Introduction In this research project , we decided to talk about the effects of the chocolate on our bodies .

the reason why we choose this subject , is that :chocolate eating is very common among all ages and in a frequent manner so , we should know what are the advantages and the disadvantages , in order to prevent ourselves , our families and our society from the detrimental effects ( at which they are wide , and may affect our health in an irreversible manner ) . in this project we worked in a group of 3 , we helped each other to make this project in this way .

Advantages : 1)contains essential elements and nutrients such as iron, calcium and potassium, and vitamins A, B1, C, D and E. 2)Cocoa powder is also the highest natural source for Magnesium, its deficiency is linked with hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, joint problems and premenstrual tension. It is a pre-menstrual drop in progesterone levels which is responsible for the violent mood swings familiar to so many women and their families, adding magnesium to a diet has been proved to increase pre-menstrual progesterone levels, reducing or eliminating the problem. 3)There are benefits for men too, as well as the high magnesium content, beneficial for the heart and hypertension, the fat in high quality plain chocolate can be considered cholesterol free, as studies indicate it does not fur up the arteries or contribute to high cholesterol levels. 4) Chocolate is good for our mental health, it contains seratonin and phenylethylamine both are mood lifting agents found naturally in the human brain and released when we are feeling happy or in love. 5)Chocolate is also an excellent nutritional source, a single chocolate chip can provide enough energy for the average man to walk about one hundred and seventy feet or fifty metres.

Disadvantages :

Although chocolate's sweet, pleasant taste may put a smile on your face, there are some disadvantages associated with eating this rich food. 1) High Calorie Content Chocolate is calorie-dense, bar of chocolate contains 210 calories. This amount is more than many other snack foods provide. Consuming too many high-calorie foods can lead to obesity. While you can burn calories through exercise, doing so with chocolate would be time consuming. It would take 57 minutes of weightlifting or 43 minutes of water aerobics to burn 210 calories. 2) High Saturated Fat Content Among disadvantages of eating chocolate is it is not only high in total fat, but high in saturated fat. Each 1.55-oz. serving of chocolate contains 8 g of saturated fat, a type of fat that may increase your risk of heart disease. Saturated fat can increase your levels of "bad" LDL cholesterol. To reduce your risk of heart disease, the American Heart Association suggests a daily limit of 16 g or less of saturated fat. Chocolate provides half of this amount in each 1.55-oz. serving.

3) High Sugar Content Chocolate has a rich flavor not only because of the fat it contains, but also from high sugar content. Each 1.55-oz. serving, or about one bar, contains 24 g of sugar. Although sugar, as with other carbohydrates, can provide energy, it has several nutritional drawbacks. Sugar can promote tooth decay, and a diet high in sugar may increase your risk of heart disease.

4) Low in Vitamins and minerals: Chocolate can have a detrimental effect on your health if you eat it instead of a healthier snack, because of its few beneficial nutrients. Chocolate is not a significant source of vitamins, and provides just 8 percent of the dailysuggested intake of calcium and 2 percent of the dailysuggested intake of iron.

Questionnaires: In order to make our research question more realistic we did an interview with 20 persons from different ages and different genders. These are the questions , and the results are shown in the table.. 1)how old are you ? a) 0-10 b)11-16 c)17-25 d)26-35 e)36-45 f)46+ 2)gender : a)male b) female

3)how often do you eat chocolate ? a)0-3/week b)4-6/week c)7-9/week d)10+/week 4)do you think that chocolate is good or bad ? a)good b) bad 5) do you complain of any of these diseases ? ( hypertension , diabetes mellitus , obesity )

As we notice from the graph above , the 35% of the people that we interview them , complain from DM , HT , or obesity . if we want to show these results in details : 7out of 20 , complain of these disease . Majority of these people are more than 46 years ( we can consider them elderly persons ) , as we know that the

risk of the diabetes mellitus and hypertension is more common among elderly people , and in this case we notice also that they eat chocolate in frequent way during 1 week .
