PURPOSE
Ladies and gentlemen: We are pleased to announce the 2014 edition of the International Conference on Screw Machines. Under the sponsorship of the VDI Society for Energy and Environment (VDI-GEU) and in collaboration with the TU Dortmund University, the conference is being held for the ninth time since 1984. Once again, the conference will provide manufacturers, service providers, operators and scientists a forum for the exchange of ideas in the areas of scientic research, industrial development and practical application of screw machines. The conference focuses on screw machines for application as compressors, expanders, and vacuum and uid pumps. While screw machines have been in practical application for 70 years, analytical methods, experimental techniques and manufacturing technologies are all moving forward, each providing opportunities for further advancement in screw machine capability and application possibilities. You are invited to take part in the discussions by submitting a paper for the 2014 conference. Papers on all topics relevant to screw machines will be considered. This includes studies on mechanical and uid design techniques, noise and vibration, manufacturing issues, and challenges and opportunities in the practical application of screw machines. We expect that there will be valuable contributions in many areas, including dry running unsynchronized rotors, machines with variable pitch rotors and simulation of the complex two-phase ows in oil-injected machines. Help make this conference a success by offering a contribution on your own innovative solutions and concepts for design, production, operation, new applications and eld experiences with screw machines. Provide your contribution to the 9th International Conference on Screw Machines by submitting an abstract by February 14th, 2014 to www.vdi.de/screwmachines. Authors will be informed of the decision to accept papers by March 28, 2014 and nal submissions will then be due on May 23, 2014. Due to the ofcial language of the conference all abstracts and papers must be written in English. Thank you for your contribution to the success of the 2014 conference. SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS
General information: If you want to present a contribution, your submission must include: The meaningful title of the paper Details of the speaker and no more than two co-authors (title, rst name, surname, position in the company, department, address, telephone and fax numbers, email address) Details of the content with specic information not exceeding 1 DIN A4 page The topic group the paper is classied under A statement specifying what is new in your presentation A bibliography of your previous publications about this subject Please note that abstracts and nal papers will be only accepted if they are uploaded to the conferences website: www.vdi.de/screwmachines All submissions must be either Microsoft WORD or PDF les. Your abstract must be received by February 14th, 2014. The program committee will decide on acceptance of the paper and where it will appear in the conference program. Submission of the nal manuscripts If your paper is accepted you will be invited to submit the nal manuscript which must be received by May 23rd, 2014. If you receive notication of acceptance you will also receive instructions concerning manuscripts and a question form to be returned to the VDI Wissensforum. The accepted papers will be printed in the conference proceedings provided to the conference participants and published as a VDI-Bericht.

GENERAL INFORMATION
The conference will last 2 days. The ofcial language of the conference will be English. No simultaneous translation will be provided. The conference program will be available in June 2014.

PARTICIPATION FEE
Speakers (one person per paper) will receive a 50 % discount on the regular conference fee for their participation in the conference. Discounts cannot be accumulated. Travel expenses will not be paid.

Conference attendance conditions and terms: By way of your registration you accept the conference attendance conditions and

terms of VDI Wissensforum GmbH as binding. Any cancellation of your registration must be made in writing. We will charge you only an administrative fee of 50.00 plus German VAT if you
cancel your registration earlier than 14 days ahead of the conference date. Any cancellation that reaches us after this deadline will entail the conference attendance fee as stated in our invoice to be charged in full. The date of the post office stamp of your written cancellation will be the decisive c riterion. In that case, we will gladly mail you the con ference documents on request. Subject to agreement, you may name a substitute participant. Individual parts and sections of conferences and seminars cannot be booked. You will be informed without delay if an event has to be cancelled for unforeseeable reasons. In that instance, you will be entitled only to a refund of your conference attendance fee if already paid. We reserve the right to exchange speakers and/or change the program sequence in exceptional cases.
