual training. Church- has its own unique contribution to the formation of the individuals personality, unique in a sense that it is has a mission, a commitment in helping both home and the community to develop high sense of values.

Situation- Influences the effects of heredity and environment on personality. An individual s personality. Which is generally stable and consistent, does change in different situation. 4. Philippine Cultural Values Every culture develops a personality stature of its own. This idea fits in with the concepts of national character whereby Filipino has distinct characteristics that differentiate them from the Americans or Japanese. Panopio and Cordero (1978) present a brief discussion of these prevailing values as studied by both American and Filipino Scientists. Non-rationalism- involves an uncritical acceptance, reverence and protection of tradition or rituals. Rationalism- involves a belief that by systematic planning studying, and training. Authoritarianism- Filipino are also inclined to status oriented behavior, feminine responsibility, shame, debt of gratitude, self-esteem, SIR, identified by Fr. Lynch as the desire for smooth inter personal relations. Personalism- attaches major importance to the personal factor which guarantees intimacy warmth and security or kinship and friendship in getting things done. Impersonalism- refers to the tendency to eliminate the influence of friendship or kinship in working situations.
