This request for information and documents is submitted pursuant to article I, section 3(b) of the
Cal ifornia Constitution' and Government Code sections 6250, et seq. Request is hereby made for the
following public records:
I. Please identify the total number of applications received for job openings within the
City of Oakland Police Department during the past five (5) years. Please specify
the number of applications for each year and the job classifications of each.
2. Please identify the number of qualified applications received for job openings
within the City of Oakland Police Department during the past five (5) years. Please
specify the number of applications for each year and the job classifications of each.
3. Please identify the number of job openings within the City of Oakland Police

Proposition 56 was overwhelmingly passed by the citizens of California in 2006 to establish a Constitutional
right of access to government information and expanded the rights set forth in the CPRA (Gov. Code 6250 et seq.).
article I, section 3(b)(l) of the California Constitution states "The people have the right of access to information
concerning the conduct of the people's business, and, therefore, the meetings of public bodies and the writings of public
officials and agencies shall be open to public scrutiny." Section 3(b)(2) states that any authority "shall be broadly
construed if it furthers the people's right of access, and narrowly construed if it limits the right of access."

involuntary, including retirement. Please specify the number of separation for each
year, the job classifications of each separation, and whether the separation was
employee or employer initiated.
As used herein, the term "writing" shall mean handwriting, typewriting, printing, photostating,
photographing, and every other means of recording any form of communication or representation, including
letters, words, pictures, signs, or symbols or combinations thereof, and any and all papers, maps, magnetic
or paper tapes, photographic films and prints, magnetic or punch cards, disks, drums, and other documents.
Demand is hereby made that within ten days from receipt of this request a determination is made
whether the City of Oakland will produce, in whole or in part, the aforementioned requested public records
in your possession. Should you deny any of the above requested records, please set forth the names, tit les,
and positions of each person responsible for the denial and the reasons therefor. Further, please advise as
to the estimate of any photocopying expense necessitated by this request.
