Pila notes that 60s-inspired acrylic furnishings can be timeless when designed into a classic silhouette, with the pureness of the acrylics clearness creating a striking effect. Washington, DC designer Darlene Molnar predicts that velvet sofas will be a top trend in 2014, with jewel colors or gray bringing a soft elegance to rooms after years of sharp clean lines. And furniture designer Clint Parker notes that Earth-friendly, sustainable eco-furniture is gaining steam, with new composites and fabrics such as hemp and sorghum making the concept more accessible. Anything goes in the world of accessories. Pila notes an African inuence in lamps made of horn and Kuba cloths fashioned into pillows, rugs and blankets, while Ian Kennedy of Ruby + George touts Native Americaninspired artwork, rugs and antlers passed down from generation to generation. Fake and faux are far apart. Fake is meant to deceive, but faux is intended as a tribute or a toast to something great or beautiful. Faux wood tile is one of the hottest trends in home remodeling and home decorating. Paying tribute to beautiful hardwood ooring, faux wood tile is a ceramic tile that combines the rich, textured nishes and warmth of real wood with the durability, functionality and design exibility of tile. And, it costs a fraction of what real hardwood ooring costs. The strong trend toward faux wood tile is due to its contemporary, sophisticated look and durability, says Kirsty Froelich, design director with The Tile Shop, the nations leading retailer of high quality, premium manufactured and natural stone tiles from all over the world.
