Tie the string so that the mark is just on the nail. Set the bob into a conical pendulum oscillation with a small angle displacement to the vertical. Obtain time for 10 oscillations and period T seconds and square for period as indicated in the table. Then reduce the string to a length D and repeat the experiment. determine time t for 10 oscillations, period and square of period, filling and completing table 1. Table.1

2.(B) You are provided with the following: - A glass prism - 4 optical pins - White piece of paper mounted on a soft board

(a) Draw the outline of the glass prism on the plain paper mounted on the soft board. Label the vertices of the triangle as shown in figure 4 below. Note that AB and AC are sides of the prism that are equal in length. Mark a point O on the outline drawn. Draw a normal to the face AB via point O as shown in the diagram. (i) Measure an angle of incidence of 300 at the point of incidence O. Stick two pins P1 and P2 to mark the incident ray. 5

Place the glass prism on the outline and view from side AC to see the images of pins P1 and P2. Stick pin P3 (search pin) below side AC as show in the figure such that it is in a straight line with the images of P1 and P2. Stick the fourth pin P4 so that it lies in the same straight line with P3 and the images of P1 and P2. (ii) Remove the prism and pins. Join points P3 and P4 in a straight line to meet AC at E. Join point E to O. Measure the angle of refraction r. r = (i) Repeat the experiment for different angles of incidence, say 350, 400, 450, 500, 550 and 600 and record the results in the table.
