THIS HOUSE BELIEVES THAT A STUDENTS EXCELLENCE BEGINS AT HOME (REPLY SPEECH) The honourable speaker of the house, the respected ministers of the government, fellow opposition members and members of the Parliament. I would like to reaffirm our stand that ----------------------------------Members of the House, For as many years as there has been a place called home, we have been seeking ways to fashion the best educational experience and essence for our children to set them forth fully prepared to meet lifes challenges. Members of the house. The opposition members keep asking and raise the question on how students excellence can never begin at home. But we have provide you with enough points to make it falls. So, how do we know what makes the students excel? Before the children starts schooling, home is their first school. At home, parents taught them everything possible to get them ready and geared up for lifes challenges ahead. A strong and well kept home and family physically, emotionally and spiritually will bear the children of hope to excel and conquer their future excellence. Neglected child will become grumple at school. Often cause menace and troubles in school and

outside, thus potraying the weak family structure and background. When this has happened, when will the students have the time to excel in all aspects that they do? Even the academic excellence is a far cry from this kind of students. Members of the house, Even the best of school cannot provide the excellent measures aimed for the students if the students are not ready to except it.

In fact, what makes a good school has less to do with the configuration of the school or the how excellent the school perform on national exams. There are successful schools in the inner self of each students souls that drive them to excel regardless of ...... Members of the house, Now, I would like to recap the points put forward by the government team. The first point put forward by us is that Parents role as childs first agent of socialization. As the first agent of children of socialization, parents are being the first teacher in life and that fact alone proposes that students excellence begins at home. Parents acts as a stepping stone and will be the catalyst in future excellence as children will grow up. This points is strengthened by the case study by Kendall-Tacket which clearly shows that home is the root of students achievement. Members of the house, my dear deputy prime minister had raised an

issue on home as the place where one learns the discipline and motivation to achieve excellence. As parents become the role model and parenting stems from home, students acquire discipline from home. Good home equals to good parenting. Good parenting equals to good discipline and good discipline equals to good academic performance and likewise. Parents expectation plays a role as motivation. No expectations means no aims and vice versa. Parents are the essential drive that children respond greatly to. The last point put forth by the government team is socio economic background as catalyst to excellence. As she had mentioned earlier, money effects learning as it able to provide students with adequate stationaries, extra tuitions, reference books and even opt for private schooling. So, members of the house, I believe I have said enough to convince you that students excellence begins at home.
