New Year, new you:

How to stay on track for 2014
Youve toasted to the new year, but time ies and more people are feeling that resolution hangover well into January. The new year often marks a time when people go back to the drawing board when it comes to personal, health and professional goals. But according to researchers, breaking your New Years resolution is an annual tradition. At the NCN Family and Community Wellness Centre, we are committed to helping community achieve better health, relationships with family and overall wellness. So here are a few ways to help you keep on track for 2014. Be Realistic If you set the bar too high, theres a greater chance that you wont reach it. For example, if you vow to never eat chocolate again, youre setting yourself up to fail. Instead, strive for a goal that is attainable, such as avoiding it more often than you do now. Plan Ahead Most people wait until the last minute, or even the midnight countdown to make their resolution. If you did this, your goal will be based on your mindset that particular day.! While its too late to turn back the clock, you can still set goals that are made with more thought. Outline Your Plan Decide how you will deal with the temptation to skip that exercise class or have that piece of cake. This could include calling on a friend for help, practicing positive thinking and self-talk, or reminding yourself how your shortfall will affect your goal.

Track Your Progress Keep track of each small success. Short-term goals are easier to keep, and each small accomplishment will help keep you motivated.!Instead of focusing on losing 30 pounds, focus on losing the rst ve. Keep a food journal to help you stay on track, and reward yourself for each ve pounds lost. Dont Beat Yourself Up Obsessing over the occasional slip wont help you achieve your goal.!Do the best you can each day, and take one day at a time.

RCMP Cadet Program

Reaching out to youth in NCN
The RCMP Community Cadet Program was started in the mid 90s in Saskatchewan, and eventually spread across Canada. Locally, the the NCN Community Cadets program starting October 23, 2013 with the rst drill session. Youth are well into the program now, which resumed after a short break during the holiday. The goal of the program is to provide healthy lifestyle, choices for the youth and make them responsible young people and, ultimately making them future leaders in their community. There are a lot of changes being noticed by all in the community already. Displaying disciplined behaviour in the form of Drill practicing in the halls during school hours, showing respect to their teachers, looking forward to Cadet nights are the more observable changes right now. It's too early to measure academic changes at his stage but this will be monitored as we progress, says Lester Houle, Coordinator from RCMP D Division in Winnipeg. Houle provides the curriculum and other information to start the program. Helping run it are community volunteers Natalie Tays, Krista Campbell, Wayne Spence, Bailey Tays, Muriel Hart, Mike Pardy and ACC Cst. Ryan Linklater. Houle says there are challenges that he saw on the onset. Consistency in getting all of them to attend Cadet Nights, usually two or three are absent since we started, says Houle. Forty-two youth between the ages of 12 and 18 are enrolled in the program, but on average about 40 youth attend each meeting. The dates for the end of the program have yet to be determined, but ofcials say it will likely coincide with the end of the school year with a graduation ceremony for cadets.
