Forma interrogativa
Do I talk parlo io?
Do you talk parli tu?
Does he, she, it talk parla egli/lei/Lei? parlate voi?
Do we talk parliamo noi?
Do they talk parlano essi/esse?

Watch out (attenzione): nella forma affermativa la terza persona singolare aggiunge
una –s.
Invece sia nella forma interrogativa che nella forma negativa, la –s viene aggiunta non al
verbo ma all’ausiliare: does , doesn’t.

I verbi che finiscono in /sh/-/ch/-/x/-/s/-/o/ aggiungono –es alla terza persona

singolare: he watches, he finishes, he fixes, he kisses, he does, he goes.

I verbi che finiscono in –y si dividono in due gruppi:

a. quelli che presentano una vocale davanti alla –y seguono la regola
generale;
b. quelli che presentano una consonante davanti alla –y cambiano la y in i e
poi aggiungono –es: he plays, he studies.

Il Present Simple si usa per:

• Azioni ripetute. Repeated actions.

Si usa il Present Simple per parlare di avvenimenti che si svolgono abitualmente,
ripetutamente, può anche essere qualcosa che spesso dimentichiamo o non facciamo.
We use the Present Simple to talk about events which happen all the time or
repeatedly, it can also be something a person often forgets or usually does not
do.
I often drink tea. Io bevo spesso tè.
Tom works from 9 to 5. Tom lavora dalle 9 alle 5.
She doesn’t speak Italian. Lei non parla italiano.
He always forgets something. Lui dimentica sempre qualcosa.

• Affermazioni generali, fatti. Generalizations or facts.

Il presente semplice è usato per affermazioni di tipo generale, per fatti che sono sempre
veri.
The Present Simple is also used for generalizations and facts which are
considered always true.
I hate Maths. Io odio matematica.
The sun rises in the east. Il sole sorge nell’est.
The Earth goes round the sun. La Terra gira intorno al sole.
Spain is in Europe. La Spagna è in Europa.
Cats like fish. Ai gatti piace il pesce.

• Avvenimenti programmati in un futuro prossimo. Scheduled events in the

near future.

Il Present Simple può anche esprimere, come d’altronde fa anche l’italiano, un futuro
quando parliamo di orari di mezzi di trasporti.
The Present Simple is also used to talk about scheduled events in the near future.
This is most commonly done when talking about public transportation, but it can
be used with other scheduled events as well.
The train leaves tomorrow at 5 am. Il treno parte alle 5 del mattino.
The bus does not arrive at 8:00, it arrives at 8:15. L’autobus non arriva alle 8, arriva
alle 8:15.
The film starts at 9 o'clock. Il film inizia alle 9.

• Adesso, verbi non progressivi. Now, non-continuous verbs.

Il Present Simple esprime anche un’azione che si svolge adesso, ma solo con quei verbi
che non possono usare il continuous e cioè con i non-continuous verbs. (vedere il
present continuous)
The Present Simple can also express the idea that an action is happening or is not
happening now, but only with non-continuous verbs .
I want an ice-cream now. Io voglio un gelato.
Mark is not here now. Mark non è qui adesso.
I needs a bottle of water right now. In questo preciso momento ho bisogno di una
bottiglia d’acqua
He does not need you now. Non ha bisogno di te adesso.
