Objective Effect of fly ash and silica fume on compressive strength of concrete under different curing condition.

Experimental Program

In this cylinder (beams) all tested to investigate concrete compressive strength of concrete with different percentage of silica fume respectively. In addition to investigate the efficiency of curing condition concrete compressive strength and compare to normal concrete specimen.

Mix Proportions These type of mix proportions all chosen first one was concrete and fly ash. The (type II) is concrete and silica fume and third one was combination of PC, FA and SF. Portions All Show in Table :Table Mix No. 1 2 3 4 Total Specimen Type (I) 10/90(2) 20/80 (2) 25/75 (2) 35/65 (2) 8 Type (II) 10/90(2) 20/80 (2) 25/75(2) 35/65 (2) 8 Type (III) 10 and 10/80(2) 10 and 15/75(2) 15 and 20/65 (2) 30 and 15/55 (2) 8

Introduction Cement Material:(OPC) is used in all test specimen fly ash and silica fume all used as a replacement of cement content by different percentage. Aggregates: - 20 mm nominal maximum sizes is used as coarse aggregates and fine aggregates was the natural sand free impurities. Fly Ash:- fly ash is one of the residues generated in combustion and comprises the fine particle that rises with fuel gases. Ash which does not rise turned bottom ash in an industrial context fly ash usually refers to ash produced during combustion of coal in the recent time, the importance and use of fly ash in concrete has grown so much that, it has almost become a common ingredient in concrete particully making high strength and high performance concrete. The use of fly ash as concrete admixture not only extreme technique at advantage to the properties of concrete but also contribute the environmental pollution control. In india, we produce about 75 million tones of fly ash per year. These are two ways that the fly ash can be

used one way is to intergriend certain percentage of fly ash with cement clinker at the factory to produce portland. Pozzolona Cement (PPC) and cement way is to use the fly ash as on admixture at the time of making concrete at the site of work. The quality of fly ash is governed by IS 3812-Part-I 2003. The BIS specification limitation chemical requirement and physical requirement all given in table 5.14 and 5.15 (IS-3812-2003). The important characteristics of fly ash is special forms of particles this shapes of particles improve flowablity and reduce waste demand. ASTM C 618 Classification in two classes, class C and F. the chief difference between these classes is the amount of calcium, silica, aluminum and iron content in fly ash. Type of fly ash:Class F Fly Ash - The burning of harder older anthracite and bituminous coal typical produce class f fly ash. This ash is pozzolanic in nature and contain less than 20% lime (Cao).

Class C Fly Ash Fly ash normally produced by burning lignite at sub bituminous coal. These types of fly ash will hard and gain strength over time. Class C fly ash contain more than 20% lime (Cao). Alkali and sulphate are more in this fly ash. Silica Fume :- silica fume is also referred to as micro silica. It is a produced resulting from reduction of high purity qartz with coal in an electric arc furnace in the manufacturer of silica or ferrosilicon alloy. Silica fume rises an oxidised vapour. It cool condenses and collected in cloth bags. It is further processed to improve impurities and to controll particle size. It is extremely fine with particle size less than 1 micron and with an average diameter of about 0.1 micron about 100 times smaller than average cement particle. Concrete contain silica fume can have very high strength can be very durable. Silica fume is available from supplies of concrete and mixture and when specified is simply added during concrete production placing finishing silica fume consists of primarily of (non-crustilne) Silicon dioxide (Sio2)

The quality of silica fume is specified by ASTM C 1240 and AASHTO M 307 first testing of silica fume in portland cement based concrete was carried in 1952. Silica fume give high strength and low porosities. Specific gravity of silica fume is increase of 2.2 to 2.3 Silica fume F use in concrete available in form of wet of dry form. Silica fume in India :Silica fume has become one of necessary ingredient for making high strength and high performance concrete in India silica fume has been used very rarely nuclear power plants was one of the first to use silica fume
