I numeri ordinali si formano aggiungendo il suffisso –th ai numeri cardinali, ma


facendo attenzione a:
the first, the second, the third, e composti the twenty-first, the
twenty-second, the twenty-third, the thirty-first ecc.
five  fifth
twelve twelfth
twenty e tutte le decine che terminano in –y  twentieth
eight eighth
nine  ninth

Nei numeri composti solo l’ultima cifra diventa ordinale.


Quando scriviamo il nome di un re o una regina il numero ordinale viene
espresso con numeri romani, nella lettura faremo precedere il numero
ordinale dall’articolo:
Richard II - Richard the Second
Edward VII - Edward the Seventh
Henry VIII - Henry the Eighth

In inglese la data utilizza il numero ordinale e può essere espressa in due
modi:
8th October, 2008 (si legge the eighth of October two thousand and eight).
October 8th 2008 (si legge October the eighth two thousand and eight).

Fractions: quando formate le frazioni, ricordate che il primo numero è un cardinale


e il secondo è un ordinale:

1/8 one/ eighth; 1/3 one/ third ;


but
½ one/ half; ¾ three/quarters.
