Position Title: Reports to: Department: Date Revised: FLSA Status: Summary: This individual assists with research activities under some oversight. These activities are directly or indirectly related to the development of new products or improvement of the existing ones. The individual will assist the Research Scientists and other R&D technicians with experimental research protocols and or analytical assays related to the different areas in R&D; Bacteriology, Virology, Serology, Lyophilization, Necropsy and Animal Testing. Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Assists the R&D Scientists in setting up experimental trials, preparing laboratory reagents, materials and conducting some analytical assays. 2. Understands and follows verbal and written laboratory protocols with some oversight. Ensures that all the testing conditions are in place to conduct the requested procedure in accordance with specified protocols and deadlines. 3. Assists the R&D Scientists or other R&D technicians in conducting animal trials; this may include vaccinating, drawing blood, processing samples, post mortem examinations and/or euthanization of laboratory animals as required. 4. Demonstrates intermediate level of multitasking skills to perform low-medium complex laboratory assays and methods; this may include the preparation of reagents, stabilizers, buffers, culture media, agar plates, pH adjustments, Optical Density measurements, determinations of residual moisture or any other new method set by the R&D Scientist. 5. Accurately and efficiently follows up and conducts moderately complex laboratory methods, including but not limited to lyophilization, egg inoculation, egg harvesting, viral and bacterial titrations, serial dilutions, inoculums preparation, etc. 6. Maintains inventory of laboratory supplies and initiate purchase orders to request reagents, laboratory and office supplies in coordination with the R&D Scientists. 7. Records all the data accurately, honestly, legibly and within specified time framesr; this may include but is not limited to test records, laboratory temperature records, equipment log books, manufacture techniques, etc. 8. In accordance with assigned deadlines, reports the collected or generated data to the Scientist in charge. 9. Contributes to the training of a R&D Technician I. 10. Performs duties according to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and company safety procedures. Assists with maintaining SOPs; uses proper change control procedures when drafting or recommending updates. 11. Ensures compliance with the Companys Comprehensive Safety program by knowing and following all safety guidelines, policies, procedures and expectations. 12. Maintains analytical equipment and collaborates with scientists and other fellow technicians to develop preventive and corrective maintenance plans. 13. Occasional weekend and off hour duties will be required. 14. Other duties as assigned by the R&D Scientist or Director of R&D. Qualifications: Must have a minimum of a Bachelor Degree in any Biological Sciences and (1) year of laboratory experience; five (5) years of laboratory experience in a similar field will be considered in lieu of Bachelors degree. The candidate must be able to multitask and follow research protocols with some oversight. Must have the ability to independently conduct moderately complex laboratory methods and procedures. This individual must be a team player with collaborative style, demonstrate being an active listener and have excellent written and verbal skills. Should be enthusiastic about learning new things and have a passion for research. Some weekend and overtime flexibility may be required with short notice.
