Introduction
This case study aims to present the

following objectives:

Evaluate the present location, needs, and population demographics of Brgy. Magliman as a whole. Present all possible serving sites that would materialize the proposition of providing WIMAX services and would cover the entirety of the barangay.

Present a balanced perspective between the need for WIMAX services of Brgy. Magliman and the possible benefits that would incur upon realization of the latter.
Provide recommendations.

Occupation

Labor Force (15-60 y/o) comprises 60.32% of the total population. The actual employment data provided by the barangay census is 1, 097 or 53.69% of the labour force. Twenty seven percent (27%) of these are full time students. 34.54% are housewives and pensioners. The remaining 11.18% have not identified any employment information. For those employed, 26.67% are locally employed, 43.26% are skilled workers, 11.92% are professionals, 6.78% are employed abroad, 10.91% are entrepreneurs and those on the agriculture makes up the remaining 0.37%.

Education

More than fifty one percent (51.11%) of the total population is currently enrolled in basic education. Comparing this with the school-age population (516 y/o) of 24.12% would show a 24.99% difference which could account for elementary and high school undergraduates and graduates who were not able to enter any tertiary education or technical vocation course. Those who are currently pursuing higher education makes up 13.22% and about 16.75% were able to finish tertiary education. Small proportion of 1.26% or 43 individuals were not able to attend school at all.

Housing

The housing condition of the barangay comprises 43.7% of household owned housing units, 6.46% are renting while 9.61% are classified as informal settlers. Majority of housing units or 88.6% are made up of concrete materials. 0.6% are made up of wooden materials, 5.71% are mixed-type, and 1.95% or about 13 units are made of shanties structure.

Why put up WIMAX?

Fixed BRO Wireless is not available within the area especially the central part of the barangay.

Population within the area is growing and the demand for more services such as internet services also do increase. Many subdivisions are being built within the barangay which poses probable market for different network services.

Setbacks

Considering the coverage of WIMAX to be at 1 km aerial radius, NONE of the three sites closest to the barangay can cover its entirety.

These sites are namely San Isidro, Pampanga, Sto. Nino Dolores, and San Fernando 2-Dolores

Consider: San Isidro Pampanga

More than 3 kms. from the central barangay and 2 kms. from its end. (San Isidro has WIMAX services)

Consider: Sto. Nino Dolores

More than 1 km from the central part of the barangay. Also consider that Sto. Nino Dolores is a building site.

Consider: San Fernando 2 Dolores

San Fernando 2 Dolores is almost 2 kms away. This site has WIMAX but has not yet been on-aired due to frequency interference issues.

Recommendations

If the demand for internet and other services exceeds the cost of putting-up another cell site, then a site roll-out that would cover the barangay would be necessary to seize this growing market.

Recommendations

Else, the company, in order to protect its assets and investments from going to waste due to rash decisions, should wait strategically until a certain level of demand/need is felt. The promotion of other services such as SmartBRO mobile broadband plug-its and services may also be an alternative.
