Q: Why do we sometimes see reference to the 9600-Series IP Deskphone family as 96x1 or 96x0? A: The 96x1 terminology is used internally to Avaya and refer to the four models introduced in September 2010 (9608 IP Deskphone, 9611G IP Deskphone, 9621G IP Deskphone, 9641G IP Deskphone) and December 2010 (9601 SIP Deskphone). The 96x0 is also used internally to Avaya to refer to the earlier models introduced between 2007 and 2009. Externally, Avaya refers to all of these models are as members of the 9600-Series IP Deskphone family. The terms 96x1 or 96x0 are not to be used externally. Q: Is there a unique version of software that operates on the 9600 IP Deskphones for IP Office? A: The initial availability of H.323 6.0 was for Avaya Communication Manager only. On 24 February, we announced availability of the 9608/9621G/9641G IP Deskphone on the IP Office 6.1 Q1 2011 Maintenance Release (refer to IP Office Technical Bulletin No: 132). This uses a SMEC-specific software release based upon H.323 6.1. That software includes selected content from H.323 6.0 SP1/SP2/SP3. A follow-on release will be available with IP Office 7.0 which includes additional content from H.323 6.0 SP3. Q: When will the 9611G be supported on IP Office? A: Support for the 9611G on IP Office is targeted for Q4 FY11. Q: Which 96x1 model is best for Contact Center? A: A dual headset adapter for the 9611G, 9641G, which allows both the agent and supervisor/trainer to participate in a conversation, is orderable today. The availability of H.323 6.1 software in second half FY2011 adds additional support on all four models for specific contact center features such as the display of agent statistics and manual / automatic Agent Greeting. That software also adds the necessary support for a special CC faceplate on the 9641G which covers the handset cradle and permits default headset operation for the CC agent. While all four models can be used in a CC environment, the best suited would be the 9611G (for customers desiring buttons) or the 9641G (with a touch interface). Q: Do the 96x1 models have the ability to customize the faceplate? A: Custom faceplates are available for the 9621G and 9641G. The faceplates on the 9601/9608/9611G are not removable and therefore not customizable. Q: Where can I find information on the differences between the 9600 series IP Deskphone models? A: The Job Aids and Tools section for the 9600 Series IP Deskphones is on the Avaya Partner Portal at http://portal.avaya.com/ptlWeb/products/P0553/AllCollateral . That site contains a spreadsheet with detailed side-by-side comparisons of the predecessor models as well as the new models . Q: When ordering the 9608/9611G/9621G/9641G models are there any additional cables that I need to be ordering? A: Yes. These models do not include an Ethernet cable in the box. Therefore an Ethernet cable must be separately ordered or sourced. Also note that these models use the SPPOE-1A power supply.
