General information
The organizational framework of educational activities follows the classification of natural sciences with regard to interdisciplinary approach and is closely connected to research in individual fields of science: biology, chemistry, Earth sciences, mathematics, and physics. Information about the doctoral study programs and branches can be found here. All doctoral study programs at the Faculty of Science are accredited both in the Czech and English languages; prospective students thus apply for the programs either in the English or Czech languages .

Admission requirements
Students are expected to have a good background in the field as well as sufficient language skills to understand fully the study materials. Applicants are required to hold a corresponding degree from a university. The faculty encourages applications from all students and does not discriminate on the basis of national origin, race, gender or religion. The applicant has to submit following documents (if not required otherwise all materials must be in Czech or English or must be original documents accompanied by Czech or English translations ): RECOGNITION OF FOREIGN CERTIFICATES AND DEGREES: Application for the recognition of foreign education in the Czech Republic (this requirement is in compliance with the Articles 89 and 90 of Act No. 111/98 Coll. The Higher Education Act of the Czech Republic ). PLEASE NOTE: Acknowledgement of the previous education is an essential condition for the Ph.D. admission process. Please remember that it is required to complete the process of the recognition before your arrival to the Czech Republic. More info about this process can be found here APPLICATION FORM Do not forget to fill the name of your future supervisor at Faculty of Science. Your future supervisor can be found at the university list of supervisors. There are all supervisors of Masaryk University, so choose some from Faculty of Science and do contact him and speak about your study under his supervision!!! Then send the completed and the signed form together with the other documents by regular mail. CURRICULUM VITAE (i.e., a one-page outline of the students professional background, experience and skills) AN ESSAY (up to two pages of format-free text in length) explaining the reasons why the student should be accepted for study at the faculty and what study program he or she wishes to apply for. PHOTOCOPIES OF ALL DIPLOMAS AND TRANSCRIPTS from all universities attended (the doctoral degree program requirement is a Master's degree in the corresponding field of study). TWO LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION from persons familiar with the student's academic background. A LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION from the future supervisor at Faculty of Science, Masaryk University.

Open days
Faculty of Science does not organize special Open Days for prospective Doctoral students but they are welcome to visit our faculty during Open Days for prospective Bachelor or Master students (see here) or it is possible to come to the International Relations Office after prior arrangement. There is no application deadline, you can apply all over the year.

Admission procedure fees


There are no admission procedure fees for foreign applicants.

Entrance examinations and dates


The entrance examinations are organised all over the year. The student is required to pass the entrance examination in the appropriate degree program at Masaryk University in person; if this is not possible, the evaluation will be made on the basis of e-mail correspondation held in English.

What happens after you apply


Once the International Office receives all the documents necessary for an admission (mentioned on this web page), the office send them to rectorate of Masaryk University to manage a recognition of the previous education (http://www.muni.cz/study/recognition?lang=en ). This can take some time (months) to manage this. After successful recogniton of previous education the International Relations Office send all the documents together with the admission form to the study field to manage the admission. During the admission proccess you can be granted the maximum of 100 points. To be accepted you have to receive at least 85 points. Your presentation during the exam is evaluated by an admission committee that decides upon the number of received points. After receiving these documents back with the result "accepted", the office prepares acceptation documents and let them sign by the dean. The final decision lies on the dean of faculty. After getting this signature from the dean of the Faculty the documents are sent directly to applicant. Applicant with visa has to use these documents to get the visa.

Life in Czech Republic


New changes in conditions for the entry and stay on the territory of the Czech Republic from 2011
We recommend you to read the amendment to the Act on Residence of Foreign Nationals' in the Territory of the Czech Republic which entered into force on January 1, 2011 and follow its regulations!!!

Life expenses
IT IS NECESSARY to come to Czech Republic with at least 20 000 CZK ( 800) for life expenses in the first month of stay.

Insurance

The Czech health insurance costs around 15 000 CZK ( 600) per year.

Study Programs in the English Language - Tuition fees


The tuition fee for the doctoral study program in the English language is 5000 per academic year, to be paid by the employer, government (scholarship) or the student himself/herself. The tuition is payable in September (by those who start in the fall semester) or February (by those who start in the spring semester), and is not refundable. Students must have satisfactory English language skills .

Study Programs in the Czech Language - Tuition waivers


Students who will study the programs in the Czech language are eligible for the annual stipend (CZK 7000, i.e. 260 per month, which roughly corresponds to the monthly living costs) and they do not pay any tuition. Such students have to prove either their satisfactory Czech language skills or they are advised to participate on a 2-year Czech language course from the beginning of their study , offered free of charge by the Faculty of Science. The graduate students may also work as teaching assistants in the corresponding departments or ask their prospective supervisors for additional financial aid. International students studying in czech language study programme can apply for a scholarship from South Moravian Centre For International Mobility. More informations can be found here.
