UNIT-II: AC CIRCUITS Q.1 Find the value of Rand C so that Vb = 3Va and Vb and Va are in quadrature.

Find also the phase relation between V and Vb; Va & I. Draw phasor diagram.

Q.2 A circuit has XL = 20 0 at 50 Hz., its resistance being 15 . For an applied voltage of 200 V at 50 Hz. Calculate:i. The pf ii. the current iii. the value of shunting capacitance to bring the resultant current into phase with the applied voltage and iv. the resultant current in case iii. Q.3 An R-L-C series circuit has a current that lags behind applied voltage by 45, The voltage across the inductance has maximum value equal to twice the maximum value of voltage across capacitance. The voltage across inductance is 300 sin (1000 t) and R = 20 . Find the values of inductance and capacitance. Q.4 A) An alternating voltage is given by V = 1414 sin 314 t findi. ii. iii. iv. B) Define the equation for resonance frequency (fr) in parallel resonance circuit. Q.5 A 100 resistor is connected in series with a choke coil. When a 400 V, 50 Hz supply is applied to this combination, the voltage across the resistance and the choke coil are 200V and 300V respectively. Find the power consumed by the choke coil. Also calculate the power factor of choke coil and power factor of the circuit. Q.6 (a) An alternating current i is given by i = 141.4 sin 314 t. Find (i) The peak value (ii) The frequency (iii) The time period, and (iv) The instantaneous value when time is 3 m sec.

Q.8 If two impedances Z1 = (4+J8) and Z2 = (3-j6) are connected in parallel with each other and a voltage source of 50 Hz, 230 Volts is applied across the parallel combination then obtain the following:i) Draw the circuit diagram. ii) Current through each branch and power factor of each branch. iii) Total current and total power factor. iv) Power consumed by each impedance. v) Draw the neat phasor diagram. Q.9 Find the Average and RMS value for the waveform given below.

Q.10 A series RLC circuit is connected to the ac voltage source v(t) = 24 sin(1000t+20)V. if R=15 and L= 0.1H, what value of capacitance C is required to make the phase angle between v(t) and i(t) in the circuit equal to zero degrees. Q.11 Determine the RMS value of voltage waveform shown below:-

Q.12 A) Give the comparison between series and parallel resonance circuits. B) A 46 mH inductive coil has a resistance of 10 (i) how much current will it draw if connected across a 100V, 60Hz supply? (ii) what is the power factor of the coil? (iii) Determine the value of capacitance that must be connected across the coil to make the power factor of overall circuit units. Q.13 An inductor having a resistance of 25 and Q 0 of 10 at a resonant frequency of 10 KHz is fed from 10000 supply. Calculate (i) Value of series capacitance required to produce resonance with the coil. (ii) the inductance of the coil (iii) Q 0 using L/C Ratio (iv) voltage across capacitor (v) voltage across coil.
