Assessment

The following assessment requirements apply to all AUSTSWIM courses listed above unless noted otherwise and must be satisfactorily completed within 12 months of the course commencement date. Theory assessment Demonstration of skills for teaching purposes Lesson planning Rescue Techniques (only applicable to AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water SafetyTMcourse) Practical teaching hours including observation and supervised teaching Teaching assessment Current cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) award. Signed Teacher Declaration.

Accreditation
On successful completion candidates will be an accredited AUSTSWIM TeacherTM in the area training undertaken and issued an AUSTSWIM Teacher LicenceTM. A Statement of Attainment from the National Community Recreation Industry Training Package will also be issued. An AUSTSWIM Teacher LicenceTM is valid for 3 years. Note: if you complete an extension course your AUSTSWIM Teacher LicenceTM will be automatically renewed for 3 years.

AUSTSWIM recommends that AUSTSWIM TeachersTM obtain liability insurance. AUSTSWIM, in association with our insurance brokers - Insurance Made Easy, have an arrangement in place that provides the opportunity for you to make real savings on the cost of your insurance.

Professional Development
AUSTSWIM TeachersTM are required to undertake professional development to maintain accreditation. AUSTSWIM offer a range of conferences, workshops for AUSTSWIM TeachersTM to attend in their local state or territory. It is a great way to update and learn new skills.

AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water SafetyTM


Provides candidates with essential competencies to teach swimming and water safety to persons from four years of age to adults in swimming pools and conned natural shallow water venues. Duration: 20 hours OR Partial Theory DVD and Practical Presentation 16 hours Content: Overview of AUSTSWIM and the aquatic industry Legal responsibilities for the AUSTSWIM TeacherTM How people learn Being an effective teacher Aquatic safety, survival and rescue skills Principles of movement in water Water familiarisation, buoyancy, mobility and safety Teaching safer diving skills Towards efcient stroke development Plan, deliver and review a lesson

AUSTSWIM Teacher of Aquatics for People with a DisabilityTM


Provides candidates with competencies to deliver safe and enjoyable aquatic activities to people with a disability. Duration: 15 hours Content: Awareness Teaching approaches Groupings Planning and programming Principles of movement in water Safety Entries, supports and exits

AUSTSWIM Teacher of Infant & Preschool AquaticsTM AUSTSWIM Training Program


AUSTSWIM offer a range of accredited training programs to provide you with the necessary knowledge and skills to become an accredited AUSTSWIM TeacherTM: Provides candidates with competencies to deliver safe and enjoyable aquatic activity programs for children between the age of 6 months and 48 months. Duration: 16 hours Content: Philosophy of Infant & preschool aquatics Principles of teacher, parent & child relationships Infant health and safety Methods of water familiarisation Development Programming

Pre-requisites:
Candidates may enrol into an AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water SafetyTM course at 16 years of age but are not eligible to become an accredited AUSTSWIM TeacherTM until they are 17 years of age. Candidates are required to have a reasonable level of tness and swimming ability.
