NEW HORIZONS FOR WELDING AND CUTTING

Air Liquide Welding is an international group with a brand portfolio optimised locally to the needs of all types of customers. Whatever the requirements of industrial or semi-professional customers, or the general public, the multi-branding policy of the Air Liquide Welding Group enables it to respond either directly or through dedicated distribution networks in all the countries in which it operates. Each of Air Liquide Weldings brands is planned to become the leader in its given field. From 2006 onwards in the UK and Ireland, the Air Liquide Welding Group will serve its industrial customer base using the internationally recognized OERLIKON brand for welding consumables, welding equipment, and automation. This will be supported by the Weldline range of accessories. The OERLIKON product range will be expanded over 2006 to cover all the needs of the industrial market and will include innovative and high technology products specifically designed for particular market segments and customers. The SAF brand for the Air Liquide Welding Group, which has a historic position in the UK market, will be progressively withdrawn over the corresponding period. Key SAF products for the UK and Irish markets will be replaced by equivalent Oerlikon branded products and these are included in the new OERLIKON product range. This interim product brochure summarises the range of OERLIKON consumables to be marketed in the UK and Ireland going forward. Because of the changes described above, this range contains a number of completely new products for this market, which replace existing SAF products. In addition, there are also a number of re-named existing products reflecting the moves in the Air Liquide Welding Group towards a standardised global product offering. The brochure is designed to show the former 2005 product range alongside the future product portfolio, highlighting any name changes or product additions. The exact timing of the different range changes over the course of 2006 and beyond will be advised separately, as indicated in the brochure. The products contained in the future national product ranges for the UK and Ireland are only part of the full international range of OERLIKON brand consumables available from the Air Liquide Welding Group. For any requirements not covered in this brochure, or for further details on the new product range, please contact your local sales engineer or call +44 (0) 1327 705511.

Butt welds
EN 287* Downhand position: The parts are in a horizontal plane and the filler metal is deposited from above. Pipe in rotation; the axis of the pipe is horizontal The pipe is made to turn during the welding, while the filler metal is deposited in the area most convenient for the welder or the operator Horizontal vertical position: The parts are in the vertical plane and the axis of the weld is horizontal. The axis of the pipe is vertical The welding is carried out on a horizontal plane. The welding is said to be in horizontal fillet.

Symbols for Welding Positions on Sheet Metal

Fillet welds
EN 287* PA Fillet (1 F) Fillet welding. The parts are bent kind the weld is in a horizontal plane. The axis of the weld is vertical.

PB Horizontal Fillet (2 F)

Horizontal fillet welding. One part is horizontal and the other vertical. The weld between the two parts is performed in a horizontal plane.

Stationary pipe: The pipes axis is at 45 The weld is operated from the bottom toward the top in a 45 plane in relation to the vertical. The welding is said to be in an inclined up position. Vertical position: plates are in a vertical plane, as is the axis of the weld. Vertical up position. The metal is deposited from bottom to top. Stationary pipe The axis of the pipe is horizontal. The weld is carried out from the bottom toward the top on a vertical plane. The weld is positional positional Vertical position: plates are vertical, as is the axis of the weld. Vertical down position. The metal is deposited from top to bottom. Stationary pipe The axis of the pipe is horizontal. The weld is carried out from the top toward the bottom on a vertical plane. The welding is said to be positional

PF Vertical up (3 F 1)

Vertical fillet welding. The parts are vertical, as is the axis of the weld. Vertical up position. The metal is deposited from bottom to top.

PG Vertical Down (3 F 2)

Vertical fillet welding. The parts are vertical, as is the axis of the weld. Vertical down position. The metal is deposited from top to bottom.

PD Overhead Fillet (4 F)

Overhead position: the plates are in a horizontal plane. The filler metal is deposited from below.

Overhead welding. One part is horizontal and the other vertical. The weld is deposited from below in a horizontal plane.
