Firstofftheunitedstatesisover$17trillionindebt(Hall)andstillspendingmajoramounts ofmoneydespitethedebt.Infactwespendaround$700billiononmilitary,whichis20%of ourbudget(Klein)whileweonlyspendaround$18billionfundingNASA(Leone).Itis estimatedthatforevery$1weputintofundingNASAweget$14back(Chamberlain) meaningitisveryprofitable.Fromjustlandingonthemoonwegotinventionslikesmoke detectors,waterfilters,swimsuits,joysticks,andmanymore(Otto)Andthatisjustfromour firsttriptothemoon.Onthemoonthesoilisrichwithhelium3(energy)weusehelium3in nuclearfusionwhichisacleansourceofenergy.Withtheamountofhelium3onthemoon wecouldprovideenergyforgenerationstocome(Energy).Itisestimatedthatalongwith theenergybenefitofthemoonsoilitwouldbeworth$2millionperKg(Energy).Ifwewere toincreasefundingtoNASAforthepurposeofcolonizingthemoonimaginetheimmense economic,technological,andpowerbenefitswewouldget.Itisestimatedthatitwouldcost around$300billiontocolonizethemoon,notincludingupkeep.Topayforthiswewould increasetaxesanddefundthemilitarytoonly$450billion.Alongwiththetaxmoneywe wouldsellspacebonds(likewarbondsexceptforcolonizingthemoon)sothatprivate investorscanputintheirownamountsofcash. Althoughcolonizingthemoonisanobvioussolutiontomanyproblemstherearemany peoplewhodoubtitssuccessforavarietyofreasons,thosebeingthatitis unrealistic/impossibleandthatitcoststoomuch. Accordingtoavastmajorityofpeoplecolonizingthemoonisimpossible,whichisfalse. Wecurrentlyhavethetechnologytocolonizethemoonbytheyear2020(Can).Andalong withthefundingNASAwouldreceivewecouldpossiblydoitsooner.Peoplealsothinkthat itiswaytoocostly,whileitistruethatcolonizingthemoonwouldnotbecheapitisstilla fractionofwhatwepayeveryyearformilitary,anditismoreprofitable. Ibelievethatthepotentialofthemoonhasonlyjustbeenrealized,thatthemoonisearth 2.0.Ifeelverystronglythatweshouldtakeactionandcolonizeitbeforeitistoolatefor reasonslike,energy,money,andoverpopulation.Whileitispriceyitwillpayoffintheend.
