Target is to get a -00: !etainaility$ i"e"$ all connections maintained until their normal release"
Poor !etainaility is typically due to

!etainaility is to e monitored independently for the different !AB types +e"g" 6peech$ C6 =ideo$ P6

0n %G a ne) mechanism is availale to rescue some dropped calls +oth C6 and P6. due to !< 8ailure?

One important difference et)een the Circuit 6)itched +C6. and Pac*et 6)itched +P6. domains is that in
the C6 domain$ the end2to2end services +voice$ video2telephony$ C6 data. can e maintained only if all

8or P6 data$ to accommodate the ursty nature of the traffic$ lin*s from different layers can e
independent" 8or eDample$ the Pac*et 'ata Protocol +P'P. conteDt is preserved$ )hile the !adio and
!adio Access Bearers are reconfigured or disconnected during lo) activity periods" The ehavior of an
8TP session is another eDampleI )hen !adio Bearers are dropped or eDperience a high loc* error rate$
the 8TP might time out$ even if the P'P conteDt is active"
The interdependence et)een layers complicates data service optimizationI all layers must e
considered"
