for the common good

We have all known the long loneliness and we have learned that the only solution is love and that love comes with community. Dorothy Day, The Long Loneliness: The Autobiography of the Legendary Catholic Social Activist The inspiration behind The Roundtable came from interviews with over 50 philanthropists, leaders and practitioners in Canada and the US. The opinions expressed in these dialogues led to further discussions surrounding the transformational nature of philanthropy and the spiritual life, the deep need for a philanthropic community, issues surrounding the transfer of wealth to future generations, and the commitment North Americans have to seeing the world enhanced for the common good.

The Roundtable

Although Christian philanthropists in Canada face many of the same challenges as their US neighbors, the potential for them to discuss these topics as well as inspire each other in a collaborative arena is far from realized. The Roundtable seeks to address this issue by offering the following services: -A confidential, safe, environment for the development of peer relationships, the exploration of ideas, shared experiences and encouragement in the spiritual life. -A dynamic set of events and experiences throughout the year that not only bring members together, but through top speakers and relevant topics, both inspire and challenge members in their philanthropic (and spiritual) journey. Included in these events are luncheon series across Canada, The Annual Roundtable (this year with Father Richard Rohr in Santa Fe, New Mexico), The Q Conference: Summit on Engaging Culture for the Common Good, Global Perspectives Seminar (at various places around the world) and biannual NextGen events. -An archive of thoughtfully curated philanthropic research including studies, articles, podcasts, book reviews and videos that focus on: -ways to enrich and enhance your philanthropic efforts -innovative charities who are making a difference -cultivating the developing world -issues related to the transfer of wealth to future generations -considerations for younger philanthropists as they engage in their personal business or family foundation The Roundtable aspires to create a community endeavoring to rediscover the beauty and joy of following Christ through generous living and service to the common good.
