REDEEMER LUTHERAN COLLEGE COURSE OUTLINE MATHS C Year 12 Global Aims

Having completed the course of study, students of Mathematics C should: have significantly broadened their mathematical knowledge and skills be able to recognise when problems are suitable for mathematical analysis and solution, and be able to attempt such analysis or solution with confidence be aware of the uncertain nature of their world and be able to use mathematics to assist in making informed decisions in life-related situations have experienced diverse applications of mathematics have positive attitudes to the learning and practice of mathematics comprehend mathematical information which is presented in a variety of forms communicate mathematical information in a variety of forms be able to use justification in and with mathematics be able to benefit from the availability of a wide range of technologies be able to choose and use mathematical instruments appropriately be able to recognise functional relationships and applications.

Lesson Details
The subject is allocated seven lessons per two week cycle and for each of these it is expected that the student will do an additional 30 minutes homework. Homework is usually be teacher set though occasions will arise for which the student will be required to make appropriate decisions regarding the work to be covered. Students will be expected at all times to take responsibility for corrections of wrong work either by their own attempts or with the assistance of teachers and peers.

Summary Results
The grades recorded on the student profile will provide evidence for summary results at the end of each semester, at times of review and at Exit. Summary results will be allocated according to the following guidelines describing minimum standards. Summary standard A B C D E Performance Consistently A Generally B or better, with the remainder generally C Generally C or better, with the remainder generally D Generally D or better Generally E

Note: Consideration will be given to the relative contribution of each instrument with respect to: subject matter sampled learning experiences reflected general objectives demonstrated fullest and latest information provided by the profile

Semester Results
The school will award a standard for each of the three criteria (Knowledge and procedures, Modelling and problem solving, Communication and justification), based on the principles of assessment. When teachers are determining a standard for each criterion, the extent to which the qualities of the work match the descriptors overall will strongly influence the standard awarded. The standards will be applied to the summative body of work selected. When standards have been determined in each of the three criteria, the table below will be used to determine the semester level of achievement. On completion of the course of study, the school will award each student an exit level of achievement from: VHA HA SA LA VLA Standard A in any two exit criteria and no less than a B in the remaining criterion Standard B in any two exit criteria and no less than a C in the remaining criterion Standard C in any two exit criteria, one of which must be the Knowledge and procedures criterion, and no less than a D in the remaining criterion Standard D in any two exit criteria, one of which must be the Knowledge and procedures criterion Does not meet the requirements for Limited Achievement
