We Include Everyone!

! !

Purpose:
RICCs serve four important roles: A) Serve as a place for talking about ! local issues that are important to the lives of people with developmental ! disabilities. B) Reach out to all community members. ! C) Help make changes in the ! community to make it better.
! ! ! !

What we do:
We help people who have disabilities stand up for themselves so that they can have control of their lives. We do this by:

Partners:
The Washtenaw RICC works with the Michigan Developmental Disabilities Council to change local, state and national policies that affect people with developmental disabilities.

Providing training to RICC Members on leadership skill building and SelfDetermination. Self-Determination includes knowing how to ask for what you need (a place to live, getting around in the community, having a job). Sharing information and putting people in touch with transportation representatives (Select Ride, Ann Arbor Transportation Authority-AATA). We attend and encourage others to attend Local Advisory Committee (LACs) meetings to gather information about transportation in our local community. Helping RICC Members talk with their local Senators, Representatives, and other local government officials about whats important to them. Our Public Policy Coordinator keeps RICC Members informed of important issues and laws.

Why you should join:

To give you a chance to talk about issues that are important to you. To be part of our community. To learn more about yourself To learn about Self-Determination To learn more about state policy and how it works. To learn more about our community and to get involved.

D) Tell the Developmental Disabilities ! about local problems for Council people ! with developmental disabilities.
