A new programme has been launched to empower people to inspire and organise their colleagues, friends and family to get active. Supported *dult "earning Centre Supported @earning Volunteer re,uired assisting the tutor N learning assistant in a class of &1$# learners with learning difficulties, to support and encourage the learners to be as self managing and independent as possible. 654 6hecks must be taken. An interest in basic cookery or arts and craft would help but training given. *)/ C&%C/R% W&'(%) !he work of Age 6oncern Woking could not happen without the group of dedicated volunteers of all ages who provide care and opportunities for older people who are involved in every aspect of Age 6oncernFs work. Be0rienders -W=C22).H who can spare an hour or so each week, are kind and patient and have empathy with older people. All necessary training will be given. 2ou will need good communication skills, an understanding of confidentiality, a sense of humour, an understanding of the needs of older people, sensitivity and reliability. +ire Risk Checkers -W=C'2%.1 trained by Surrey Fire and 5escue Service you will carry out home fire risk checks in the homes of older people in the 4orough of Woking. !hese visits will be done in pairs, with one volunteer being an Age 6oncern Woking befriender, so that our other services can be offered at the same time. ,olunteer +riend CW&' ?B90D 5 4ecome a friend to an older, vulnerable person. 6ommit to appro3 $ hour each week. /ake a cup of tea, have a chat, give support. +undraising; (n #e$oria$ )i1ing 5 Surrey H ?n order to e3pand the work of the Society, so that even more people with dementia and their carers can be helped and supported, we need to raise funds. !his new community fundraising opportunity available in all parts of Surrey involves raising awareness of the work of the Society and the ?n /emoriam giving opportunity with bereaved families and friends and local funeral directors. 2ou will be visiting local funeral directors to introduce the work of the Society and to gain agreement to distribute and display in memoriam leaflets and envelopes. +undraising; #e$ory Walks 4 Surrey CWorking 0ro$ 2o$e.D H /emory Walk is the SocietyFs flagship fundraising event with walks taking place throughout September. All money raised is used to support services for people with dementia and their families and also raises awareness of dementia and the SocietyFs work in the community. !his role is essential to support the 6ommunity Fundraiser in planning, organising, delivering and evaluating flagship /emory Walks. !he role is fle3ible and the specific commitment will be agreed between you and the 6ommunity Fundraiser. As this is a time limited -annual. opportunity, it will re,uire an increased time commitment in the run up to the event. "lanning starts in April, with an increased level of activity in September. Support Ser1ice Bletchingley -W=C$2 #.H !his role will involve supporting staff in the ;ay 6entre by chatting and engaging with people with dementia, helping with activities and refreshments and ensuring that clients feel comfortable. We hope that you will be able to offer a few hours each week and provide some continuity over a number of months. Support Ser1ice Supper Club; 2asle$ere CW&'?2B?D !his role will involve assisting staff and helping with refreshments, receiving and chatting to visitors at our Supper 6lub for people living with dementia and their families. !he supper club takes place on the first Wednesday of each month between ) and & pm. ,olunteer Co5ordinator 2asle$ere -W=C$2 2.H !his role will involve assisting with the recruitment, selection and placement of volunteers and ensuring they receive ade,uate induction and support. !his role helps to ensure that we have the people we need to raise money, improve awareness, help behind the scenes and provide services to anyone living with dementia and those who care for them. !his role will re,uire appro3imately $12 hours per week but would be fle3ible. Washing5-p ,olunteers -W=C$ #2.H !he team at the 4radbury 6entre desperately need volunteers who are happy to clear and wash up cutlery, crockery and glasses. !his is a valuable role as it frees up the time of the support workers, allowing them to focus completely on the care of their clients.
