Blueprint for the establishment of an Asylum Seeker Rights Education Organisation- for launch in 2014

Background and introduction: Australias treatment of asylum seekers is morally is morally and legally corrupted. Australias treatment of asylum seekers has being founded to break multiple human rights laws such as the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refuges as well as The Probation against Torture. Our system of locking up innocent people in detention camps is inhumane, immoral and illegal. However despite the facts a recent poll by UMR research found that upwards of 60 percent of Australians want harsher treatment of refugees, the opinions of these people often based on misinformation, myths and political vote pandering, the only way to end the abhorrent treatment of refugees is to change attitudes in the Australian community, and the Australian voting population. This is where there is a need for an organisation such as this arises. Possible names: Asylum truth

Possible Aims: To educate the public on the relevant human rights law surrounding asylum seekers To act as a myth buster, ensuring the truth of who asylum seekers are, their motives replaces the unscrupulous and harmful myths about them. So that true, indisputable evidence about asylum seekers is used to bust mistruths To build an understanding of the plight of asylum seekers in the general Australian community To, by educating the voting population, assist in bringing to and end Australias inhumane, and illegal treatment of refugees/ asylum seekers.

Possible objectives: Provide a range of educational materials to teachers at all levels of schooling to assist in myth busting and truth education. Produce and distribute a wide range of PR/ public education content via letterbox drop, commercial, government and not-for-profit media. To hold a number of find out more about asylum seeker sessions in the community To refer those who we educate onto other organisations to get more involved or stay updated.

The structure should be implemented with a degree of Flexibility, no role is concrete, and members may work across all areas of the organisation whilst also retaining the principal responsibility for their certain area.

The time spent by each person would be the equivalent of 3 hours a month (1.5 hours meeting, 1.5 hours of independent activity).

Possible sources of finance: 2 annual fundraisers (such as trivia nights, sausage sizzles) (total beginning target of $3000) Food and drinks for purchase at all of our community information sessions (total target of $500) Community donations (total target of $200) Eventual Cooperate sponsorship (NA to begin with)

Finance growth: As the organisation grows, so should the input from donations and the possibility of corporate sponsorship. 1st 12 months (3,700) 2nd 12 months ($4000) 3rd 12 months ($5000)
