A Different Perspective Charles Ian M. Seedo "Well, because he thought it was good sport.

Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn." This line by Alfred Pennyworth, butler to the millionaire and covert hero of Gotham City, Brune Wayne. Wayne was pondering what the Joker's motives were, when Alfred suggested a complex idea. For many years, the world regarded the famous Joker villain as a character confined only to Cesar Romero and Jack Nicholson. The Joker is probably the one of best, if not the best, comic book anarchists of all time. But a movie emerged last 2008 that reinvented our point of views on the Batman and the Joker. That movie was titled "The Dark Knight" and directed by Christopher Nolan. Joker was not anymore the humorous persona, but he was pure evil, chaotic, morally perverted and had a malicious sense of humor, and portrayed by the late Heath Ledger. When initial casting occured, millions of fans all ocer the world were shocked as Ledger was announced to play the Joker. Many buffed comic fans deeply criticized director Nolan's decision on bringing up an actor who had few successes in movies. But when the movie came, Nolan's team dramatically changed the course of storytelling in movies. Batman and his beloved City of Gotham were left in a total wreck after the Joker terrorized the souls of the citizens of Gotham. Terrorism, as defined by the Webster's Dictionary for Students, is the use of violence as means of achieving a goal. The Joker had one goal, and that is to show that people are corruptible, or maybe just to "watch the world burn". In the movie, he said the latter goal, but nobody really knows what his purpose was. For a lot of times, he lied to various characters just to ensure that his plans would work and to benefit only himslef, not anyone else. He even killed his hired goons in the opening bank robbery scene. Did he even have a good sense of loyalty, honor, and respect? Did he even care for them? No. Because he is the Joker, he is longs nothing else but to satisfy himself. The Joker is a psychopathic, mass murdering, schizophrenic clown. He does not understand and get into others' feelings. He just loves his job of being an agent of chaos and anarchy, bringing down people who want to serve good to his fellowmen, and constantly fighting Batman. He said that his struggle with Batman is what defines him. He wants a world without rules. Also, he does not make plans that benefit

others; he wants to do things that benefit only himself. He is also a clever mastermind, as he started our as a small-time crook to the biggest villain in Gotham, as well as toppling over the mob bosses. Moreover, he showed that everybody is corruptible, especially by greed, as he paid various cops in the city's Major Crimes Unit to look out for him. He also planned out his terror acts undetected. The yin and yang of comic superheroes; Batman and the Joker. Batman is the hidden identity of billionaire Bruce Wayne. Wayne loves his home city of Gotham, and he wants to get rid of evil within the ranks of the government by teaming up with Major Crimes Unit Lieutenant James Gordon and the neophyte District Attorney Harvey Dent. The triumvirate gets corrupted by the Joker, as Dent gets filled by anger and revenge, making all their legal efforts meaningless. Batman chooses to take the blame instead of blaming Dent, despite his big and vigilante-like efforts against crimes. He made decisions that seem ethically or morally impossible, so Dent's legal legacy, for the first time in Gotham for decades, may live on. According to Thomas Hobbes in his work "Leviathan", man is a rational being, and the "state of nature", which is similar to an uncivilized world, is nasty, poor, and is in a constant state of war. The Joker is a murdering psychopath. Does that mean that he is not civilized, or is he trying to show that the world we are living in is not civilized enough? Our country is trapped in one of the biggest political scandals in history. It is very clear that someone has stolen the peoples' money worth roughly 10 billion pesos. The alleged person behind the scandal is Janet Lim-Napoles, who recently surrendered to the authorities and awaiting trial. She also allegedly detained a whistleblower of the scandal, Benhur Luy. And the big hiatus there is that she is not capable of stealing lots of funds by herself, but she allegedly had help from big-time government officials, not to mention senators, to fuel her propaganda. This fueled a nationwide rally, and made only via online petitions and campaigns. And another note, the president himself ordered to detain Napoles by the Philippine National Police and not by the National Bureau of Investigatoon, as he suspected a mole in the ranks. This scandal proves that we are corruptible and greedy. Despite of the president's famous line "Tuwid na Daan" which literally means "straight path", it seems that his officials and other Filipinos were bent by greed, corruption, and evil. Our world is probably gearing itself toward another world war, as tensions rise soaring high in Syria. The Syrian government allegedly used chemical warfare in the country's civil war, which violates laws of the United Nations regarding warfare. And the president of United States of America Barack Obama clearly

and publicized intentions on taking military action against the Syrian government. The current pope of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis, tweeted and wrote to Russian President Vladimir Putin that they should not let senseless attacks in Syria occur. Obama warns that if the world just looks and do nothing, more chemical attacks will occur, much like the Holocaust. If ever he succeeds in implementing his plan, this might result to political tensions and cause a large number of casualities. But should Obama take the international laws in his own hands? Should he just leave the matter to the United Nations? Will he be a "Black Hitler", or be a "Dark Knight" trying to do the decisions no one else can make? Crminals are not complicated; they always have a goal to do. Some criminals may have vague motives, like causing havoc for no distinct reasons at all. Or, they work for a great cause, which may seem small at first. Some warriors, as they call themselves, are called for a great cause; religion. Islamic warriors, commonly known as jihads, are to promote their religion, as well as terminating other religions. Some criminals may have been pushed to do something wrong in the eyes of society. They steal, or even kill, just to survive. Felon choose to outlaw, not because they have no other choice, but because it is necessary for them to do so. The world is full of accepting religions and beliefs for outlaws, but they choose not to change. Criminals have been developed in character in various great films like The Godfather and The Dark Knight. Some criminals, even up to today, just want to live in this world, but using rather anti-social ways. Some fuel the world with great terrorism, and flooding our communities with fear. Some want to change the world, and replace them with their own philosophies. And some just want to cause chaos because they just want to watch the world burn. They do things because that is what is morally true to them; criminals live in a different perspective.
