2 Metasys Integrator—Metasys Integrator Notifier AFP-200 Fire Panel Application
Introduction

This document explains the Metasys Integrator Notifier AFP-200 Fire

Alarm Panel application. Use this document with the Metasys Integrator
technical bulletins that provide information on installing and
commissioning the Metasys Integrator unit. For information on the
AFP-200 Fire Panel, see the Notifier documentation. Please note that this
application will also work with the Johnson Controls IFC-200 Fire Panel.
Note: If you are using a Universal Packaging Module (UPM), you must
install the Metasys Integrator 300 Series in a two high enclosure
(EN-EWC25-0) rather than a one high enclosure (EN-EWC13-0)
as shown in the figures in this application note.

Application The Metasys Integrator unit allows the Notifier AFP-200 Fire Alarm Panel
Details to communicate with the Metasys and Metasys Companion Networks.
Once a Notifier AFP-200 Fire Panel is connected to a Metasys or
Companion Network via the Metasys Integrator unit, its data is available
to the full complement of Metasys Building Automation System (BAS)
features, including Change-of-State (COS) monitoring, secondary
reporting, alarm and trouble notification, trend, and totalization.
Each Metasys Integrator vendor port can connect to one AFP-200 Fire
Panel. The AFP-200 Fire Panel has a single Signaling Line Circuit (SLC)
that supports up to 99 detectors and 99 modules, plus four Notification
Appliance Circuits (NACs) designated “Bell Circuits” on the panel.
When the AFP-200 Fire Panel is reset, all Binary Input (BI) points are
reset to an open or 0 value and any trouble status is cleared.

! CAUTION: The Metasys Integrator unit is not Underwriters

Laboratories (UL) 864 Listed as a fire alarm control
unit. It is designed to provide only secondary ancillary
monitoring, while the AFP-200 Fire Control Panel
provides UL 864 Listed notification and control
functions.

Design When integrating the AFP-200 Fire Panel, consider the following:
Considerations • Make sure that the AFP-200 Fire Panel is set up and running properly
with Version 2.4 firmware before integrating with a Metasys or
Companion system. This includes configuring the
AFP-200 Fire Panel’s RS-232 printer port in remote terminal mode.
(The Notifier representative is responsible for the configuration and
operation of Notifier equipment.)
• The Metasys Integrator unit is not UL 864 Listed as a fire alarm
control unit. It is designed to provide secondary ancillary monitoring
only, while the AFP-200 Fire Panel provides notification and control
functions.
• When the AFP-200 Fire Panel is reset, all BI points are set to open
state and the trouble status is reset.
• The AFP-200 Fire Panel must be reset to clear alarms.
• RS-232 cable distance between the Metasys Integrator unit and the
AFP-200 Fire Panel cannot exceed 50 feet.
• The trouble status is cleared when a device reports a normal or off
state.

6 Metasys Integrator—Metasys Integrator Notifier AFP-200 Fire Panel Application

• Programming at the AFP-200 Fire Panel will cause the Notifier
AFP-200 Fire Panel to go offline. Also, continuous pressing of the
panel keys (e.g., Ack/Step) may cause the AFP-200 Fire Panel to go
offline at the Metasys Integrator unit.
• The AFP-200 Fire Panel, when used alone without the Metasys
Integrator unit, has a feature that scrolls through trouble messages
when multiple messages exist on the system. This feature is not
present when the Metasys Integrator unit is connected to the
AFP-200 Fire Panel. If multiple messages exist on the system, the
Ack/Step key must be pressed to view each individual message.

! WARNING: Some change-of-state messages may be missed

while running the Diagnostic Analyzer on the
Metasys Integrator commissioning PC. Do not run
the Metasys Integrator Diagnostic Analyzer after
commissioning is complete. Disconnect the
Metasys Integrator unit from the AFP-200 printer
port while programming the Fire Panel, then reset
the AFP-200 panel after reconnecting the
Metasys Integrator unit.
