Angleatrons
Exercise 1: Watch Vi Harts video on angleatrons and answer the questions below. (1) Whats the name of the device used to measure angles?

(2) How can you make a 180 degree angle from a piece of paper?

(3) How can you make a 90 degree angle from a piece of paper?

(4) How can you make a 45 degree angle from a piece of paper?

(5) How can you make a 60 degree angle from a piece of paper?

(6) How can you make a 135 degree angle from a piece of paper?

Exercise 2: Grab a scratch piece of paper. (1) Make a 180 degree angleatron and draw that angle below.

(2) Put three points on the line segment you drew- one on the end points and one in the middle. Name the points from left to right as , and . (3) Read the explanation below carefully a. We call point the vertex of the angle b. We call rays and sides of the angle c. We would name the angle like so: d. This type of angle is called a straight angle.

Exercise 3: Use your scratch piece of paper again. (1) Make a 90 degree angleatron and use it to draw a 90 degree angle below

(4) Put three points on the angle you drew- one on the end points and one at the sharp part of the angle. Name the points from left to right as , and (5) Read the explanation below carefully a. We call point the vertex of the angle b. We call rays and sides of the angle c. We would name the angle like so: d. This type of angle is called a right angle. (6) Make something pretty below using colors and your angleatron.

Exercise 4: Use your scratch piece of paper again. (1) Make a 45 degree angleatron and use it to draw a 45 degree angle below

(2) Put three points on the angle you drew- one on the end points and one at the sharp part of the angle. Name the points from left to right as , and (3) Read the explanation below carefully and fill in the blanks a. We call point ______the vertex of the angle b. We call rays ____ and ____ sides of the angle c. We would name the angle like so: ______ d. This type of angle is called an acute angle. (Any angle less than 90 degrees is called acute) (4) Make something pretty below using colors and your 45 degree angleatron and your 90 degree angleatorn. (Remember in the video, she was able to make a pretty cool cube.)

Exercise 4: Use your scratch piece of paper again. (2) Make two 60 degree angleatrons (recall that 60 is a third of 180 so you can use your 180 degree angleatron and fold it somehow) and use them to draw a 60 degree angle and a 120 degree angle below.

(5) Put three points on the angles you drew- one on the end points and one at the sharp part of the angle. Name the points of the acute angle from left to right as , and . Name the points of the obtuse angle from left to right as , and (6) Read the explanation below carefully and fill in the blanks a. We call points ______and _____ the vertices of the angles b. We call rays ____ and ____ sides of the acute angle and rays_____ and ____ sides of the obtuse angle. c. We would name the angles like so: ______ and ______ d. What do you think obtuse means? (7) Make something pretty below using colors and your two new angleatrons. (With the 60 degree angleatron Vi Hart was able to make equilateral triangles and with the 120 degree angleatron she was able to make hexagons- 6 sided figures.)
