In the rebellious spirit of queers who speak, sing and dance against injustice and boredom, a group of Torontos artists and activists will be presenting a cabaret evening to focus on the upcoming Olympics in Sochi, Russia. A country that is becoming increasingly perilous for LGBTQ people. In 2013, Russia enacted laws that in part bans the distribution of "propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations" to minors, which effectively makes it illegal to suggest that gay relationships are equal to heterosexual relationships or to distribute material on gay rights. Since the passage of the laws, activists have been arrested and a the country has seen a surging incidence of hate crimes motivated by homophobia. A law prohibiting gay pride parades in Moscow for one-hundred years was also passed. The artists and activists who are involved in PRIDE HOUSE CABARET are creating a space to protest the current situation for LGBTQ people in Russia and that an international event like the Olympics would be hosted in such a toxic and dangerous place. PRIDE HOUSE CABARET features music and performances by seasoned cast including Donnarama, Amy Lester, Brock Hessel, Belle Jumelles, Lauryn Kronick and Alvis Parsley, Troy Jackson, Roy Mitchell, Steen Star, Leelando Calrissian of "Boylesque," David Bateman and Ryan G Hinds!
