The Acti$ity of the mud

The acti$ity of the mud is calculated &y usin the relati$e humidity readin off the hy rometer which is in the la&.

The standards used on the attached spreadsheet are for a saturated solution of Calcium Chloride and 'odium Chloride.

All you &asically do is place the pro&e in the flea%er &ea%er with a hole in the top for the pro&e. *ea$e it there for 30 mins until the humidity readin sta&ili-es.

<o this for the Calcium Chloride sat solution9 the 'odium Chloride 'at solution9 a mud sample and then a washed sample of shale.

Ta%e the readin s and place it on the attached e(cel sheet and it would wor% out the acti$ity.

The &asis of this test is that we dont want water to mo$e from the mud to the formation. The acti$ity of the mud is normally lower than that of the shale.

These two fi ures9 acti$ity of the shale and mud are supposed to &e the same &ut in the field they are not. =ust ma%e sure that they are not far apart9 then you ha$e water mo$ement.

+ will send you some more data today on this test.

This test is done at the end of the ?.5 inch inter$al and it shows how clean the mud is9 normally here the lower completions 2screens4 are run in mud.

There is a ) ua e %it in the la& ...a hu e cylinder and it loo%s li%e a filter press for @MA.

The production screen is screwed into the holder9 careful to include the 0 rin and then placed at one end of the cylinder. 0n the other end the @MA filter press co$er is placed. Mud is placed in the cylinder to one inch from the top.

The &asis of this test is to use 10 psi to et 350 mls throu h the test screen in less that 10 seconds.

The press is then &ro%en down and the screen would ha$e to ha$e less than 5% co$era e.....wash the screen carefully in some clean &ase oil9 not to rou h.

The company man usually o&ser$es these tests and thet ha$e to &e recorded on @ell $iew.

+T' B7CD 0A=7CT+B7 so it will ta%e a while to %now a pass from a fail in terms of 5 % screen co$era e.
