Education

Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever. These were the words of Mahatama Gandhi. This line tells us the importance of education in ones life. Today I will be talking about the need to fight illiteracy and educate everyone. Education is the base on which one can build a bright future. If someone isnt educated, what can we expect from a person like that? This problem is majorly faced in our own country, India. According to the CIA World Factbook, almost 75% of the world's 775 million illiterate adults are concentrated in ten countries and India is first on the list. These are rough statistics but they are true. Our country has all the resources that a country requires to progress but the only thing which country lacks and desperately needs is Literacy. One major obstacle that prevents one from obtaining good education is the income of ones family. This income either cannot afford to admit one to a school or it can force on to work for the survival of ones family. Another factor that prevents one from studying in a suitable educational institute is the remoteness of certain areas, which restricts children to get to suitable schools. Also, in some places in the world, students are not given admission because of their ethnicity, use of a different dialect or a physical disability. Lack of education or illiteracy then gives rise to social evils like superstitions and meaningless rituals . So many people die everyday because of minor illnesses that can be treated easily as they cannot get proper medication and treatment for their illnesses because they do not know anything about how it can be treated. If you are illiterate, people can easily cheat you. They can charge you higher, commit frauds with you and they can do many more things. A child born to a mother who can read is more likely to survive past the age of 5. An educated person can more effectively contribute to his country than an illiterate person. How much does it cost to provide one basic primary and secondary education? To teach one basic reading and writing skills, To teach one basic manners, To teach one basic language? The first step for

our country to progress, develop and grow will be to fight this Illiteracy in our society. There are so many ways in which this goal can be achieved. So let us swear an oath today, to promote the importance, significance and usefulness of education and hope for a day, when no person walking on the streets of our country will be uneducated; Let us swear an oath today, to help educate illiterate people in every possible way we can; Let us swear an oath today to work towards the development of a country where every man can read and write to contribute to his country; Let us swear an oath today to make this country a beautiful place full of educated people.

Thank You.
